Nike SasQuatch Sumo 460 Drivers

Nike SasQuatch Sumo 460 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

Having won the Golf Digest Editor's Choice for drivers in 2006, it was no doubt a challenge to improve on the original all titanium SasQuatch driver. What made the original great, makes the new SasQuatch Sumo even better - a new NIKE PowerBow geometry results in a higher MOI of 4950g cm2 vs. 4650g cm2. Therefore, SasQuatch Sumo delivers even more distance and forgiveness.

Model Reviewed: Nike Sumo 10.5 Proto By You

Purchased the 10.5 Degree with Aldila Proto By You shaft in Stiff Flex. I tested this club in the Golf Galaxy simulator on three different occasions (including one with a Nike Rep.) All three times I had excellent results.

On the course the results were much different. Despite a relatively high swing speed the shaft was unresponsive. It seemed extremely Stiff. (I have traditionally played TaylorMade Drivers, always with a Stiff Flex).

Traded in the Stiff flex for the same Aldila Proto By You shaft, but in a Regular flex. The difference was amazing. The first time out I hat a few good hits, a few miss hits, but four of the longest drives I have ever hit. The Aldila Regular Flex seemed at least as Stiff as the TaylorMade shafts I had become accustomed to.

I am now looking forward to the rest of the Golf season.

Just some advise. Golf simulators are fine, but demo the club first, preferably outdoors.

Great club, Great shaft !!!!

Model Reviewed: Nike Sumo 13*

I have been playing a 9.5* Taylormade R7. Placing the ball off my front heel was inconsistant and a less than perfect swing would hook the ball. Placing it in the front center (where I play the 3-wood) would not get airborne. Ebay had a Sumo Lucky 13 at such a good price I had to try an experiment: Buy a higher lofted club and play it closer to center.
WOW! What an incredible discovery! I play this 13* driver a little front of center stance and it is the perfect trajectory; extremely long and straight. My confidence off the tee is the best it has been in my 20 yrs of golf. I might have gotten the same results with other high lofted drivers, but this Nike has won my heart... even fits in my themed headcover, so I don't have that ugly monster look dominating my bag!
Best bargain out there is current generation clubs,to boot. I paid $120 including shipping and brand new in the plastic.

Model Reviewed: Nike SQ Sumo 460 9.5 Stiff

Just bought this club yesterday, a few hours before my golf league. I tried the demo at the golf shop on an open range and decided on the 9.5 stiff flex Diamana shaft (stock). I tried the 10.5 stiff and while it felt like I had a little more control, the ball balloned a little too much for my liking. I'm a high ball hitter to begin with, so the 9.5 seemed a better fit for me (no launch monitors at this shop.)

First hole on my course is 325 yards, straight away, slightly uphill. I put a great swing on it and drove the green (front side, about 315 yards) and am putting for eagle (3 putted for par, but that is a whole other story!).

Don't get me wrong, this is not a miracle club. Next hole, I swung much harder and push-sliced it into the other fairway. Next hole, I swang easier and snap-hooked it into the other fairway.

But when my tempo was correct, this thing is the best driver I ever hit. On the 9th, a par 5, I bombed another drive that left me only 160 to the hole.

So I guess my conclusion is, this driver hasn't magically made my swing faults disappear, but it did tend to mute them a little. An it was much easier to control this driver than other drivers I have had. I just really have to keep my tempo in check and make smooth, firm swings - not too hard, not too soft - and this thing puts it where I want it.

On the range I was able to work it left or right, so it is definitly a playable club, if you need to do that. I just need to get my mental game to the point I hit as well on the course as I do on the range.

I first tried this club at a demo day at the local driving range. I own a Callaway X460 Tour with a sitf shaft that I hit very well average 280 yards. But after trying the Sumo I couldn't believe it. I hit about 20 balls and every shot was perfect.I couldn't believe the way it felt in my hands, so the next day I went out a bought one form the local distributer an haven't looked back.

Model Reviewed: Nike SQ sumo 10.5 NV Proto By you 65 Stiff Flex

This is my 3rd review, 1st I reviewed Callaway x460 last year, 2nd Macgregor Mactec NVG2 Draw 460, and this is the third one. I've been using X460 for a year and love it never thought of changing it, my HD is 0.6, my swing speed for driver is about 95-110 mph depend on how hard I wanna hit it, my carry distance is about 240-250 with callaway, total distance is about 250-265 yards. Last week I got this SQ sumo (not square) as my BD present. I decided to give this stick a try. I went to driving range and hit both X460 and SUMO about 50 balls each...I noticed the differences in feel and carry distance, X460 still have better sound (just for me coz I like the brass band sound of X460) but SQ sumo is way more consistant everything tends to went straight [I'm natural fade player]. WOW is the word that can describe this baby the most. I flew the ball way over where I used to be...I carry the ball about 10-15 yards further...and total distance is increasing by 10-20 yards depend on how good I hit it....unbeleivable. I don't trust the 1st experiment just yet...
The 2nd day I went out to play the same course again...play 2 ball in every hole...with both driver head to head ...Pro V1 is my ball of choice...count only good hit on both of them...SQ sumo got X460 by about 10-15 yards as I said before....and the most important thing I like about is SQ sumo I dont' have to swing it too perfect ....sometime even on miss hit the ball still ended up okay in the FW or light rough...PLAYABLE is my 1st priority ...player in my calibor we take any ball that is in play.

Conclusion:
for now...Nike SQ Sumo...240-275 in FW or in play all the time...I'm very happy with this gift ...thanks to my mom...

Callaway X460 ...best sound 240-260 in FW sometimes ....you can't beat the sweet sound of this stick

You know which will be my keeper....
Do yourself a favor ... go to see PGA pros and get fit ... particular driver fitted particular person...
SHAFT also matters....very much....

Hope this review help some people ...
Have fun and enjoy your golf game.

Peace out :)

Model Reviewed: Sasquatch Sumo

I've had a Ping G2 for a couple of years now, and tried the Nike Sasquatch Sumo (non square) just for the heck of it. The Nike blew away my G2 as far as accuracy. Put an easy swing on it, and dead straight, very penetrating flight. Let loose on it, and it will bring out the flaws in your swing but nowhere as bad as the G2. Way more forgiving. Just kept hitting it STRAIGHT! Distance wise, it's about the same as my G2, but due to the penetrating trajectory, roll may be further. Couldn't tall on the range. Had the stock Diamana shaft in it, and was great....suprisingly! I played the Lucky 13 degree, and it really doesn't seem to fly like a 13. Was lower than my 11.5 G2.

Enough said - the G2 is on the auction block!

Model Reviewed: Sumo 1 and Sumo 2 10.5*

Both models are way too loud and annoying at impact. The Sumo-1 is a snap hooking machine. Sumo-2 is straighter but goes nowhere for me anyway. I find it very hard to believe that any touring pro will play these. They have different specs, head weights and face angles. Both models are too light as well. I have a Taylor Made R7 TP 425, Ping Rapture, and a Ft-3 Fade tour model that I switch between depending on course etc...I spent 25 minutes on the range with the Sumo-1 fighting a sniper hook using several different shafts. When I went back to one of my drivers for a few swings I would hit my high, long fade which I prefer. I play in alot of amateur events and almost never see Nike drivers in the bags of top amateurs and when I do they are the Shallow face models with open faces only available to touring pro's. You have to know someone to procure one of these. By the way, where are all you tools who claim to be hitting 300 yard drives consistently? I swing around 118mph and maybe once a year I encounter a top amateur who keeps it up with me or hits it slightly beyond me. Most Pga pro's carry the ball between 250-275 yards. Rarely do you see a 300 carry like Tiger, Bubba Watson etc.. So unless you reach 120mph on a legit launch monitor which little side spin keep dreaming. Sergio Garcia at this years British Open carried his Superquad around 275 yards and he is the best all around driver in the game. You long hitters must be hiding out at your local muni's and bringing those 6000 yard courses to there knee's with scores in the low 60's. It's a shame you don't come and qualify for the amatuers, mid-ams and other big tourney's. I guess you guys are too good and would rather slap it around with your Walmart buddies and down some Budweiser's over a 25 cents skins game...

Shaft: Stiff
Loft: 9.5

Over the last couple months my drving has gone from a average of 240-250 fairway to pulled right (I'm left handed) 220. So i started researching different drivers trying to find a nice one with a nice price. So i began to hit drivers at a local golf store and liked the Callaway Big Bertha 454 and the Callaway X460 but i was hitting those inside a net, so no telling. Today i went to a tent sale where they allow you to hit the clubs on a range and tried the X460 (inconsistent), the G5 (speratic), the R5 425 (ok but i pulled too many). Then finally my Dad came out with the Nike Sasquatch SUMO and i hit it 3 times 250 in air and straight or with a slight fade. PERFECT! So i wonder how much will i be dissapointed when i learn the price. But it was $200 (DEMO) so now i have this beauty in my bag helping me break 85. P.S. Cool Headcover!

Model Reviewed: SQ Sumo

I already had a brand new Taylormade r5 tp( an r5 withwieghts you can move and are not preset) and the driver is a great driver. I won a sq sumo with a diamana stiff shaft and I love it. Friends told me it goes to high for good players but they were wrong
when tee'd at normal heighth I am able to hit a medium high soft draw that carries about 285 and lands softly...finding many good spot around golf courses. When I want to cheat the wind I tee it extremely low, like Tiger or Stuart Appleby, and with an easy swing the ball comes off like a line driver line drive about 275. When I have a strait away hole and I want to hit a bomb, I keep it tee'd low and swing full. The result is a mid-low penetrating ball flight that carriesabout 280 and rolls about 30-35 yards. Distance and trajectory control with this driver are awsome...but the fantastic part it how straight it goes. I stand over knowing I will hit a draw that is between 1 and 5 yards....big confidence booster...My first full round with it I shot a 67.

Model Reviewed: SQ Sumo 10.5 Aldila VS-65 Stiff

I traded in my original SQ 9.5 Stock stiff for this 10.5 VS-65 Proto Stiff on Weds 5/29 at 3pm. I teed off at 4pm and sent the first ball I ever hit with it straight down the middle. Sound is more pronounced than the original SQ but not crazy ear-ringing like the Sumo2. I played my 3rd round with it today and shot a 40 on the front 9! I hit all 6 fairways and was amazed that it is straighter than the original. The back 9 is very dog-legged so I went with more 3W and 4I than driver but I finished on an 84.
I went to the 10.5 from 9.5 that I had always used so I don't have to swing so hard on every tee and it payed off big time. The VS-65 Proto and my ProV1x ball help keep the spin down while the 10.5 makes it launch much easier with a smooth; well-coiled swing. I am playing again in the morning because it was so pleasant to hit. Longest shot of the on level ground according to my SkyCaddie SG3 was 317 yards. I am in love all over again.
P.S. The Aldila VS Proto shafts are $180 alone at GolfSmith and came free on the Sumo!
