Nike SasQuatch Sumo 460 Drivers

Nike SasQuatch Sumo 460 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

Having won the Golf Digest Editor's Choice for drivers in 2006, it was no doubt a challenge to improve on the original all titanium SasQuatch driver. What made the original great, makes the new SasQuatch Sumo even better - a new NIKE PowerBow geometry results in a higher MOI of 4950g cm2 vs. 4650g cm2. Therefore, SasQuatch Sumo delivers even more distance and forgiveness.

I play off a 10 handicap and forever my strengths have been short irons and wedge play. I have struggled for a long time off the tee b/c I have a tendency to swing too hard. With the Nike Sumo 460 I now have a club that I can take a easy, smooth swing at and have the confidence that the ball will fly high and long. I can't believe how high the ball flies, it is like it won't come down. I had read all the hype about these high MOI drivers and thought they would be relatively the same as usual. It is more difficult to work the ball in either direction as the head is gigantic, and the sound isn't great. But I say who cares as long as the club is extremely forgiving and long off the tee. Here is to lowering my handicap a couple of strokes this summer.

What an amazing club! Just bought mine slightly used from Play-it-again-sports in Northbrook, IL for $150. The best bargain I have ever found. The club came with the Proforce V2 shaft which is great.

Being a fairly new golfer (2 years), I had the greatest difficulty with both distance and direction. This club fixed both problems. I drove over to the driving range after purchase and hit about a 100 balls. I consistantly hit the ball between 240-270 yards without trying to kill the ball. Out of the 100 balls, about 15 were terrible shots which is fantastic for me. Before I would hit 1 of 3 bad.

Besides that, the club looks and sounds fantastic. I don't care what the other reviews say, the sound is very pleasing! The club has definitely increased my confidence. For any beginning to novice golfers, I HIGHLY advise trying this club out.

Customer Service

On a side note, for beginners I incourage all of you to buy used better quality clubs rather than new mediocore ones. It will do wonders for your game.

I have now had my Nike Sumo for two weeks and have really been pleased with the results so far.... I had been previously playing with a Titleist 905R with a V2 stiff shaft and found it to be very very long however not forgiving for a player off 11. After trying most of the new MOI style drivers I found that the Nike Sumo (the round one) suited me best as it appeared to be long and more importantly forgiving with a sensible price point. After testing various shaft combinations i actually found that the best combination for a good launch angle and spin was actually a 9.5 loft with a stiff stock shaft.
I now find myself on the fairway the majority of times and off center hits are not as punished. I have also found that the distance is actually increasing with practice and averaging about 265yards.
Overall this appears to be a great club that offers a great combination of legnth whilst being forgiving.

Well done Nike.
Mind you I also tried the FT-i and also found this to be astonishing however is it worth another £149, i didn't think so.

Previously hit a Cleveland Launcher I bought from Golf Headquarters here in Charleston a few years ago as my first clubs...and had problems develop with everything going all over the place on the fairway; so much I resorted to hitting 3 iron off tee so I could at least keep it straight. Went back to GH today to check things out after giving my clubs to my brother while I was deployed overseas but now that I am retired I am ready to try again.
Started off hitting another Cleveland Launcher and HiBore as I was interested in staying with Cleveland brand. All over again and shots were in the 160-170 yd range in air on the swing and launch monitor inside shop. Hit with the GBB a few times without much difference and also with a square headed club...think it was a Taylor Made which went straighter but not further. Then the guy helping me brought out the Nike Sumo with a JUMBO grip and it definately felt different to me with the large 460 head and thicker grip. I immediately started hitting it straighter and further than the others. I was averaging around 200-220 in air on the launch monitor and 3 out of last 5 hits were dead down middle with other two just barely to one side or the other but still in fairway. My swing speed has went down over the past 3 years of not touching a club as it was around 85-88mph with a ball speed of around 120-128mph. The club has the stock STIFF Diamana shaft with Lamkin grips and a 9.5 loft on head. I was going to try a 10.5 to see if I could get more distance but on the other clubs that were 10.5 or 11.5 they were not any further and with more backspin likely would not roll as far once on ground as this club.

I ended up buying this club and after hitting 50 balls inside I cant wait to go outside and hit it more and working on my swing. I am guessing to pick up more swing speed after loosening up and getting back used to swinging clubs and be back around 90 in few weeks. Great club so far and looking forward to hitting the fairways again...rather than dreading them.

Customer Service

The salesman not only took time to do swing analyzation but he also regripped the club and found me a head cover as it was a club someone bought and used for a while and then traded for another. No scuffs or dings on club at all so nearly new club for $100 less than retail and the people at GH did not charge for regripping or analyzing my swing while I shopped.

Wasn't too thrilled with this club at first. This club wasn't much different than my R7 (400cc, nice trajectory, no roll). On the 3rd playing with this driver, something clicked. Now, I love this driver. I always reshaft a store bought driver. That is not the case with this driver. It is very easy to square the clubhead in the hitting zone and I can hit a draw or controlled fade. This club is loud in a golf store, but I have to say that I don't notice it on the course...go figure. I say try it, you might like it.

I had much problems to hit the fairway with my old Wilson Pro Staff DC and to make the ball flying. The Sumo is quiet easy to play, I could significantly increase the club head speed. The Ball flies straight away every time. I am very happy with this driver, I think it is the best you can buy, but you must put something in your ears, the sound is awfull.

Read many reviews and hit many clubs in the golf shop. Most impressed with Nike due to the three shaft options per shaft flex. The grey edge makes the club head appear smaller, which is nice. My ball flight tends to be high, swing tempo fast, swing speed varies on need 95-110. Any faster I'm out of control. The guys at Pro Golf Disc suggested the vs 160-5 blue shaft due to it lower ball flight charactoristics low torque. I choose the reg vs 160-5 blue at first due to the low end 95 swing speed.

Got to the range and the ball flew too high and not at all consistant. The harder OR slower I swang the crazier it got. I went back and grilled the guys with questions and opted for the stiff vs 160-5 blue and headed back to the range. Back to the stiff which I'm used to.

The distance at the range wasn't all impressive due to typical head winds and age of range balls, but the accuracy was quite nice. The smoother yet harder I swang with the stiff shaft the more controlled the club seems to get and the ball started to jump off the face. The slower I swing the harder the ball felt and the distance died off rapidly.

I played three rounds afterward with bridgestone e-6 balls. First wasn't to impressed, still getting into it. Second and Third the dialing came in pretty sweet. Miss hits tended to average 205-210. Not to happy with that since I hit my old cobra 5 and 3 woods 210 and 225. Other hits on sweet spot ranged from 240-275 ave with a few boomer due to sloop and firmness of the fairway. Due to the low spin charactoristic my bad swings produced not soooo nasty fades, and haven't slice one on the course, YET. I know its in me.

I could finally feel like this club was of use in my bag. Do not hesitate to take your clubs back if they don't work. Golf mart give 90 day, and other usaually 30. Take advantage of thae time and make it happen.

Customer Service

Pro golf made me feel a bit uncomfortable with return but did it. Golf Mart with other clubs were great and offer longer trial periods.
Taylormade has low customer satisfaction. Cracked club face and had to wait for them to send a new driver even though they had same club in stock.

I have to say that on no fewer than 3 occasions I have gone back to the store with a view to trading this club in. However, each time I could not bring myself to spending more money so decided to persevere. After all the press on this club has been godd in the states, and excellent over here in the UK.
I used to play with a TM R580 in stiff but moved to this one with a regular Diamana. I have to confess that this club has really grown on me. Now that I'm used to it after the stiff shaft, I am much straighter and consistent. It seems quite an easy club to get through. Length is fine and in time I think it will get longer. (Just read that bit back; made me smile!)
I think the point is, when you switch clubs it does take some time to get used to a club like a driver. Perseverence has paid off and it looks like it will stay in the bag for some time.

I bought the Sasquatch 460 and loved it. My 14 yr old son was eyeing it so I gave it to him. I set out to get a SUMO to replace my awesome Sasquatch 460 that shreads the ball down the middle time after time. Bought it on ebay with a Aldila vs proto 65-5 stobbed up in it. Took it out the first day and was hitting some good drives but wasn't sure about how stiff and different the shaft was feeling. Took it out two more times and got the swing pattern more in tune for this shaft. Today I shot 40 and hit all of my drives pretty much down the middle focusing on keeping my head down and focusing on the ball even after the shot. Great results and a very long and confident ball flight. I am to play tomorrow at 11 a.m. and plan to shoot in the 70's. I love this club!!!!
