This driver made playing golf fun again! I took this club, stock RCH shaft R flex (btw, if you're 40 like me and don't swing over 90-92 mph, this shaft is quite good), directly to the course, NO RANGE WARM UP. This course plays ridiculously long, b/c it's always wet, having been built on what was a swamp....I've played it enough that I know what length approach shots to expect on every hole. I was playing a Cobra SS350 before, a good club...but not in the league w/ the Cally 454. I was AVERAGING 20 yards further down the fairway, from swing one! Simply amazing....no ballooning (a major problem w/ the Cobra); the face angle is square, which I love; a sufficiently high, but penetrating trajectory which flattens out quickly after the flight's apex, and you can actually get some roll, even on this wet course, that was impossible before the Cally. Simply the best driver I've ever hit, and I've hit most of them. |

I considered the 454 or cleveland launcher 460 when looking for a new driver. Once I hit the callaway, I was sold. I have noticed people actually stopping their practice at the range and just watching me hit bomb after bomb straight down the middle of the range. Best club I have ever hit by far, it is easily worked both ways and goes a mile. I have the aldila nv-65 stiff shaft and I love it. Everytime I step up to the tee I know I am going to crush this club does wonders for confidence. Anyone who pays 600.00 for an r-7 should have hit this first retail is 379.00 canadian and in my opinion is 10 times the driver the r-7 is. If you get the chance you have to try this club. Big Bertha 454 w/YS-6 stiff shaft
Unbelievable! Most forgiving driver I've played, and I've pretty much tried them all....Distance is as good as anything out there as well. The YS-6 shaft is perfect for my smooth tempo (swing speed 105), and accuracy has been much improved over my Ping G2. Best driver Callaway has ever made. Callaway Big Bertha 454 Ti 10* - Grafalloy Blue Stiff
This driver is AMAZING! By far the best I have ever put my hands on. I took it out for the first time today and could not believe the distance and accuracy. This driver absolutely crushes the ball, launches high, and flattens out for tremendous distance and roll. I have increased my distance by 20-30 yrds. and I am more accurate as well, which is most important. Warmed up with small bucket of range balls (aka "Rocks") and the sound at impact was a little loud for my taste, a real tingy echo.....made my ears ring on a couple of shots. Then, I put the Pro V1x into play on the course and the sound was much more pleasing. Never played a 10* prior, always an 8.5* or 9* in my driver. This loft combined with the awesome Grafalloy Blue Stiff shaft is the perfect combo for me (swing speed 105-110). The BLUE shaft has an incredible soft feel compared to other shafts I tried. This is a very light club and easy to swing. I highly recommend this driver for all types of players.....it will give you great confidence with the larger head and all you need to do is let the club do the work for you. Callaway 10* 454 Aldila NVS Regular
I definitely agree with Mr. Average regarding this club and the Aldila NV shafts. First of all, I have gone insane this past year trying all the different new drivers and must have owned a lot of them at some point in time. A lot of good drivers out there, starting with the 983K, the Launchers, Cobras and the R7Quad which I really liked. The Callaway 454 with the NVS 65 R shaft gave me the most distance and accuracy putting me straight down the fairway where I have never been before. The ball launches high and seems to just go forever before it lands and rolls, amazing combination. I had the R7 Quad with the Aldila NV 65 Reg 9.5 and the R7 HT with the same shaft and they were very accurate and powerful drivers as well but for me, it's the Big Bertha 454 with the NVS 65 shaft (swing speed is 95 mph). My last Callaway driver was the GBB titanium and I'm very glad to rediscover their products again. I liked it so much I am also now using the 2004 BB fairway woods which are also excellent. Finding the right equipment is very personal - it has to be the right look, feel and sound and different golfers look for different things but this club is definitely worth trying if you're in the market for a new 2005 driver. The price under $300 with the high end shafts as free options makes it a great value. I'll never pay for a $500 driver because I feel silly when I am having a bad driving day, just my opinion. Have a great golf season. Customer Service Super Efficient and Friendly - Callaway Customer Service was good 10 years ago when I had the original Big Bertha and are as good today, nice surprise in this world of voicemails to actually talk to a human being. Callaway Big Bertha 454 Driver
Having just purchased this Driver with the Aldila NV65 Stiff shaft option and 10 degree loft,I can say that after one round my initial feelings are that this is one hell of a golf club! The shaft took a couple of holes to come to terms with ( Stiff means stiff in this case, and the shaft is designed to promote a low launch angle)but once I knew where it was coming from my drives got better and better.Considering the weather was dull ,overcast and murky with sodden fairways, I was putting it out around the 270,280 yard mark with consistant ease, with seemingly little effort, and rewarded with the typical Callaway Titanium "Ting" sound.Just imagine the roll I will get in the summer on top of that airborn distance!! This is a very, very solid club, and the combination of the head with the Aldila shaft appears a perfect marriage. However I would urge people looking at this setup to try the regular NV shaft as well.My swing is quite quick and dare I say jerky, and seems to suit the stiff flex, but those of you out there with a smoother slower swing should try the lesser flex or even the Aldila NVS shaft which is designed to promote a higher ball flight and is available as a custom order from Callaway with this driver. I know its early days yet and time will tell if my enthusiasm remains as high as this, but having played Taylor made drivers for the past 3 years, namely the XR-03 and more recently the R580,the Callaway just seems more solid, and the trajectory of the flight, which I know is mainly down to the characteristics of the shaft is almost "Professional"!...low,boring and straight would be a good description .I was always a fan of the early Big Bertha family, through to the Biggest B.B and this club seems to have restored my faith in the Callaway B.B brand of drivers. Having tried most of the new breed of driver in recent weeks whilst deciding on which to purchase,ie Cleveland Launcher 460 comp,Taylor made R5 and R7,Mizuno 460 comp and Cobra comp, I personally feel that they trail in the wake of the Callaway. But then again equipment choice is a very personal thing.Whats good for one person may be totally unsuitable for the next and many of you will know doubt disagree with me. As I say, time will tell...but at the moment I think it is the best driver on the market, and readily available for well under £200,which would have been unheard of for a Callaway driver a year ago...and none of the Callaway quality of finish appears to have been sacrificed to produce this Drive. At this price its the golfing bargain of the decade.Dont miss it!! Customer Service I have dealt with Callaway in the past, and I think they have the best customer service set up in the golfing industry. Tried this driver for a round today, found that it gave me better distance and control than a Talyor-Made 580 I've been struggling with. Great distance, great control - I'm now a believer, and this, my first Callaway, has replaced the TM. Can't offer any useful comment for better golfers - I have low swing speed (80 - 90 mph), and could immediately tell the huge difference in the launch angle and distance, which was confirmed throughtout todays round. Callaway Big Bertha 454
I am very fortunate in that I have a close connection to a golf retailer which allows me try virtually any new club available, and I certainly take advantage of this. I have been a Callaway fan for some time so I was anxious to try the 454-and I wasn't disappointed. This club is hot! It is as long as anything I've tried and ultra-forgiving. My only beef with this club, and this is consistent for most of the huge clubheads, it that it has a somewhat hollow feeling. I play this club with a Fuji Speeder 652 and this club is very solid-dispersion is very tight and the trajectory is high and flat-the ball hangs in the air a LONG time but it doesn't balloon. Another very good driver from Callaway. Customer Service Hands down the absolute best in the golf industry! i recently owned a big bertha 454 with the aldila nv65 shaft in stiff flex and this was probably the longest club i have hit, the ball jumps of like nothing else i have tried, the only bad thing is i couldn't keep it in play. i think since the club is a bore through it would be wise to get 1 flex weaker than you usually play. most people play shafts that are too stif anyway. it is best to error on te side of weak. my speed is 115 and i was leaving everything right.
