I traded away the Cleveland launcher for the Callaway steelhead III and have no regrets.IMO it is very forgiving, iseem to be about 15 yards longer on solid contact drives compared to the launcher. And the smaller head seems to give more confidence at address. It is well worth the money invested. |

This club is as long as any club out there. The steel shafted driver hits it with good control and nice distance. I can keep the ball in play much more often now. Had TM 320 and was a good club just needed to update to something new. Customer Service none Similar Products Used: Taylor Made 320 Tour Edge BAzooka 320J |

callaway s/h 3 driver, uniflex steel
Like many of the folks in other reviews, I've been through every driver on the market. TaylorMade Ti2 and 300's, Ping TiSi, Orlimar HipTi, etc. Being a large individual (6'6" and 250 lbs), distance is not a problem off the tee but penalty strokes were causing those as 90's and sometimes 100's (ouch) posted above. Although I've only played for 3 full years, I play 3-4 times per week, weather permitting and am capable of competetive scores. I decided to go back to basics, S/H III steel shafted driver with 9 degrees of loft. The club is very accurate and I attribute scores now in the 80's to the loss of those aforementioned penalty strokes. True, an errant swing still produces errant shots, no club will fix that, but not to the same extent as with the new breed of trampoline-faced drivers. The lighter, titanium woods definitely turn hooks or slices into out of bounds and provisional balls off the tee costing you precious strokes when you tally up the score card. I highly recommend this wood to anyone looking for a reasonable facsimile of consistency. It feels great and the sound when hit flush off the first tee turns heads from the practice green!!! Leave the $300 Titleists and Cobras to the select few that can keep them in play. For those of us that simply want to hit the ball off the tee then locate it to hit it a second time, this is the driver for you. For any question on distance, I've dialed up several 300+ yard pokes w/this puppy but the harder you swing it, the greater the chance of a poor result. Be happy to keep it 250-280. Check e-bay for great deals. I just bought the 4+ wood for $120, brand new. Customer Service Never used with any of my Callaway products. Have only hit this club into an indoor net, but really liked the crisp, explosive sound and feel of the ball coming off the club face. I recently purchased the remake of the original Steelhead --a 10 degree driver and a 3 wood both with the steel shaft, and just love them. I like the III's and the original Steelhead much better than the Plus's, and you really can't go wrong with either. I do like the heavier feel and livelier performace of the steel shafts versus the graphite, and it's nice to hear other reviewers have discovered or rediscovered the joys of steel. I must admit I felt brainwashed into thinking that steel shafts were old tech, and akin to crusty, heavy crowbars relative to graphite. Not so. In fact, despite their shorter length, I still get the same distance, and steel shafts just feel more powerful than graphites to me. Anyhow, I would recommend a 10degree driver, because Calloway makes the higher lofted ( 11 and 12 degree) drivers with a closed face--I prefer a square face or just slightly closed as is the 10 degree at half a degree closed. I would feel good to know that I saved someone some heartache(as well as financial ache) from ordering a higher lofted driver, only to have it arrive and discover that the face is much too closed for thier liking. In closing, If, like me ,you have been using graphite shafted woods for years--I would recommend revisiting steel shafts--I've pretty much cured topping my fairway wood shots just from switching to the slightly heavier steel shafts Similar Products Used: Mizuno Blue Rage#5wood(don't buy-shots go off to the right) |

Steelhead III: 9 degree, strong
Most forgiving driver I have ever played. No doubt the 44" length and strong shaft help with consistency and accuracy. Hits as far as any titanium driver I have used. (I am 5' 10", 165 lbs., 57 years old, normally use stiff shafts, and find the strong shaft to be perfect.) The 3 and 5 woods are equally good. I've been using my old Powerbuilt Persimmon 3 wood to drive with for several years. My partner finally told me to "be a man" and use a real driver. So, I tried out the Steel head III (10 degree). And, for the first time in years I broke 100. This is the first real driver that I could hit with some consistency; amazing! So, I bought it, ouch! a bit pricey! And, I may even get their 3 wood too. |

You will thank yourself for buying this club. I hit a Callaway warbird, steel shaft for over 6 years. SemiConsistently 270 to 290. Picked up the Steelhead III and I am knocking the living s h i t out of the ball. The other day, 320 yard drive on a par 5, pulled out the 5iron from 205 on the green. First eagle I ever had. "Consistently" 290+ now. Customer Service Good Similar Products Used: Callaway Warbird Memphis 10 Shaft |
