Usually I don't write reviews on clubs that I have demoed only but this club has inspired me to do so.Wow is all I have to say about this driver. My first couple of swings took some time to get used to because of the huge head of this driver. As my practice progressed it just got better and better i would highly recommend to any handicap because of it's forgiveness

As a 20 handicapper I was acutely aware of falling 15-30 metres behind off the tee to regular club competitors, all now equipped with the VFT-type drivers, compared to my 3 year old titanium driver. After sales advice and a few swings with the ERCII I opted for the Cobra's (Reg shaft, 9 deg) many sweet spots in pursuit of forgiveness as much as length. With 10 weeks use, I'm a committed advocate and hugely enjoying the boring repetition of being on the fairway > 75% of the time, with the confidence to use the "blunderbuss" in tight situations of even into the wind on long par 3's. Whilst not stressing sweet spot #5 (the dead centre) very often, the typical high and climbing ball flight with slight draw with 10-15 extra metres is sufficiently rewarding to give this a 5/5 rating. My only quibble is that the black paint on the head scratches to easily.

Please trust me on this one, as I have two of these Cobra SS 427 drivers. Last year I bought the 10.5 degree with a regular flex as this is the club "the experts" say best fits my swing speed. Forgiving - very. Straight - yes. Long - yes. Trajectory - very high; too high. Roll - very little. As much as I liked this club, I always had the feeling that I was losing distance due to the high trajectory of the ball flight. Three weeks ago I demo'd a 9 degree with a stiff flex. I tried it at the driving range and then played a round with it. Eureka! Forgiving - very. Straight - yes. Long - yes; very long; much longer than the 10.5 degree club. Trajectory - a beautiful, boring ball flight that lands very hot. Roll - mondo; much; huge; an amazing amount. I then purchased a brand new 9 degree with a stiff flex on e-bay and couldn't be happier. I have played three rounds with the 9 degree club, in New England spring conditions (meaning many soggy fairways), and I will honestly say that I am hitting the ball at least 20-60 yards further with the 9 degree stiff than with the 10.5 degree regular. A good portion (maybe about 1/3rd) of this distance gain is from the lower, more boring ball flight, but I was amazed at the amount of roll I have gotten with this club. Even on soggy fairways. The roll has been unbelievable. And all of this with just a moderate swing speed; you don't have to try and kill the ball with this club. My assessment and advice: 1. If you're shopping for a new driver, you simply must try this club! 2. I would advise you to demo clubs with less loft and less flex than you may currently be using now. Don't be fooled by the old standards of "what's your swing speed" and the like. 3. Hitting this club into the net at the local golf store isn't good enough. You've got to go to a driving range and hit balls to see the ball flight, carry, and roll in order to find the right club for your swing. 4. And don't blindly believe that a high trajectory ball flight will always give you your best distance, because in my case, it simply was not true. 5. E-bay! Don't ever pay retail again! In short, I couldn't be happier with my new Cobra, and I shocked my wife and son with the distance I was getting off the tee during the three rounds we played. I was at places on the course (in terms of length off the tee), and in the fairway, that I never thought were possible with my game. There. I've told my story. I just hope that others may benefit from my experience. Also, I carry a Cobra 3 wood and 5 wood and these are great clubs too.

Model Reviewed: Cobra TT427 9*

Yesterday my club their annual Demo Day. I went looking for a replacement for my TiSi with my sights set narrowly on the new Ping Si3 and the Callaway GBBII. Like most of the other members, the Cobra tent was not on my radar. After being underwhelmed with the Ping, Callaway and Cleveland, I went down the line finding better results with the larger Titleist and the TM 580, even the Nike, including the forthcomimg 450cc version. Then, for the heck of it, I tried the Cobra. I was shocked to find this club considerably longer than the others, higher with more carry, and easier to hit straight (and cheaper!). Just to make sure my swing had not just found the groove, I went back and tried the Callaway and Ping again with no difference in results. I'm a pretty long knocker but have no interest in working the ball with my driver so I cannot comment on that aspect of the Cobra. I ordered the 427cc 9* on the spot. An hour or so later I overheard many others making the same discovery. Most all I saw who tried the Cobra were turning around with sheepish grins after clobbering the darn thing. One even waived an offer for a $200 trade-in allowance from Callaway for his old driver. Golf club preferences are a very personal matter, but you owe it yourself to try this club before shelling out for one of the outstanding new crop of drivers. Oh, I almost forgot to mention: its big and its loud!

I am a fairly decent player. I play off 4 and was recently in America on holiday. I took the chance to get my TM 300 reshafted and also try out some other drivers. I took the King Cobra, Titleist 975J and TM 540 onto the range. The salesman had a swing speed monitor so I could have some hard facts to go with the feel of the clubs. WIth the TM and the 975J my swing speed was pretty standard, at about 104 mph. Then I tried the Cobra. I may just be lucky and have stumbled upon the perfect shaft for me. I really don't know. But my speed went up to 115 mph. That's a huge jump. I bought it, and it has been in my bag ever since. And it has not let me down at all. I play regularly with scratch and + handicap golfers, and I have always been a good 20-30 yards behind them. Now I am up with them (except one friend who hits it into a different area code). It's not hugely workable, but very long and straight will do for me almost every time. It's given me extra distance and confidence and I'm hitting 2 or 3 clubs less into the greens than I was. Try it, and may be you'll find it suits your game too, regardless of your handicap!!

I'm a 4 handicap golfer. My long game is my strength, my putting is only average at best and my chipping can only be described as terrible for somebody with my handicap. I have been playing golf for twenty four years. I'm regarded as a long hitter in my home golf club, possibly the longest in the club (even with my old driver). I've played 4 rounds with this driver now and I'm astonished at the results I've achieved. My previous driver was a Titleist 975D which had given me four years of excellent service but was just beginning to show its age. This driver is much more forgiving, minimises any hooks or slices (and is therefore much straighter) and is much, much longer than my old 975D. I get a very good trajectory with a huge carry and still get some run. As for this club being only suitable for higher handicapers - I completely disagree. Cobra and Titleist are the same company and I'm sure that when the new Titleist driver that Ernie Els is using to such good effect hits the market, it will turn out to be much more similar to this club than it is to the current crop of Titleist drivers. I admit that this club is not as easy to shape as some other drivers (the 975D was good for this), but I regard this as a strength rather than a weakness. How many times a round do you stand on a tee with a driver and have to hit a big fade or big draw? Once? Twice? Not at all? You can still hit a draw or a fade with this club if you want but it will not be a big big draw or big big fade. Who can have a problem with that? Anyway, If Tiger Woods wants to hit a big high draw he uses a three wood (13th tee at Augusta). The only slight criticism I have is that it comes with a choice of only 2 shafts and the stiff shaft is not very stiff at all, but luckily it suits me fine (even though it shouldn't). This is quite simply the best driver I've ever hit and I've pretty much hit them all.

I spent two days testing this club with the Ping TiSi Tec and my own Taylor made 360. After two sessions and 150 range balls, the Cobra 427 was the most consistent. When you hit the Ping TiSi Tec dead solid perfect, it is fabulous, but "off" hits produced really "off" shots. The Cobra 427 gave me more correction on less than perfect hits. It honestly gave me at least 20 more yards on my drives vs. the Taylor Made 360. Only suggestion, do not kill the ball, swing rhythmically, nice tempo, and the slice factor is reduced.

I'm writing this review to agree with golfer55's review. He hit the nail right on the head. This club is NOT for the most experienced players. I've been playing for 11 years now. I purchased this club after hearing so many good things about it, trading in my awful (ans I mean AWFUL) Callaway VFT Hawkeye. I hit it great at first, but then things went wrong. I developed one of the worst slices I've ever seen in my life. The ball really jumps off the face, looks great, but then...swish, off to the right. At first, I thought it was my speed (after all, no matter how many times you try to kill it, the ball always comes back for more), so I changed that. No help. Then I thought it was my grip. Changed that. No help. Spent 2 hours with a PGA instructor at Bethpage (the finest golf courses on Long Island), and even he couldn't figure it out. This club just wasn't for me. I have since traded it for a Cleveland Launcher 400, and the results are much better with the exact same swing. Don't get me wrong, the Cobra is a pretty true club, a sure sleeper in the world of drivers, but it just didn't fit my needs. I'll also never buy a club based on reviews of others (nothing against any of you fine reviewers). Everybody's swing is different, and every club works differently with different people.

I had read many of the reviews on the web about this club, and decided to give it a try on a demo basis from Edwin Watts. I took the demo model home with me and played two rounds with it. My current drivers were, the Hippo 400cc and the Mizuno Forged Titanium. If this club were a women, I'd marry her. The ball explodes off the huge, confidence-inspiring head and goes straight as an arrow. My slice has been reduced to a light fade and I've added about 30 yards to my drives. In my last round, I hit two drives 310 yards which I had never done before. I had to recalculate the yardage three times to make sure I wasn't missing something. This club will be with me for a long, long time. Amazing club.

Customer Service

The Edwin Watts store in Palm Harbor FL has first class, premier service and people. Being able to demo a club before you buy it, is exceptionally satisfying.
