Cleveland Launcher 400 Drivers

Cleveland Launcher 400 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

New technology has made it possible for golf clubs to be more effective and powerful than ever before. The Launcher 400 has the technology of the original Launcher 330 with the added benefits that come from a larger clubhead. This great feeling driver produces a higher launch angle with lower backspin for more carry and increased roll, and also offers an increased moment of inertia which reduces the amount of lost distance on off-center hits. With these new technological advances come restrictions to keep the game fair and fun for golfers of all levels. The rules of golf dictate that a driver face can only offer a certain amount of spring-like effect known as the Coefficient of Restitution or C.O.R. The USGA has officially ruled that the maximum amount of C.O.R. allowed in a golf club is .830. The New Launcher 400 precisely meets this legal limit allowing you to post all of your scores. So, you'll be able to put this club into play in any tournament at any golf course and feel confident that you're getting the distance, the great feel and accuracy of the most technologically advanced club in the game.

A while back, I bought a Cleveland Launcher 330 10.5* regular flex gold shaft. After several rounds, I found that I could not stop hooking the ball. I thought I'd give Cleveland another chance so I bought a Launcher 400 off of Ebay for $99. This 400 has 9.5* loft with a stiff flex gold shaft. Man, what a difference. I was hammering drives with a slight power fade that were long and in the fairway. This club rocks. The Launcher 400 will stay in my bag for a while.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland Launcher 400 8.5* Graffaloy Blue stiff shaft

Just bought this on eBay last week new for $130 and took it to the range yesterday for the first time. I hit my old driver (8* Callaway Steelhead Plus) three times before trying the Launcher, just for comparison. Well, there was no comparison. The first shot went dead straight. Fairly high for an 8.5* loft. And it sailed. And sailed. And sailed. Finally, it stopped sailing when it hit a pine tree standing behind the 40-foot tall net at the end of the range. Every good swing I had resulted in a ball hitting the net or going over, neither of which had I ever even come close to before. On mis-hits, I hit draws and fades, but not a single vicious hook or slice. I've been notorious for hitting balls off the right side of that range, but even though I lined up at the far right of the tee area, the only balls that left the range were the ones I hit straight out the end of it. I've never tried any of the other high-tech drivers (R5, R7, 983K, etc), so I can't compare those, but at $130 this club is an absolute STEAL. As most of my high scoring trouble comes from the messes I get into off the tee, I'm betting this club lowers my handicap pretty significantly. I'll write a followup after I've used it for a while.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland Launcher 400 8.5* w/NV 65 Stiff

I'm writing this review to complement my previous one a few months back, where i reviewed a 9.5* 400 launcher with blue grafalloy shaft. Although the last setup i had was great, i found myself after a while losing the odd drive left (pull hook rather than snap hook), especially when i went for it a bit more. Now ive been playing golf long enough to know when ive put a good swing on one, yet the result was invariably the same - a big pull hook. I had an incling that this was the fault of the shaft rather than head, so purchased a new 8.5* with the NV shaft instead, (a shaft i had used before and had loved). All i can say is that this driver/shaft combo is awesome! Long flat draws are the result, yet there is no problem getting one to go left-right, and the distance is as long as anything ive hit before. I guess this is almost more a shaft review, but if anyone out there is in the market for a new club, i would highly recommned the 400 (if you can still get one), but just make sure you get a shaft that suits you. The Aldila NV seems to be a perfect match, and i wouldn't recommend the blue grafalloy.

This club is awesome. Long, straight and consistent. Club has a great 'thud' noise when you hit the sweet spot. The ball flight has a higher trajesctory than I am used to, but my distance is longer. Miss hits are few and far between, but when they do occur, the club is amazingly forgiving. I got this club brand new online for less than $150 which is a steal. Far and away the best driver I have ever hit.

Model Reviewed: Launcher 400, 10.5 stock stiff shaft

I have used this driver for about 2 years now and think it is one of the main reasons why i have went from a 14 handi to a 3 in those 2 years. The ball flight is great and the club is very forgiving. I think that the stock shaft is great, I have it in stiff and have a swing sweep of 105-110 and absolutely love the feel and results. My buddy got one last year and dropped his handicap from a 14 to a 7 in that year, and that was the only change to the bag he made. It will help your game, although i think it is actually better for people with a little harder swing speed, from 95mph and up. Give it a try, for the price now it could be the best bargain out there.

I have tried quite a few taylormade drivers, and really haven't liked any of them, maybe if I tried a custom shaft it would yield different results. I am also a fan of titleist drivers, the 983K especially.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland Launcher 400 9.5* Aldila NV stiff

After reading the great reviews for this club(They are really discounting them also), decided buy one and give it a go(paid $229). Like another reviewer, I also thought the 400 felt much crisper and more explosive than the 460. Personally, I just don't like the 450-460cc head sizes--can't believe there won't be increased wind resistance, and if you need a head that large then you probably should'nt be out on the course. Anyhow,I'm one of those players that seem to be between flexes(r+S) when it comes to shaft flex--my swing speed is around the low to mid 90's. Found the shaft flex in the NV stiff to be a touch too stiff for my swing. As a result, my ball flight was a bit too low, and could really not get the distance I know this club is capable of delivering. Whatever you do, don't get the stock shaft because it really sucks. Even though it is from Fujikura--it is obviously bottom of the line for them--torquey uneven slop is the best way to describe the stock shaft. This club with the NV or Blue shaft is a top notch product--in stiff flex in either of these great shafts you better have a swing speed in the upper 90's and up or you'll end up losing distance and wrecking your spinal disks trying to get the speed. I have another driver with the Graf Blue in reg flex--and it really plays like a firm flex--so that would be my recommend for this club for all those that swing in between a reg and stiff flex shaft. Bottom line, there are a lot of really good drivers out there--just comes down to what works for each individual. My favorites are the Cobra SS350 Tour and SZ400 Tour. This Cleveland is also a top club to consider.

Model Reviewed: Cleveland Launcher 400

I wrote a real good review for my Cobra 400SZ regular flex which I loved. Great club for breaking 100, 90, and helping control shots to the right (right handed). I started outspeeding the shaft as my game progressed. I went to swap my driver for the stiff shaft, but I read some of these reviews on the Launcher 400 and saw all the 5s. The first golf store I went to had one of those projection screens you hit into, and with hitting 3 drives it had me 255+ - straight. My problem with the Cobra I developed a pull (as the cubface does "scream left" as the Golf Digest Review (Feb 2005) states). I had to set up for a fade and lost some control. I knew to get into the mid to lower 80s would have been tough for my swing staying with the Cobra SZ with the swing I now have. I knew I had to go with a Cobra Tour model or try the Launcher or something else out. I tried the Callaway BBII 415, 454, 580XD (which to my surprise I liked when previously it took a lot for meto adjust to). Overall I really liked the Launcher 400 9.5, maybe because the one I tried out has the Aldila NV 65 Stiff shaft which I really like. After getting the Launcher, what has happenned has been simply amazing. First time out the ball stayed in bounds on holes I always wondered if I should use a 3 wood on. 2nd time out I had two drives 290+ as my swing speed naturally increased due to the straightness of the shots. My longest previously with other drivers was one 270+,which was helped by a big downhill roll. Truthfully some of this is the nut behind the wheel, but believe these reviews. This driver is straight. You can play a draw or fade, but is almost impossible to hook or slice. Also for my swing this shaft is awsome. Cleveland now is making the 460 version, so the 400 is the best deal in golf right now. In the Feb 2005 Golf Digest it stated that the 460 version is "The Shocker of the Group". I like the 400 version better as the 460 feels too big for me, and the 400 is the same technology as the 460, just a bit smaller. Believe these reviews. If your situation is similar to what mine was, trying to be a consitant 80s player, you need a straight driver that is long, try out this driver with confidence!!!

Model Reviewed: cleveland launcher 400 9.5

I borrowed a friend of mine's launcher while we were playing a round and could not beleive how long and straight I hit it. He had the 9.5 with the gold stock shaft, I consider myself a driver junkie, trying every new driver that comes along, that will be no more. I picked up a 9.5 with the aldila stiff shaft at my local golf shop for 100 bucks, used of course, but it is the best money I've ever spent on a driver, and the aldila shaft is much better than the stock fujikura shaft. I've never been a long hitter 230-240 now I'm a steady 270-280 with a few over 300, if you are looking for a new driver try this one out. Very easy to aim and setup is so natural it's hard to hit a bad shot, no more switching drivers for me this is the real deal. These driver are also closed out by cleveland so your best chance is to find one used or on ebay. Also tee it a little higher than normal and let it rip.

Customer Service

not needed, but I did speak with cleveland about trying to find a new head and they were very helpful in telling me there were no more available.

Model Reviewed: Launcher 400 9.5* - Blue Grafalloy S

Purchased on ebay for a bargain price after using a Titleist 975J for the past 3 years. In the interim also experiemented with a 983E, but found myself going back to the J after only a couple of rounds. But not anymore, I think the Launcher is here to stay! Its soooo very forgiving, and the combination with the blue grafalloy means I can use the 9.5* without hitting any balloon balls. The stock gold fuji's were very difficult to control with this head (too much torque), but would probably suit someone with a swing speed of less than 95mph. The blue grafalloy is a perfect match and allows you to really go after it without risking too much twisting. I've picked up about 20 yards overall on my old 975J, but the launcher carries about 25 further than the titleist, but does lose a little in roll. Not as good looking as the titleist, but I can't argue with the results - high flat balls with a slight draw bias. I can't see this leaving the bag for quite some time!

Reviewed before, but I've used it for a for weeks now, and I'm still very impressed. Was worried that the stiff shaft would not work for me. Using regular flex before. Took the 983K and 400 to the range yesterday. The 400 was allowing me to outdrive the 983 by 20-30 yards! The Aldila shaft will allow you to really crank on it without losing control. Great sound too!
