I got it and reshafted with a grafalloy blue. I liked it so so: big head difficult too square for me even with the weight adjustment and the greatest shaft ever. I prefer the taylor 54oxd and the Titleist 983. Customer Service no clue Similar Products Used: most |

Love this driver. I had previously played 4-5 rounds with this club and loved it. However, I wanted to try out some other models that might have been less expensive. I tried out 10+ drivers with a launch monitor and no doubt the r7 was the best for me. After testing the stock and the speeder stiff shafts back to back, I went with the stock for the difference in torque. I recommend everyone trying out numerous models, but if this club is right for you, it is well worth the money. Last year I was shooting in the 70s every 2 or 3 rounds, and this year I haven't broken 80 once, mainly because I've been all over the place off the tee. I have a good feeling that this club will help give me some confidence on the tee and get me back in the 70s. |

Bought the r7 Quad (9.5 Stiff Flex), then purchased the TP Weight Kit. Took some time to get the weight set up correctly, but it was worth every second. Absolutely the most forgiving driver I have ever hit. Misses are predictable, I have finally found a driver that I trust on every swing. As advertised you can easily dial trajectory up&down. Costs alot, but worth it. Great Driver !!!! After my Titliest 975 JVS non-conforming face split on the range I needed a new driver and tested the 983K/983E, Nike Ignite, Cobra SZ440, Srixon XXIO Hot, Mizuno MP-001 until I decided on the R7 with a 9.5 degree loft. For me this wasn’t the longest but it was incredibly straight with a brilliantly penetrating ball flight. I would suggest golfers off 12 or better handicap will get the most out of this club as it offers a really solid strike (doesn’t ping like the Cobra) and stays well on line from just off centre hits (perhaps not as forgiving as a Callaway though). The launch control weighting system is fun to try on the range and works fantastically but I ,and I suspect most users, prefer a neutral setting on the course. I think this club will genuinely improve my game and if you do demo it don’t dismiss it on the first few shots as it may take some getting used to, initially I felt the club face looked a little closed, now it looks perfect. This driver is an engineering masterpiece and I have tried all the top drivers over 3 years. I have always suffered from inconsistent driving previous clubs TM-XR03/580 having a tendency to a strong fade and occasional slice being exacerbated by a very fast swing speed. The result was inconsistency and reduced distance 250-275yds with the occasional 325yder BUT when I got this amazingly in its strongest draw setting, I started hitting it straight consistently and drawing the ball and the fades stayed out of trouble. I have hit a number of drives just short of 400 yds ! and ended up initially in a few arguments by hitting balls onto par 4 greens when people were still putting ( I had too strong a hit urge on the tee)I have calmed down now but cant praise this enough as its great to hit wedges into greens like TV Pros ELS, VJ. Please also note I reshafted it with a Grafalalloy Blue stiff , pured, 46in shaft. The downside is my mid/short iron play is suffering a bit and I had to get additional heavier weights from US Ebay dealers as Taylor Made UK were very unhelpful - insisting that I buy the TP version - crazy - had all my lowest rounds of the year with this club and expect to get down to 4/5HC before end of year. It is expensive but it does what it claims and should suit better players best. I am a 10 Handicap. My driver swing speeds vary from 92 MPH to 96 MPH so I do not hit the ball very far. I have played MANY drivers over the last 10 years. They include most of the Callaway products (not the Fusion) and now many of the Taylor Made Drivers (most recently the 580 XD). I am a Callaway Golf fan but I must confess that Taylor Made makes a great product. I just purchased the R7 because I liked the feel of the club on the range and I had a bunch of gift certificates at the store. I purchased the club with 9.5 degrees of loft and a regular flex shaft. My ball flight is usually high and draws slightly so I set the R7 for low and straight. I have not hit the driver (580 XD) well over the last 3 weeks so my comments are relative to that experience. Initial Reaction from Round 1 on Sunday September 12, 2004 • I hit 6 of 11 fairways (above my average) • 5 of the 11 drives were above my average drive (240 range) • 4 of the 11 drives were between 225 and 235 • 3 of the 11 drives were awful (bad swing) • I love the feel and sound of the driver at impact—the ball does explode off the club face (when I hit the clubface) • The club is less forgiving then the 580 XD but I seem to hit it more consistently on the screws • The reviewers who tell you they hit it 30 yard further must be coming from a persimmon drive because that is IMPOSSIBLE • Finally, the R7 seems to be a very good club and I would recommend it if you want to plop down $500 for a driver. If not there are a lot of great drivers on the market that will perform fine at a far cheaper price. Customer Service I have never called Taylor Made for assistance. I demo'd this driver twice for 18 hole rounds. When you hit this driver in the sweetspot, it really kills the ball. I get more distance with the R7 but only when it's hit perfectly. Also, I found that it decreased the amount of slice in my drives. Some shots which normally would have gone far off to the right stayed straight for some odd reason. The downside to this driver is that its really expensive, heavier then most other drivers and comes with a bad stock grip(slippery). I would reccomend something like the Titleist 983K over this....better bang for your buck with just as good results. I bought the club to replace my Titleist 975. I generally fade the ball and preferred to hit the ball straight. I played 6 round using the various settings and found a setting that produces the straight drive I was looking for. I noticed an increase of 10 to 15 yards on my driving distance. I contribute the additional distance that I do not lose any distance with the ball traveling left to right. I am very pleased with the driver. I can add this driver to my TaylorMade Firesole 12 degree driver which I use for my fairway wood. Okay, I tried this thing and I like it. This thing rocks, but is this better than TM580XD w/ lead tapes? I am not sure. One thing I found that it is considerably heavier than TM580XD. This is definitely minus for me. In the simulator, my balls were shorter by 5-10 yards due to the weight isssues. Lightness of 580 helps in this regards. I can whip it, but I think the weight system may keep the ball straighter w/ R7, which could not be tested satisfactorily with simulator. How is this different, however, than 580 with lead tapes? Given that 580 has bigger head and lighter, I am not sure R7 is great magic stick that everyone is trying to make it to be. One thing out this experience was that I started to mess with tapes on my 580XD. I have to say it's bit messy, but I get to keep my driver lighter and my wallet heavier. I am going to keep overall rating at 5, but I would like to have given 4.5 Customer Service Waiting to find out how TM will do with my flattened TM200 3 wood head. <- over played Similar Products Used: TM540XD, Cobra SZ, etc... |
