Gentleman...this club is incredible. Recently, I have bounced around from my TM 200 Driver and then the 975J. Again, hitting clasic blade irons (MacGregor, beautiful), Titleist Bullseye putter and various Hagan wedges. At my young age, I still find myself grabbing and hitting a Persimmon Driver that I have had for 15 years. It is gorgeous, stiff/steel etc. It offers me confidence and consistent hits. This is where the Callaway Steelhead 3 comes in. Today's Titanic, Titanium/graphite golliaths offer zippoo for feel. Ever wonder why the best out there still uses a STEEL shaft??? Hmmm. Anyway, this Callaway is IDENTICAL in shape, club head weight and overall feel as compared to my 1960's Persimmon. This club is a classic and hits like one. Shorter back swing, smooth-weighted feel equals 250+ all day long. SWEET. If you are a good golfer, you should grab one...if you want to be a good one, buy one.

Bought a 10 degree regular shaft for my wife for her birthday. She flew the ball 212 yards, measured with laser rangefinder. After she did this a couple more times I demanded to hit it. Although the club did not match any of the specifications I like, (I swing a Titleist 975J-VS with a Grafalloy shaft specially made for Titleist) the ball flew with a strangely flat trajectory and went a long way. I did have to swing a little different given that it had a regular shaft, but I was absolutely amazed. I hit it a few more times and was told that it was her club and not mine.

This driver produces a penetrating low spin ball flight for me when I hit it well. I don't find it to be the most consistent club I've ever hit though. Off-center shots have a clangy feel and lose a considerable amount of distance. I just wish Callaway could make a driver as easy to hit as the Steelhead + 3 wood. The 3 wood is the primary reason why I bought the Callaway driver. After hitting a friend's new Cobra monster driver, I've been contemplating getting a new driver. I just don't think I could effectively maintain any manhood with a 500cc driver though.

I hit it roughly the same distance than the VFT, but the different is that you have FEEL and WEIGHT with the Steelhead. I found that the club gives the weight that is consistent with the rest of my set of clubs. The modern light feel drivers (VFT, C4 etc) are very good for smashing the ball a mile, but you have little idea if you've put a good swing on it, so you don't know how to adjust your swing on the next tee if needed. I think a light headed driver can stuff up your timing. Have you ever wondered why if you drive well you don't seem to hit your irons well? Buy the steelhead if you want a driver that is consistent and won't cause you to swing inconsistently between irons and the driver.

I just purchased this club with a Dynamic Gold S300 steel shaft and 10degrees of loft. I am generally a high ball hitter and would normally use a driver with about 8.5degrees of loft. This club is outstanding with the DG shaft. Of course steel hits the ball a little lower than titanium to begin with, but the trajectory on this club is perfect for me in lieu of the amount of loft. I love playing my normal shot which is a draw. This club is almost too easy to draw. I still have a TaylorMade Ti300 w/a DG S300 shaft in 8.5deg. The Taylormade wont be seeing any action any time soon.(Anyone looking for a Ti300 with a steel shaft?) The difference in distance between the two clubs is minimal if any. I average about 275 off the tee and have no problem keeping this club in that range and in the fairway.

Model Reviewed: Steelhead III 11* steel shaft

I traded in my C4 hoping to get a little more consistency with the steel shaft, plus I already had the 4 and 7 woods in the Steelhead III and love them. After I figured out that I didn't have to tee this ball up high like the C4, the performance has been strong and consistent. The surprising thing is that I haven't lost any distance, in fact this is one of the longest hitting drivers I have owned, which I don't understand. It has a steel shaft which is shorter than most graphite shafts and it isn't as lightweight as a graphite driver. I think there has been a lot of marketing thrown at us that doesn't always ring as true as one would be lead to believe. Anyway, back to the review. Great driver, the face gets marked up quickly but appears durable (like my old Steelhead Plus) and I love the sound it has when striking the ball. Affordable driver that delivers the goods, just like the SHIII fairway woods, which is just what I was hoping for.

I absoloutly love the callaway steel head 3 driver. I can now drive the ball 302 yards. With an old titelist driver I only drove 230. The thing I like most about the club is it is so forgiving. i chose a full length 9 degree flexible steel shaft and i am hitting marvelously with the club. I would recomend it to anyone who is an experianced golfer or an amateur.

When I got this driver and i swung it a few times it felt great but once i hit some balls with it it wasnt so great after all. I had a big slice and if you dont hit the ball solid each time thats what your gonna get. I wouldnt recommend this club to a mid to high handicapper because every single shot of the tee will be a slice unless you hit it in the sweetspot and your club face is square. I would recommend get the Ping i3 Driver or the Taylor Made 360 Ti Driver over the Steel Head III because all i think it is is a usless piece of steel. I regret even wanting it.

Like some of the other reviewers I was reluctant to use a driver off the tee. Since I received my gift of the Steelhead III 10 degree driver I am back in the game. Always had a control and accuracy issue with drivers but this club is so forgiving.... Even bad shots are still in play.

I tried these woods while demoing the x-14 irons at my club. I used to leave my woods in the bag (old Callaway GBB) and hit a 2 iron off the tee. I decided to try the Steelhead III woods that were in the bag with the x-14's and "oh - what a feeling". I hit the five iron off the tee dead straight and 230. The set only had the Driver and the 5 wood, but that's all I needed. I have since purchased a 5 wood and a 3 wood. I have not purchased a Driver yet on the advice of my local pro. I hit a 270 yard three wood dead straight during my first round with these new woods. If this keeps up, I know my handicap will come screeming down. I love these clubs. The irons are different story however.
