Callaway ERC Fusion Drivers

Callaway ERC Fusion Drivers

DESCRIPTION

ERC Fusion Drivers have internal weighting that is more evenly spread across the perimeter of the clubhead, which works with a square face angle to help golfers produce a straight, repeatable ball flight.

I usually play high 70's or low 80's, lately more in the low 80's. The fact that i have been drifting ever more into the 80's has caused me to try some new clubs. I have tried as many as i can get my hands on, and i work at a golf store, so they are almost at my disposal. Very few have impressed me, the fusion is without a doubt one of the few. The feel at impact is like no other, including the other comp heads. It feels effortless to swing, and it puts the ball out there with all the heavy hitters. Easy to square (i was hitting the open face version). I could not find anything negative to say about this club with a search light! Now i must decide between this and the r7...

Definately an imporvement over my old Callaway Steelhead Plus driver all around. If you manage to hit the sweet spot, drives are really long, but otherwise they just stop dead. The lightweight allows for a fast swing and the medium sized head allows for reasonable forgiveness. I'd rather a Titleist 983k though.

Let me start by saying that I think this is a great driver. It is like the C4 in that its lightness helps in the generation of good clubhead speed and also like the GBBII in general play performance. It is longer than either ot them. It is easy to control the ball's trajectory and flight characteristics but also forgiving in that small striking errors are not exaggerated. All this is accomplished with a relatively small (by today's standards) clubhead that produces great confidence during set up. BTW, I tried the Cleveland Launcher 460, Nike Ignite 410, Titleist 983K and Taylor Mades--and the Fusion beats them all in friendliness and playability. Strike noise? A muted 983K sound, not as muted as the C4, very pleasing and not over the top--let's face it, the ear-numbing garbage can clanging characteristics of some other recent offerings are very unappealing and border on embarassing. I can recommend this club for anyone who has had success with Callaway drivers, who is comfortable with a somewhat smaller clubhead and who likes a good sense of being in control of the drive. It is a costly club, but if you can trade up, go for it (I did).

I demoed this today while my Taylormade r510 was getting reshafted and to be honest I didn't see much difference in the two. Actually I prefer the Taylormade. When you nail the sweet spot on the ERC it goes and will run forever, but if you miss the ball looks like it has a parachute attached to the back holding it back towards the tee and slowing it down. I'd choose my Taylormade r510 I paid $150 for brand new over this $500 driver.

I'm a 16 handicap, been playing for 6 years. The ERC Fusion is a hot, piercing driver. I took out the Nike Ignite, and Cleveland Launcher, along with the ERC Fusion. The ERC Fusion has a lower trajectory, and more roll than the Nike or Cleveland drivers. The ERC Fusion is also more forgiving than either the Nike or Celeveland drivers. For the folks that like a heavier headed driver, the ERC Fusion is for you. The weighting in the Fusion feels like you're really pounding the cover off the ball. I felt the Ignite was 10-15 yards longer than the Fusion, but I'll take the more forgiving of the two. The Nike is a nice choice as well though. My average drives with the Fusion were 265 - 275. Respectable for a double digit handicap. The Fusion kept me out of automatic penalty points off the tee, which allowed me to shoot well this weekend. If you typically hit a low drive, you may opt to add a degree or two on the ERC fusion. The 10 degree hits trajectories like a typical 8.5 degree driver. The Fusion is a very hot, solid, and forgiving driver.

This is an excellent driver. I thought it would be a gimmick before I tried it out. It actually works. Some might need a heavier shaft because it is light and swings very easily. Doesn't look like the 360cc that it is. I hated to give up my VFT, but the choice was simple....

I got my Callaway ERC Fusion (0.83 COR, Callaway stock shaft system 55 regular)the other day and have tried it now three days in a row. It performs extreemly well for me at all the times a used it. I have hit over 300 balls with it and its very nice. In this review i compare it to my old Titleist 983k (0.83 COR, graphite design stiff flex) Looks: Both drives look extreemly well, Feel like i can hit drives to the moon with both of them. Nice finish on both of them. Sound: The Fusion is a bit boring here. It stil got the metallic sound but its not nearly as crisp as with the Titleist. Accuracy: Both drives are very easy to shape your shots with. I have no problemes hiting both fades and draws with both of them. When it comes to hiting fairys I think the Titleist is a bit more accurate. I hit 20 balls with each drives and found 16 with titleist on the fairway and 14 with the ERC. I feel that the ERC is more forgiving on miss hits. Length: Dont know if the Callaway shaft fits my swing better but it sure as hell out performs the Titleist with 30 yards per drive at the 20 in the accuracy test above. The longest fusion drive was about 315yards. (my swing speed is about 105mph) Feel: The feeling of hiting a ball with the Fusion is much more solid than with the 983k. Feel like you get all the weight behind the ball with the fusion. The Titleist is more like your averange driver(eg Taylor made 580 or similar) Conclusion: I will used the Fusion from now on. The Titleist is more accurate but the feel and performance of the Fusion wins my heart. If you got the money, buy a Fusion. I wouldnt recommend this drive to player with handicap 18 or above.

killer driver very solid @ impact can feel club head all the way through swing. Have NV65 stiff shaft 9* square face. You can work this driver L-R, R-L. It really goes LONG..................... I hit it farther than I did the 983K, and the Launcher 400. Head size is perfect @ 360CC. NV65 shaft is the bomb. Swing as hard as you want or as slow as you want....just connect and watch it fly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! grip it and rip it is all I have to say about it.

After finally getting lessons, my swing is a lot more consistant and my review should reflect as a mid/high handicap golfer. - The bad: it's not as forgiving with it's head size, and not as powerful a driver as everyone says. Annika gained 30+ yards on her drives, but that's about 90% HX tour ball. True the head is forgiving for it's size, but at 360ish it's designed low/mid handicappers. All in all I thought the GBBII beat it in every category and left you enough money to buy a box of HX tours. Then you hit it on the screws it still comes up short on the virtual monitor. Overall, if you're a shape shooter with a lot of money, go for it. I'd take the titleist 983E anyday.

Customer Service

The guys at the demo tent were very helpful. It's my impression from them that the Fusion will end up like the C4 in a couple of years when the tour guys drop it for the next gimmick.

I would say that if you are in the market for a new driver, give the Fusion a look. I demoed one with 9.5 degrees of loft and the Aldila NV 65 S shaft and found it to be very forgiving. I have a swing speed of around 105mph and tend to hit a slight fade on my drives. Recently at the place where I buy my golf stuff, they had a Callaway fitting day and I attended hoping to gain some insight as to what driver I might eventually purchase. We started off with the Fusion and then moved to the GBBII, the GBBII 415 and finally the new Big Bertha Titanium. My best results were acheived with the GBBII 415 10 and the Big Bertha Titanium 10. The moral of story is get yourself fitted using a launch monitor. I believe that if I had a swing speed of 115mph, I may have acheived my best results with the Fusion, but with a swing speed of only 105mph, I was lauching it a bit low, even a 10 degrees. Give the Fusion a try and if you like it, get the results of your optimal lauch angle tested using a launch monitor and then make your decision.

Customer Service

The Callaway rep, helped me to rectify my hitting of the ball towards the heel of the club (ball too far back in stance) in order to give me the truest results for my launch angle. If there is better customer service, I haven't found it yet.
