8.5 Ping G2 w/aldila NV stiff
I have always been a player that corrects the problem in his swing rather than buying new equipment. The Ping G2, however, gave me no choice but to upgrade. Although i would rather look down at a smaller head (previous 330, now 460), it is a small price to pay for the longer, straighter drives i now hit. Although accuracy wasn't my problem, i decided that i need more roll if i was goin to keep up with the big hitters, so i decide to get a driver with less loft so that it would have a better launch angle. The Ping G2 does a very good job of keeping the ball at a good trajectory so you get ortimal carry and roll. It seems to me that this driver is not well like by less skilled golfers, but loved by low handicappers. If your looking for a solid driver that will get you more distance, this is it. Customer Service Peutz golf, very good, let me hit any driver i wanted for as many balls as i needed. Similar Products Used: Taylormade R7, Mizuno Mp001, Titleist 983k, cleveland launcher 460 |

I usually hit the ball pretty far but struggle with accuracy. I was looking to move up from my current Cobra 350 to some new technology that might be a little more forgiving. I tried the Ping G2 for about 2 weeks and hit about 200 balls on the range with it. Not the driver for me. As others have commented, I had trouble figuring out how to hit it straight. It was easy to make contact with the large face, but the actual sweet spot seemed small. For those who make centerface contact all the time, this might be a good driver but not for people like me who tend to hit over a wider part of the face. I am now demoing a Cobra 440 SZ and so far am very impressed. It seems to have a huge sweet spot and is easy to hit long and straight. Once I have more experience with it, I will write a review. I saw lots of good reviews for this club. I was keen to try it. However, it was not the club for me. Keeping it straight was a problem. Distance was nothing special. I tried the Mizuno MP001 as well and preferred that. Wilson was also better. However, Cobra SZ440 is the best driver I have come across. I have not bought one because I am looking for a club that will remain legal. The real point I want to make is that you should not just rely on reviews. Do not buy a club without trying it first. I really liked my 983K but was hanging around a launch monitor and tried out the G2. Both clubs had Aldila NV 65 stiff. Swing speed around 100-110 depending upon how well I'm swinging. I had better dispersion pattern with G2 and easier time drawing the ball and better distance on fades. Bad swings were a good deal better. I can still snap hook both clubs with a really bad swing. On course I've been extremely happy with G2. Played around 10 rounds now and longer (maybe 10 yards on most shots and 15-20 on fades) than 983K and spending more time in fairway. I do miss the feel and feedback of the 983K but those characteristics on the GS aren't bad and better than most large headed drivers I've tried. On the launch monitor, the R7, R5, Cleveland models weren't close to the reliability and workability of the G2. I still wish I was a more consistent swinger but the Ping is a great club - easily the best driver I've found. And the price is pretty darn good. To think I had a bias against Ping equipment. I'm quickly losing that bias, but I'm looking for a replacement head cover because the Ping is pretty tacky. Customer Service No experience. Bought an 8.5* on ebay with a ProLaunch X flex. My swing speed is around 105 and would be a smooth tempo. Switched to Fujikura Tour Platform 26.3 by shimming the .335 tip out to .350. Very nice combo. The club launches high, even with 8.5. The head is very solid on hits near toe. Stays very stable. Set up is square. The transparent moon on the crown is a nice feature. This Fujikura shaft is designed for high launch and reduced spin; it delivers. I used to play a 983K 8.5 ProLite and thought that was long. This is longer and the head is much more forgiving. The sound is very nice; not too tiny. For the money you can beat it. Customer Service Ping is known for excellent customer service. Similar Products Used: None |

Ping G2 Driver
Ever since I was lucky enough to be invited to play Loch Lomond GC in Scotland I have been looking for a new driver. The issue was the carry distance from my Callaway GBBII (Stock Pro Series Shaft Stiff) on a 7100 yard course that was wet (i.e. no run), I really struggled with distance. So the question I asked was: "What Driver can I purchase that's legal but gives me more carry". The answer was the Ping G2. I tried several other drivers along the way: Yonex PowerBrid (long but wild) and the Titleist 983K (longish, great feel but unforgiving) but I eventually fell for the Ping G2 Demo club from my club pro (so much so that I bought the club after using it for a couple of rounds). Its a 10 degree Ping Tec 100D Stiff shaft. I agonised about the shaft for a week or so as they've come to have a bad reputation thanks to Callaway, do I need X-Stiff etc. But this is a Ping club and a Ping shaft, they don't put their name against a product if its sub standard and besides I was carrying the ball 20 to 30 yards further (280 to 290 yards instead of 260 with the GBBII). Its trajectory was some 20 feet higher as well. In summary, don't discount the Ping shaft its very good and suited my swing characteristics (110 mph with driver, slow tempo, 6.0 average torque). Try the club on a course before you buy, don't rely too much on the science of launch angle etc - only when used on the course in anger will the club tell you if its going to put you in the position to improve your scores. Great trajectory and carry, very forgiving looks great (cresent moon alinement is great) and is cheap to buy. Best Driver on the market right now. However it has the worst head cover - no protection for the shaft which is a bit silly. Customer Service No Experiance Similar Products Used: Yonex PowerBrid, Great Big Bertha II, Titleist 983K |

In the past 12 months I have gone through a GGB11, Taylormade XR-05, 580xd and Titleist 983K and never found any consistiency. I was very sceptical about buying a Ping club, they have always been quirky and never held any value. However, this club is superb. I have only played one round with it and missed 2 fairways (my fault for having a wild slash at it!). This club is very forgiving, straight and consisiently long. If you hit the ball high make sure you go for a lower loft. Mine is 8.5 degree, grafalloy blue stiff and it still hits the ball high due to high launch angle characteristics of the club If like me you are constantly changing, never completely happy or always looking for something more, swallow your pride and give this club a go. It really is excellent One negative point is the head cover which provides no shaft protection. Ping plase take note Customer Service No experience of Ping customer service, but please take note of comment on the terrible head cover........ Similar Products Used: GBB11, XR-05, 580XD, 983K |

This is a review for the older guys out there. My 2 sons tell me that after going above my early 50's I began to lose around 5 yards a year off the tee. My Ping G2 driver has the Aldila NV65 reg shaft and the combination is perfect for my mid to high 90 swing speed. Keeping in mind what my son's have said I can hounestly say this club has made me 4 years younger, distance wise. I still play with a quality 3 piece golf ball so I suppose there would be an even greater distance increase if you were using a 2 piece ball. The feeling off the club face is really sweet and soft, my ball flight has gone from mid to high, the sweet spot is huge, and the cosmetics are great. So what I am saying to the older guys, is go get yourself 4 years younger. This is a quality golf club and is sold at a very reasonable price. I huge thanks to Ping, from me. Customer Service Ping have always provided a customer service that is second to none. Similar Products Used: Titleist 983K, Launcher 400, Adams 363 GT |

A bargain for the price! Longer and more solid than my previous 983K and Taylor R7. I went to a 10 deg because of the NV shaft high kick. I found a lower trajectory that I expected with excellent distance (280 t0 310) about 25 yards longer than my Titleist witht he same shaft the R7 is 10 to 20 yards shorter using a Fujikura 757. I never liked Ping drivers because the odd looking hosel, I like this one, especially because I can hit it from the fairway to about 270 with a little fade. I like the reduced offset, it is just right for me. People that tend to fade or slice MUST get the factory shaft. Customer Service My shaft cracked just above the hosel, after 6 weeks (I think it was hit in the trunk of my car) I called Roger Dunn and replaced it with no questions!I love it! I have been using the 10 degree with the PING stock regular shaft. I am getting 25 to 30 yards more than my Bang-o-matic when hit correctly. The ball flight for me is a tight power fade, but very controllable. I have shot 5 to 7 strokes less per round which is amazing in the colder New England climate this time of year. The price is 100 to 200 hundred dollars less than most other Drivers, and the performsnce is super. Worth at least a demo. Customer Service Excellent, and a great web site.
