I normally don't post reviews but, after reading Tyrone Wilson's writings below, I feel the need to respond, for a number of reasons. This guy is way out of line, and here's why: he takes exception with a fellow reviewer for calling two writers "cretins", yet what does he do? He calls the guy a chronic masturbator. I guess in his world, the way to let a person know they shouldn't be insulting towards others is to insult them five times as strong as anything that they ever wrote. Additionally, this guy Tyrone Wilson is ignorant. Let me explain. The reason that "golfnutjob" called two reviewers cretins is not because they disagreed with the majority of us who think the Cobra ss 427 is a terrific club- the reason that guy said that is because those two reviewers were completely ridiculous in their summations. One guy said that he had a "127 mph swing and that he caved in the face of the cobra driver" to which any normal person would say "no sh#t"! If your swing is faster than every player on the P.G.A tour, including Tiger Woods, then the Cobra 427 probably isn't for you. Matter of fact, I'd venture to say that there are few clubs out there that ARE suitable for your game, at least without a steel or Fujikura x-flex graphite shaft. The second reviewer said that, as he was a scratch golfer, he had difficulty working the ball. Again- no sh#t! It's not a driver that's DESIGNED to be workable! The Cobra ss 427 is a club MADE FOR MID TO HIGH HANDICAPPERS THAT HAVE A LOT OF TROUBLE OFF THE TEE AND NEED A FORGIVING CLUB TO HELP THEM FIND THE FAIRWAY! It is not a Titleist 975j, nor a Mizuno Blue Rage, etc. In other words, IT IS NOT A LOW HANDICAPPERS/SCRATCH GOLFERS CLUB!!!! Got that? It is a club designed for forgiveness first and last, and there are many golfers whom it can benefit. It is a well made piece of equipment for decent to not-so-great golfers. To say it is a piece of junk because you are a scratch golfer and it didn't match up with your game would be like Jeff Gordon saying that a new Beemer isn't a good car because it doesn't have the pick-up and handling of a high performance race car. Both of those reviews were removed from this website because they were poorly written and irrational, not because they were contrarian. Tyrone Wilson never got to read the reviews in question before he foolishly added his two cents. Pity. The Cobra ss 427 is a wonderfully forgiving club that will benefit many, many golfers (the majority of us who AREN'T highly skilled) and is a fine piece of work at an EXTREMELY good price compared to other drivers. Mr. Wilson should get his facts straight, and not throw rocks from his own glass house. If you have trouble off the tee, try the Cobra. |

I normally drive the ball pretty solid as I am using the Cleveland Launcher. Actually, I love the launcher and was not really searching for a new driver. However, I was at the range on a demo day and decided to actually demo the Cobra Driver. There seemed to be a lot of people who were happy with the club, so I was curious to try it. I hit about a bucket of balls with the club and found a few observations. First, the launch angle of the club is such that it hits the ball a lot higher than what is desireable to me. Second, the head is the size of a cantaloupe, giving an undesireable look to the club. Third, the headcover was useless and way too small for this driver. Fourth, the shaft was longer than what I think is optimal and kept me from hitting consistent drives. Last, the club produced inconsistent ball flights as well as lines into the wind. Overall, I was not at all happy with this club and was thankful for Cleveland's launcher, definitely the best driver on the market today. Customer Service Less than good, there is not even an 800 number to call them. just brought this driver after having my swing analysed (well worth doing!!). Found it to be fantastic - long, straight, excellent penetrating ball flight, plenty of roll and managing to carry 245 yards!! Very impressive for a 22 handicapper. Was suprised by the very loud crack made at impact, though it's a sound I've grown to love. Fitted with a stiff graphite shaft as my swing speed is 100 mph and 9 degree loft - my distance robbing slice has now been replaced by a wondrfully straight ball flight. GO TEST ONE NOW, you won't regret it. Customer Service not used Similar Products Used: TM 320, Ping i3, Titleist 975, Callawy Gbb11, wilson deep red, callaway warbird and steelhead......... |

King Cobra SS430 10.5 degree regular Shaft
The Cobra SS430 is the UK version of the SS427. It appears identical other than the non-USGA conforming face. All of the clubs i have seen so far appear to have Graphite Design 55 gram shafts (although i may be proven wrong on that). I have the 10.5 degree regular shaft version. I swing the club at about 90 - 95 MPH but found the regular shaft to be just fine. It is an advantage to buy some long tees when using this club due to the very deep face. My experience of this club suggests that best results are obtained in terms of distance and accuracy by not trying to thrash at the ball. Instead maintain good tempo and a smooth swing. Be warned this club is VERY loud at impact. I am averaging about 250 yard drives without trying hard at all. Overall a high quality, well priced club that can hit the ball a good distance and keep it in the fairway. Who can ask for me? Bought this driver after seeing very good reviews on this site. I was not disappointed, I used to slice terribly but now hit pretty straight. Just take an easy swing and watch it fly, no need to melt it. This club is a bargain compared to some of the big names and kicks them into touch when it comes to performance. I'm now investigating replacing my Taylor Made fairway woods with Cobra SS fairway woods. Customer Service n/a Similar Products Used: Hippo Giant, Taylor Made 360ti. |

Cobra SS 427 10.5 Deg Left-Handed
Purchased the Cobra SS 427 based upon the many reviews that I read here as well as from other Golf Ratings, i.e., GolfTest USA, Rankmark.First of all, I am left-handed and somewhat disadvantaged because most retailers don't carry left hand demo clubs, therefore I rely on the feedback from others to make purchasing decisions for golf related items. I want to thank all of the reviewers for their thoughtful insight and opinions since fellow golfers are more credible sources of information than sales hype and advertisements. My first outing with the cobra was at an outdoor driving range (heated facility). After warming up with short irons and mid irons I was eagerly anticipating hitting this club. After a dozen or so balls that were less than spectacular, I was questioning the wisdom of my purchase even though the club received stellar reviews here and elsewhere. I noticed that I was making contact on the heal of the club based on the visuals clues of ball marks all over the heel. Not one ball in the sweet spot or even close to the toe. Finally it dawned on me. This driver is perhaps a full inch longer than my Deep Red that I still have. I moved back from the ball, asked the range people for a larger rubber tee and voilla! I have never enjoyed hitting a driver as much as I did with this club in my hand. I stand 5'8" and weigh 155lbs.I have always fought a slice and my natural shot is a fade. Could never draw the ball. After making the adjustments as described above, my shot pattern began to emerge... straight, straight and climbing, slight fade. If you are fortunate enough to demo this club, make the adjyustments others have suggested and I confirm, slow down the swing, tee it up higher, and if this club is longer than your current driver, stand a little further away from the ball and watch the results. Great club. Customer Service E-mailed Cobra customer service in regard to obtaining a larger headcover and received an immediate reply indicating they will send one in the mail. Similar Products Used: Adams SC, Taylormade 320, Wilson Deep Red, which is a good club, but I need more loft. The 9 deg hurts me. |

I love this driver. After readig the review, I bought one and was immediately impressed. I don't (can't) shape my shots. All that I shoot for is long and straight. This driver does just that. Buy it, you'll love it. Everytime I pull it out, I make light of how big the head is by cracking a joke. Somethiing like buying a VW the other day and putting it on this stick. It gets a laugh. Makes new friends with whomever I'm paired with, and gets their wise cracking out of the way when they see my shots. As for the recent negative reviews. If these gus are as good as they say they are, why are they buying this club??? Just to post here and brag? Some small minds operating here. If your good enough to shape your shot and want great look and feel and tradition. Go buy a persommon driver that's the size of a golf ball and hit away. cobra ss 427 10.5 Reg
First off- let me thank all of you who wrote reviews of this wonderful driver. I don't work for Cobra and have previously never owned a piece of Cobra equipment. This is the first golf club I bought sight unseen and never tested, and I ONLY did it because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews posted here. After purchasing and using the club, I had to post my feelings about the ss 427, especially when I read the only blemishes posted here about this beauty of a club from a couple of cretins, both from Kansas City, who DIDN'T like it. This club is so easy to use, so confidence-inspiring, and so good looking (for being oversize) that I look FORWARD to teeing off, after two summers of terror-on-the-teebox. I've been playing for three years, and now consistently shoot in the 90's. I've owned one other driver, a Taylor Made 320, which I'm not going to knock as it is a very solid, well made driver. But it is not very forgiving, and any not-so-great golfer striving to get better wants forgivness first and last, period. A straight drive down the middle, of at least 200 yds, is the third most important aspect to lower scores- first being putting, second being wedge play. But, in a way, driving well is the most important facet of golf because let's face it, psychologically-speaking, getting of the tee box fairly well is a must for one's confidence. That is what the Cobra 427 does so well- sets up beautifully at address, feels wonderfully light in the hands, and encourages a slow, controlled swing through the ball. And yes, it does launch the ball extremely high, but I need to explain something to most golfers out there who don't get it (and believe me, I WAS ONE OF THEM!)- YOU WANT TO LAUNCH IT HIGH! Studies have now proven that the higher the launch of the ball, the farther it travels. Period. That low, boring, sreaming, line-drive out of the tee box that we all crave is, believe it or not, NOT the best way to get distance. Don't take my word for it, read the March 2003 issue of Golf Magazine- they spell it out. And this "high launch thing" is exactly the ss 427's strength- it is designed to hit moon shots that go straight and long. Now, be aware, the 427 doesn't hit the ball for you. You still must make a decent swing- what makes this baby so cool is that drives that went right now go LESS right. You don't get punished AS bad. So, dear golfer, ignore the two bad reviews from the only two morons who didn't appreciate this godsend of a club- one who has a 130 mph swing and said he "caved in the face" (o.k. King Kong, I guess you need a different driver) and the other, BHamilton, who said that only "weaker" players will get something out of this club (hey, Sherlock- this is a driver made for mid to high handicappers who aren't trying to draw or fade the ball but rather want STRAIGHT drives) and take the rest of our collective words for it- this is one hell of a club! Lastly- to reiterate: 1) Tee the ball up higher (buy longer tees) 2) Swing slower and more controlled 3) Don't be afraid of the height your drives attain, height isn't bad and 4) with the money you saved buying this club, take your wife/girlfriend out to dinner- win-win situation all around. Customer Service Excellent- sent me a better fitting headcover immediately. I'm now a Cobra convert! Similar Products Used: Taylor Made 320 |

Wow, what a driver! It took a few range sessions to tame this beast. Like several people have commented, I've found that a VERY under control, slow, smooth swing results in the best drives. Before I figured this out I kept losing drives high and to the right. I couldn't convince myself to swing easy. Now I realize that I can back off to even 75% effort and still get tremendous distance, and right down the middle. The biggest selling point of this driver is not outrageous distance, however it's the very good distance you get with such a relaxed, slow swing speed. The sound is piercing, my ears have rung on several occasions. Anyone looking into a new driver should definintely consider the King Cobra SS 427. (11 handicap, 95 mph avg driver speed, but had to slow down to about 87 mph to get good results). |
