Callaway ERC Fusion Drivers

Callaway ERC Fusion Drivers

DESCRIPTION

ERC Fusion Drivers have internal weighting that is more evenly spread across the perimeter of the clubhead, which works with a square face angle to help golfers produce a straight, repeatable ball flight.

there isnt really anything not to like about this club. as far as distance and ball flight i feel your shaft flex and kick point have alot to do w/ that as well. But in my case when i hit this thing on the button my right ear rings. i have had a grafalloy blue put on it in a s flex but the club is shaved down 1.5 inches so it actually grades out to an x flex. for me personally i hit the ball far enoughand the added accuracy of the x helped tremedously. swing speed 105-110. avg carry 265-275. total avg dist. 275-290. i have read on here how people suddenly draw this club naturally. i however found it to be the fairest club i have ever swung it goes where u hit it. on good days i have no problems working the ball in either direction. look w/ todays titanium drivers it is a feel process because the ball is going to fly if u hit it rght. but all the drivers i demo'd none made the sound this thing did when hit on the button. im talking stopped traffic type of explosion. and by the way if anyone is ever going to by a club i am not really sure why anyone would not buy one from ebay. itll save a ton of money.

Bought on ebay for a $200 what a steal, lefty so not many bids. Have played 2 rounds so far and must say that this club is fantastic. With a big wind in my face I was still able to hit it 230. It just pierced the wind. Lower trajectory certainly helped as well. Sold my BB2 for this and don't agree that the BB is easier to hit, a mishhit with either is a wash, nut I just love the sound and smaller CC head.

Great club. i tested this and the r7 out on the driving range. and surprising enough, my average was like 240 and maximum distance was 300. and that might i add was with a ladies flex. this club really puts a knuckle ball feel on the ball, causing it to roll forever. a fine quality. now the r7 was not as good as i was only hitting max 250. maybe i was the setting, i dont know and i dont care. treat yourself to an excellent driver that does everything you can imagine. oh and it cause the ball to fly as straight as an arrow

Customer Service

not bad. got the club at target lines. they were not to helpful but just enough to squeek by.

Model Reviewed: ERC Fusion Pro Series

Reviewing an ERC Fusion 10.5 Pro Series (1 degree open), Aldila NV 65 stiff flex. Doesn't it always come down to the the shaft? For me, the NV rocks. For you??? Get tested. The ERC Fusion as stated by other contributors truly delivers the knuckleball and offers a rather healthy trajectory that leans towards high. I love the feel off the face. The club carries forever. On my home course which is made up of Poa Annua grass (those in the know are aware that Poa courses are notoriously stingy when it comes to roll). The ERC offers lots of carry. I would agree that for those trying to find the sweet spot and and are not consistent may benefit from a larger head like the GBB II 415 or a Cleveland 460. Still the ERC Fusion has a fair bit of technology behind it. I am not of the belief that either the Pro series (God help the high handicapper with an open face in his hand) or the regular Fusion is a club of choice due to head size (360 cc). Consistent swingers looking for a refined tool vs. a sledgehammer will love this club. It's long in the hands of everyone that Ihave seen hit it who has a consistent swing and a nightmare for those who are praying at the top of their backswing!

Customer Service

They used to be the best, yet I had some difficulty with them of late. Took 4 weeks to get a reshaft. But true to form, they offered compensation.

I just learned why Tiger and Ernie recently went to the Royal and Ancient with their concerns over the new technology. This driver is a much better driver than I am. I opted for the 10 degree because I need a slightly lower launch and don't like the closed face on several of the Fusion models. There's a good argument that manufacturers shouldn't offer closed face drivers, for several reasons. When we see a face pointing to the left of our intended target, we start to compensate in our set up and later, in our swing. The likely result, it seems to me, is a mess. Golfers need to be encouraged to swing on a good inside plane, and clubs designed to minimize a slice merely encourage golfers to stick with the bad swing plane that is hurting them with their driver and every other club in the bag. The Fusion definitely sounds different. Funny good or funny ha-ha, you might ask? Funny good; it sounds slightly hammer-like, which is nice music coming from a club designed to hammer a golf ball. Which it does. It definitely launches lower than other drivers I have used. Miss slightly but on a good inside-out path and you will see more roll than you've witnessed from any other driver. My previous misses flew 19O and sometime rolled only ten yards more. My new misses fly 195 and roll at least 30 yards. I look very forward to toting this to Scotland next July and learning what happens on those hard links fairways. Great and confidence-inspiring look at set up. Also love the smaller head, which doesn't look like the phone books they're putting on the Ignite, among other clubs. And there's a sense of weightlessness in the club that inspires the feeling that you can generate great clubhead speed with little effort. It is not a significantly longer driver, by the way, at least on relatively soft fairways. You aren't likely to add even five yards of carry with it over any of ten other $250 and over drivers available. The Fusion's virtue is not its carry but your new dispersion pattern; you will spend far less time in the rough, left or right. In that sense you will be effectively longer with this club because you will be nearer the center of the fairway, and also will lose less distance to sidespin on slices and hooks. Try it will you can. Ernie and Tiger have a good case; these clubs are making it too easy for average ball-strikers to get excellent results, and for excellent strikers to win major tournaments without major tournament swings.

Great club...bought mine used with an Aldila shaft and I get tremendous distance (Avg 270-290 now...up 25 yards from, my old Quadpro). But the playability/forgiveness of this driver is what I like most...I can fade, draw with this driver and not worry about severe pushes or hooks...bad shots are MUCH less hazardous thn athey were before I had this club. It's very forgiving. I wouldn't have paid $500-550 for it, but I got mine used for $325..a lucky deal and worth every penny

This a a jekyl and hyde driver, capable of incrediably long drives, or,without warning a viscious snap hook. The club has a wonderful swing weight that promotes an aggressive swing through the ball. Unfortunately, I find that even the slightest over-activity of my hands closes the club's face resulting in a hook. Sound and feel with impact is dull, not unpleasant, but certainly unlike steel and titanium clubs...at times it's difficult to tell if you've hit the sweet spot. Buyers should be aware that non-whole number lofts (eg 9.5) indicate a slightly open face. To those that can consistently control dispersion, this is a long hitting, powerful driver. I will probably return to the Ping Si380 or Nicklaus Airmax which, although shorter hitting, allow me to more consistently hit the fairway.

Club was smaller than I expected. It looks like the smallest head of all the big name drivers currently on the market. This could be considered good if the head had a more traditional look. In this case, the head has an even more pronounced egg shape than other Callaways and there's also a visible space on the crown between the titanium face and the graphite back which I didn't care for. The club is long no question, with a relatively high flight, very distinctive "knuckle ball" look to it. Shots can get out of hand with this club and control becomes an issue. I think I'd wait for Callaway to come out with an enivatble 2nd generation of this model before making it my "go to" driver.

I was custom fitted for this driver. What a lot of people don't know is the weight in the ERC can be moved around specifically for your swing if you have it cusom fitted from a Callaway authorized custom fitter. This helps create the perfect "knuckleball", very little side or backspin, which makes the ball go farther and straighter. I hit two types of drives with this club--a miss, which goes relatively straight and still with very good distance. Or a ball hit squarely, which goes forever, like a whole different league and I am not a long ball hitter. This driver is awesome.

Customer Service

Did not need it.

I also tried the Taylor Made R7. Let me tell you, the last thing I want is to alter the ball flight. My usual ball flight is a draw. I played in a tournament the other day and under a little pressure I played a fade all day, which worked out ok. If I had the R7, and I had the weight turned the wrong way and then got on the course I would have been all messed up. Trust me, find the drvier that creates the knuckleball and stick with it.

Put an Aldila NV shaft in the Fusion and it's the best damn driver available. I hit 12 of 14 fairways this weekend with the 10.5 degree Fusion Driver. It has a hot piercing trajectory, is longer than anything I've hit in the past, and is very accurate. The Fusion works best with low compression golf balls like the Maxfli Noodle, or Precept Laddie / Lady. It's a very hot driver. You need a consistent swing to hit the 365 CC sweet spot, and you need to swap out the crappy Callaway stock shaft.
