Not overly impressed. Changed from an ERC 2 as thats on the illegals list. Find that the G5 comes up 20-30 yards shorter, doesn't have that lovely 'Ping' sound and isn't particularly forgiving. I find it hard to shape the ball with this club, and even though its a 9 degree loft, it still launches it very high with little roll.

To start off, Ping has had a reputation of being a company of great quality. I, however, just started to believe this after I used this club. The one thing that stands out to me is the fact that the clubface gives you immediate feedback of where and how you've hit the ball. If you hit it dead on, if feels like butter and has a confidence boosting sound. If you hit slightly off the heel or toe, it gives you a clunky sound, but is still quite forgiving. Ping is always talking about how they are gaining a reputation for distance and believe me, they have me convinced. Today, I hit my longest drive: 292 yards and I'm a scrawny 5'10, 130lb sixteen year old. Another thing I love about this club is the workability. I found that it is much easier to draw and fade the ball.

The only, and the one and only thing that I was uncomfortable with is the fact that the clubface is slightly closed at address. I quickly got over it and learned to work with it to my advantage. Like I said, it is easy to draw or fade the ball and I feel that this contributes to this fact.

The club is also crazy expensive, but that thought quickly disappears when you begin to see the strokes disappear.

For the "record," at the beginning of this year, I considered myself a 16 maybe fifteen handicap, now, I'm consistently hitting 80 - 83.

I have the G5 5 wood and feel the same about it, but with much more workability.

This club is not super long but long enough. What makes it brillant is its accuracy. It is the straightest driver I have ever used. I recently upgraded from my TiSi Tec driver which is still a very good club. With the old club I was averaging about 230 metres with a 200 metre carry. I have gained a few metres in distance - up to about 10m - but the accuracy is unbelievable and I am finding myself on the fairway about 90 per cent of the time and that is making a huge difference to my game. Just point and shoot. I find it very easy to find the sweet spot and shape shots as well.

I've been hitting a Cleveland Launcher 330 for a few years now. I tend to hit either fades or slices, and my good drives are straight. I finally decided to try something else after struggling with it. I hit the Calloway Fusion, Taylor Made R5, Calloway 454, Nike , Titleist D2, and the Ping G5. I noticed right away that the Ping felt very solid. The Taylor Made R7 flet good also, but there was just something that felt right about the Ping. Hit it in the cage, bought it and next day took it out to play. My first 3 or 4 drives were not anything spectacular. But immediatley you notice that the miss hits are not nearly as bad as my old club. Instead of losing ball OB, I was barely out of the fairway. After that I started really turning the club loose and WOW, it really performss. I hit 2 drives around 300 and several around 270. I even hit a ball in the water on a long par 4 that I've never been able reach. It a great club. I bought the 9 degree with AV 65 shaft. I will say that the prolauch 65 shaft felt better to me in the cage, but they only had 10.5 degree with that club (limited selection due to me being a lefty). For me the most important thing is that this club is very, very forgiving.

Starting last year I tried numerous brands of drivers with little sucess. Bought the G5 with the regular shaft this spring and my drives returned to the fairway and were at least 10 yards longer. Very forgiving club.

I'm 73 years old and play to a 16 handicap. I've been using my 3 wood off the tee because I could not control the driver. I would hit it high and right. I purchased the Ping G5 9* offset driver with a Graffoloy 65 regular shaft. I'm hitting the ball 230-250 yards and straight. I found that if you tee the ball low and swing slow you'll get the best results. Bought it on eBay. Make sure the seller provides you with the serial number. If he won't it is not authentic. Best driver I ever owned!

It is clear that not every club is for every Golfer. So it is not any surprise that not every one likes this club.
I have played a miriad of drivers over the years and this club rates up there with the best.
It is not the longest but is is the most consistent and the most forgiving. I do hit more fairways and as my old coach said to me "it is easier to hit a 7 iron from the fairway than a 9 iron from the rough"
I have the stiff Aldila green shaft NV65 and have found that I can shape my shots left to right or right to left at will.
You will not win the long drive comp with this club but you will feel confident at the tee.

After demoing the club at the range, I decided to pick one up on ebay. I am a huge fan of ping irons, but have never had success with the drivers. But, I had a decent day at the range, so I thought Ping did it right with the G5. After 2 miserable weeks of not being able to find the fairway, I had to trade it in. I mean, I am not a scratch golfer, but I do hit in the 80's. I think I hit perhaps 10 to 15% of the fairways in a 2-3 week stint. VERY frustrating. I could not reign in this club for the life of me. I am sure some people love it, but it just goes to show you that WHAT IS RIGHT FOR ONE PERSON, IS DEFINITELY NOT RIGHT FOR THE NEXT PERSON. THIS CLUB WAS BY FAR THE WORST DRIVER I HAVE EVER ATTEMPTED TO USE. I COULD NOT GET CONTROL OF IT.

I have now switched to the R7 460 with a draw biased weighting system and have fell completely in love with it! I have owned the R580xd and the R5 dual, but didn't care for the overall feel of them. But with the new Re*ax shaft and the MWT, WOW. No excuses now. I hit ALL the fairways on the back nine of my last round of golf. It was a tight course too!

Remember, a bad swing is a bad swing, but let technology help out!

For the last year I've used a G5 TFC100D stiff, 10.5*. Had very good results, especially compared to the Taylormade R580XD that I had used for several years before going to the G5. Lately I've felt that I could still get more distance with something else, so I recently got fitted for a new driver. I'm now using a G5 9 degree with a Graffalloy Pro Launch 65S. Bottom line; talk about finding TOBU!! I'm averaging 220 to 230 carry and 250 to 260 total yardage on my drives, an increase of about 8 to 10 percent total ( there are not that many 300 yard hitters out there despite what you may read on the reviews ). The Pro Launch combined with the 9 degree G5 is a fantastic combination, at least for me. This shaft is a bit stiffer than the TFC100D and gives me the penetrating ball flight I've been lacking lately. If you're playing a 10.5 and losing some distance due to a "too high" ball flight this may be the combination for you. I still use the TFC100D stiff in my fairway woods but highly recommend the Pro Launch if you're in the market for a new engine for your driver.
