Today I spent two hours with a golf pro in the golf simulator trying all today's hottest drivers. The $70,000 golf simulator said my clubhead speed was consistently over 140mph, the trajectory was consistently under 13 degrees, and the ball was consistently in the 225-240 range - remarkably good data for a beginner golfer like myself!!! Especially interesting, it had the highest average clubhead speed, lowest trajectory, and best accuracy of any other driver. Note, not the longest drives (some Bazooka used club averaged a little more distance but the shots were all over the place). The C4 makes a strange impact sound like you're whacking lumber, but the computer data doesn't lie: for my swing and skill level, the C4 exceeded the GBB2 and all the other popular, top of the line equipment available today. And it is 1/2 the price to boot! Actual range testing confirmed the computer's prediction for accuracy, etc, except I was getting the ball out beyond the 250 yead flag with the roll. Hooray!!

Customer Service

I haven't used Callaway's customer service yet.

I tried just about all the popular clubs including titleist, taylor made, bazooka, cleveland. Ping Si3 and GBB2 are almost as good for 2.5 times the price!!

Model Reviewed: Callaway C4 9 degree Firm shaft

Sound, what sound? The sweetest sound in golf is the sound of a well struck Persimmon Wood, the real wood kind. I just had my MacGregor 1960 Persimmon Wood refaced and refinished because of that sound. I wanted my sons to be able to hear what a "real" wood sounded like. I have even considered buying Louisville Golfs Persimmon Woods so I would always have one around to hit when I wanted to hear that sound. That said, I recognize that technology has advanced and that new clubs are MUCH more forgiving, so when I tried a new C4 and heard the sound it made I was in heaven. It's not quite the sound of a Persimmon Wood, but its close enough for me to use everyday! It is more forgiving than my Deep Red and at least as long, with a more penetrating ball flight, even though my Deep Red is a 7.5 degree club. It is more forgiving than my Cobra 8.5 degree and longer. It is more forgiving and longer than my friends 8 degree Big Bertha. It is, so far, the most forgiving club I have hit and maybe the longest. The day I bought it I also hit the 425 cc Deep Red, the 580 Taylormade, the Cobra 427SS, and the new 460cc Adams. I liked them all, but I kept going back to the C4, so I bought it. I'll be playing six rounds in Palm Springs starting the 24th, my first warm weather golf this year, and I am now almost jumping out of my skin to get there! If my opinion changes after playing the TPC Stadium, Mountain course, Desert Dunes etc. I will repost here.

Customer Service

None so far, but I have heard that C4's can't be reshafted. I suspect that Callaway will find a way to make it up to anyone who needs a new shat due to breakage.

this as stated is the most forgiving driver i have ever owned(and i have owned a few).you will get used to the noise it makes just give it time. this review is for all owners of the C4,or potential owners.i made the mistake by getting a firm shaft in my driver, phoned callaway customer service and asked them how much will they charge to reshaft the club with a regular shaft.now comes the warning.THE C4 IS THE ONLY DRIVER ON THE MARKET THAT CANNOT BE RESHAFTED.if you require a new or replacment shaft you will have to buy a new driver(this comes from callaway customer service themselves)so callaway have built a driver that cannot be reshafted and nobody i have talked to(local pga pro)knew this.GREAT GOING CALLAWAY.

I used the C4 first in California on a trip when I borrowed it from a friend. I hit 13 of 14 fairways that day, and the only reason I missed the 14th was because I drove the ball throught the dogleg fairway. The C4 is amazingly easy to hit. I always know where it's going to go. The only reason they are so cheap is because Callaway messed up on the advertising campaign and didn't push it hard enough. However, since the clubhead is graphite when you hit it it sounds like you used a 2 by 4. This doens't effect play so I don't care.

The Callaway Big Bertha C4 is by far the most forgiving driver I have hit in a long time. In addition to better control, the ball explodes off the club face. This club has added 15 to 20 yards to my drives.

This is a great buy, especially at $200 or less. Golf Galaxy sold it to me for $180 and is good for that price. The sound is not the greatest but who really cares! I care about accuracy, distance, and low scores. I've tried the NIKE driver. Not worth the money. Its mostly about your game, the driver is just a tool.

Customer Service

Ummm... who cares.

I have always had trouble in the past with Callaways, but when I tried this baby out I changed my mind instantly. I have never had a driver I could hit so straight, ok you lose 20 yards or so, a small price to pay for fantastic accuracy. Anyone who says this club is not good should quit golf and take up something else !!!!!!!!!

I bought this driver because of it's looks and feel. Unfortunately, I only hit it about 210 when my other drives were going about 285-300. This driver sucks! Do not buy this driver if you have a left to right ball flight.

Say what you want about the sound or look of the C4. All I can say is it is the most accurate driver I have ever used, and I am a major club "ho" (as they say). The distance I have experienced is fine for me as well. The club is a bit shorter than many I guess but I will take a 240-250 yard drive in the short grass 80% of the time over a 270-280 yard drive in the rough or next fairway 50% of the time on any day. I have been through so many OEM and component drivers looking for "the" driver that I am embarrassed to think of the money I have wasted. Make no mistake, the C4 may not have done well in sales for Callayway but it is a very accurate driver. They are dirt cheap on Ebay now so give it a try if you haven't done so already. By the way, I really like the more muted 'persimmon like' sound!

Model Reviewed: Callaway C4, 11deg. Firm

Bought the Callaway C4 despite my golf buddy telling me how horrible a club it is. According to him, it just didn't sell well because of its Carbon Composite construction. Numerous people were against this club just because of the track record of past CC clubs produced by other manufacturers (Yonex? Mizuno?). Anyway, feeling the need to take the road less travelled, i decided to buy one. I've always had trouble hitting my old 8.5deg and 9deg drivers from Integra and Acer, plus drivers like the TM360, Wilson Deep Red and Titleist 975. Maybe it was the price..i don't know. :) I thought i'd try the C4, since it was touted to be a very forgiving club. Besides, at CDN$300, it was a steal! I am glad to have purchased this club. I went to the range the day i bought it, and brought my skeptical golf buddy along. We were both impressed. Amazingly enough, the weight distribution on this club has helped me create a better swing for myself. My driving swing is now different, and for the better. I don't care about the sound, and i like the way the club looks. All that really matters is that my drives are straight and a consistent 250yds now. Can't wait for the new season to start in April.
