I was one of those people that immediately hopped onto the R7 bandwagon when it came out. I finally worked up the courage to get rid of it despite all of its great reviews by golf digest etc., so I went and tried out the BB 454, Cleveland Launcher 460 and Comp, Titleist 905t and 905s, Ping G2, Cobra 460SZ and 454 comp, Nike Ignite and the MacGregor Mactech NVG. After spending an hour hitting all of those I narrowed it down between the G2 and the 454. I really like the G2 but averaged 12 yards further and was about 15% more accurate with the Big Bertha 454 so I bought it and have played 5 rounds since getting it. I have gained 15-25 yards of distance over the R7 and am way more accurate. I love this club and I have owned tons of drivers. Definately check this club out.

Firm flex 454 10 degree. I used this club today as part of a demo set for a round at desert Pines GC in Las Vegas. I as used the Precept U-Tri Tour ball which I regularly use. I would say it is a nice club but nothing special. It has a good ook and is easy to aline at address. My regular driver is a launcher 400. I did not notice any more distance, forgiveness or accuracy over my 400. I made many good shots but most of the time I thought it would have traveled farther. Over it is a good club but not THE answer.

GR8 Club! Been in the market for a left hand driver for ages now and finally found a distributor that has a few for me to try. Have the luxury to try the Launcer 460 (11*), 983K (10*), and the 454 (10*). Believe you me, after reading all the wonderful comments here, I was at 1st torn between these 3 clubs but when I tried them, I was sold on the 454! Dont get me wrong, the Launcher is a GOOD club but was a tad too loud for my taste, and its too light for my liking. The 460cc head its too large at address too. The 983K eventhough its a good club, but I don't seem to have a good feel for it. For the 454, the head 454cc head is well disguised at address, but the face is super hot! I used to struggle to pass 220 meters with my old driver but with this baby, 250 meters is not a problem, and its soooooo straight! Would recomend it to golfers of any level!

Customer Service

have not got the chance to use them yet, but my 454 comes with 2 years warranty!

Model Reviewed: Callaway 454 9* Grafalloy Prolite 3.5S

After reading all the great reviews of the 905T and Callaway 454. I decided to give them both a try. I hit about 30 drives with the 905T 9.5 with a stiff Speeder shaft, and for the money, its definitely not worth it over the 983k to me. I then hit the Callaway with a Prolite 3.5S and fell in love after 2 drives. So i purchased a new 9* with a factory installed Grafalloy Prolite shaft 3.5S for $250 shipped. Just about any upgrade shaft and loft combo can be gotten on ebay for around $250.00 shipped. Dont let the size scare you. It sets up and hides it CC's well. The ball just jumps off the face and doesnt balloon at all. I can work the ball both ways, but its not as easy to work as my 983k. I can live with that, because its so long and forgiving. Its definitely the best driver Callaway has made to date. If your in the market, give this driver a try,you will not be disappointed!!! and the price is right on ebay.

Model Reviewed: Callaway 454 Driver with YS7 stiff shaft

I recently purchased the 454 after also testing the Ping G2 and Cleveland Launcher. The 454 8 degree loft replaces my Titleist 983K. For value ($299) and performance this club is unequaled. For an upcharge of $35 I upgraded the shaft to suit my swing characteristics. My swing speed averages 112-115 mph so I went with a stiffer shaft with mid/high kickpoint and lower torque. I think the right shaft is crucial in optimizing the performance of any driver, particularly if you're an aggressive swinger. I also went with an 8 degree loft given I'm tall and a high ball hitter. Most big headed clubs now launch high so choosing the correct loft and shaft is vitally important. I've played the same course for 20 years so I know where my best drives end up and this club is putting me 15-20 yards past that point. The ball comes off the clubface unbelievably fast and launches high without the ballooning affect of prior Callaway Drivers as evidenced by the carry I was getting even into a stong wind. I hit this driver into the wind as far as my best drives with the 983K with no wind. Downwind the carry was downright scary and given that the trajectory flattens out I also was experiencing good roll. This combination translated into LONG. In the past I was not a fan of the Callaway drivers and did not think I'd ever buy one, I had played exclusively with Titleist and TaylorMades. I didn't like their looks or their propensity to balloon which was death to an already high ball hitter. However, they got it right this time. I think Callaway did a good job in the aesthetic design of the club as it sets up well to the eye at address which yields confidence. It's a big clubhead but it's somewhat deceiving in that is doesn't look overly large at address, which I like. It doesn't look like a pancake at the end of a stick and you don't get a sense of it's size unless you hold it up to another club. It looks easy to hit, and it is. Not to mention how fun it is to hit those bombs. This is a forgiving club that I was hitting long and straight. I think low to high handicappers alike would do well with this club. Given the performance and price I can't imagine a better value in the driver market today. This is one time the old adage "you get what you pay for" isn't true...this is a high quality performance club at an affordable price.

Customer Service

I custom ordered the club and received it in 13 days. Very reasonable turnaround time.

Great club, the prolaunch shaft is definitly an upgrade from the stock shaft. Launch angle is high and the carry is awesome about 240 yards could not get a good sense of the roll the fairways were very wet from heavy rain. It seem to be at least 15 yards longer than the BBII with a stock shaft that it is replacing.

I have tried Taylor Mades, Cobras,Pings and Clevelands. But this 454 is by far the best I have ever hit. It is long and straight and has a great feel with just the right trajectory. My driver has a regular stock shaft with 11 degrees loft.

Customer Service

Never used, but I have confidence in this great company when I need them.

FINALLY, CALLAWAY GETS IT This club brings Callaway inline with the rest of the big name manufacturers, in that shots for the most part have that "high launch, low spin" look that's all the rage these days. Seems like all the Callaway drivers before this were "high launch, high spin" balloons. Why Callaway didn't make this club 3 years ago instead of the misfires with the graphite heads, small composite heads and GBB remakes, I have no idea. They did a nice job on the looks too so the 454cc head doesn't seem particularly bulky at address, and you really don't appreciate just how big it is until you set it next to a smaller club. I'm not one to care too much what the sound is like, but others have commented that they like it. Even though most of the old Callaway balloon look is gone, there's just enough that if the true "high launch, low spin" trajectory is optimal for you, you may hit a few other drives just a smidge farther. My club speed is 112 and I used to feel i was giving up some yards with Callaway because they were designed for speeds under 100, but I don't feel that way with the 454 (however, this is also attributable in some part to the Fujikura upgrade shaft too.) The ball gets up easily (just like all the other Callaways), but it flattens out a lot better with this club. Given the high launching face, I'd strongly recommend that higher swing players don't use stock Callaway shafts which are designed to encourage an even higher launch angle. One other thing that's promiment on this club is the slick feeling on the face: I don't know if that comes from the construction or because the face really is slicker to reduce spin, but the ball feels a bit slippery compared to other big name drivers. All things considered I'm likely to stick with this club because it's easy to hit, it's a big improvement over more recent Callaways and I think that at most I can pick up just a couple yards with whatever really is the optimal driver for me. I just really don't see having an all out bad day with the driver with this Club, and that right there is worth a lot.
