I was using a Titleist 975D and hitting it well and straight. Thought I would try the new Taylor Made 320 and lost distance and accuracy. Traded the Taylor Made back in for the Callaway VFT. Several years ago I used the Callaway GBB and loved the driver - very accurate and forgiving on off center hits; however the distance was not the greatest. Since I was looking for accuracy and a few more yards in my new driver, I thought I would try Callaway again. So I bought the VFT. Once I got it home I checked it out on Golf Club Review and I got nervous. I thought I had brought home a lemon after reading the review - until I hit it. WHAT A GREAT DRIVER. I hit it straight and very long [290-310 yards]. When I missed the sweet spot it felt like it should when you miss the sweet spot but I only lost 15-20 yards in length and 5-10 yards in direction. Althought it has a "draw" face I found no problem working the ball left to right or right to left. It was easier to work right to left. The feel of the Titleist 975D is slightly better than this club but not by much. Perhaps the VFT is more of a "players" club who tend to hit the ball relatively straight or with a slight fade. Those who tend to hit a draw might find that this club will cause their shots to draw more than they can handle. I love this club and it far and away is better than the other drivers that I have tried. Great club Callaway - I am back with you.

I tried the VFT out a couple of times in the simulator (I don't know how accurate it was) and the VFT hit the ball the farthest for me. I also hit the TM 320 in the same place and I didn't quite get the results that I expected. I personally thought that the VFT was more forgiving than that of the 320, but everyone has some type of diffenent swing that another, so that, I think, is why so many people prefer the VFT or the 320 to the other. I also hit a Titleist and Ping driver, both of which had the same loft but were higher higher in the air. Both were short of the distance of the VFT by up to 20 yards. IF you want to hit the VFT higher in the air, just come down on the ball more... it's not that difficult. All in all, I thought this (VFT) was a good driver, but I'm not about to spend money on anything right now.

Best club Callaway has made yet. They had a problems with the steelheads and orginal Hawk eye. This club is like the Titleist 975D but is much, much more forgiving. The lower ball flight is perfect, like the 975D. The forgiveness is as good as other Callaway products. You do not need to hit it flush as some would lead you to believe. I was all the face and got the same results every time. The lenght is long and the new shaft is not a wimpy as other Callaway models. I spoke to Callaway and they suggested going up one degree if you want a higher ball flight than.

Awesome club. Very forgiving, long and a newer more boring ball flight. This is better than the original Hawkeye. Only complaint is the price. When will some company bust the Callaway mimimun prices.

Customer Service

Had other clubs refinished by Callaway, wow, they look brand new. Other service is excellent.

VFT, 12 Degree, Regular Flex. I tried the club, liked it and order it from a local pro shop. Given several deliver dates from early Jan to Mar 13. The club was never shipped and Callaway keeps changing the delivery dates. My Hawkeye irons were supposed to be 2 degrees flat. When they were checked by a certified club maker only one out of eleven irons had the correct loft and lie. Also the shafts ranged from senior to stiff. I'll never buy another Callaway product.

Customer Service

Customer Service is a misnomer. They never provided me any service, only a 1-800 number and no answer to my questions.

This club is great. It has a lower ball flight then the orginal Hawkeye. Another surprise is that the ball rises as it goes downrange, which is strange due to the lack of grooves on the sweet spot. This club goes straight, no more slight draw. It also is evry bit as foirgiving as the orginal. The distance is also increase slightly as more roll is derived from the lower ball flight. This club is an improvement over the orginal, I owned the original, but sold it after hitting this club. The price is high, but price will soon be forgotten when you drive better on the course.

Customer Service

Callaway has always treated me right. They seem to be very concerned with your desires.

I have just recently gotten the new Callaway VFT. I am only 17 but I play a lot of golf and I have just been sponsered by Callaway. When it was first sent to me I didn't like it to much but after about an hour at the range with it I was hitting it around 20 yards farther then my Titliest. I think it is an amazing driver and I really look forward to playing with it in some upcoming tornaments. It is very forgiving I think and it doesn't at all give the ball a low trajectory. If anything it really hits the ball high. When you hit a good drive with it, the ball feels as though it explodes off the driver. You can really hit some long ones with it. Buy it!!

Personally I am a big Callaway fan. I squeezed 19 strokes off of my handicap in the last two years thanks to Callaway (I have been playing for 8 yrs).
With that said, I will say that when I first change clubs, whether it be from the Big Bertha, to the Great Big Bertha, to the Greatest Big Bertha, to the Hawkeye, to the VFT, I always have seriour buyers remorse during the first 4 to 6 weeks of play. I don't hit the ball as far, I tned to hook or slice it more, and I loose about 25-30 yards. Until I get used to the club I usually hate it at first, this has been the case every single time.
I just purchased the VFT 8* two weeks ago. The first week I hated it. This week I am beginning to like it because I am learning how to hit the club. It will take me a couple of weeks before I get used to it, just like anyone else should expect. I am already seeing marked improvements this week as I am learning how to "work" the ball a little more. When I first bought the VFT my friends thought I was crazy because I was hitting the Hawkeye 285 - 310 and straight as an arrow every time. Now I expect the same + more from the VFT. For those frustrated individuals who just shelled out the bucks for a VFT..........be patient! As with any club you must learn how to hit it again. TRUST ME.

I have been building clubs for 10 years from components. I have found high quality components to be much better than OEM clubs. Primarily because the shafts are better and they are set up for an individuals swing. I just got a VTT which is a slightly better component than the VFT according to the manufacturer. It is a 335 cc forged Titanium variable thickness technology head. It looks very simalar to the Callaway VFT so I was a little worried about all the negative press the VFT was getting. I just built this club with the Aldila HM2000 Tour 65 S shaft and tried it out today. All I can say is WOW! This is by far the best club I have ever hit, bar none! The shaft is excellent, very tight with nice feel. I warmed up and hit a half bucket of my best drives ever. I was able to work the ball quite well and hit dead straight and long on any miss-hits. I asked a guy that was hitting next to me to try it (I could see him spraying balls all over the range) and let me know what he thought. He hit the first one right off the heel and it went 200 yds straight! He hit two more drives right down the middle and long. He then asked where I got it and when I explained he wanted to buy it. I just ordered the components to make one for him in R flex. Anyway the HM2000 is definitely a winner and if the Callaway VFT is not, I sure don't understand why. Perhaps like many OEM clubs the shaft is just not well suited to the head. This component clone is A+ and it gives me the forgiveness I need. When I miss I tend to hit high or low on the face. I didn't see much change at all in my ballflight or distance on high and low hits.

I have read all the past reviews of this stick and can see that many love it or hate it. The VFT does set up with a closed face and must be hit in the middle of the face for dsc (dead solid contact). It does produce a trajectory which is penetrating and very long to say the least when hit in the center of the club face.

I have many fellow competitive scratch and plus handicap players who cannot hit this club if their life depended on it - they play mostly the Titleist 975 or the Ping ISI. For me personally I don't like the feel of the 975 and I hit the Ping ISI okay.
My current driver is the Callaway Hawkeye w/ the UST65 stiff shaft - a wonderful combination for me. If you currently have a Callaway that puts you into the junk to the right with a dead fade, swap out the .25 cent shaft in the Callaway with a UST or other good shaft and things will turn for the better. See you local golf shop or club repair man.

I tried the TM320 and the TM300 - Didn't at all like the 300, the 320 8.5 was nice but you could use it as a fourth wedge as it hit the ball very high, but was not even close in distance to the VFT even when hit on the screws - about 20-30 yards behind.
But you must be near the sweet spot in the VFT. If you are not, the shot feels weak but does not hurt you in accuracy compared to the older Callaway woods hit near the toe.
The Lord blessed me with great hand eye coordination and I hit the center 95% of the time. We all hit them in the junk - no driver will eliminate this.

I just bought the 9 degree VFT with the UST Pro 65s shaft and it is a rocket ship. Like most players the tee shot is the one that makes or breaks a round. I am scratch and am always looking for improvement off the tee. This may not be the stick for everyone, but take it out with all the other over priced clubs and hit them. Watch ball flight, roll and the feel and feedback of the all the clubs.
All the clubs are over priced. Massive advertising campaigns, engineering and professional payoffs and endorsements sap your wallet - get used to it. You cry and wail at the cost of golf clubs but you give Uncle Sam thousands in taxes and don't revolt.
