Have never written a review in the past but wanted to comment on the 454 driver. Purchased the 454 with the NV 65 stiff after struggling with Titleist 983K since it came out. Simply could not find the fairway enough to score. After playing with the 454 a couple of rounds was surprised to see I was not hitting it 300+ yards like some of the other reviewers (I think they need to check their yardage). Club is exactly as advertised. I am keeping ball in play and generally 15 yards longer then the K. My best drives are 30 yards longer on my home course. Only concern is a nasty hook it I get quick. Bottom line, for my swing (105mph) this club is very forgiving and very long!

I really like the driver. Iis is the best Callaway has put out in recent years in y opinion. It has an enormous head but the solid contact and shot dispersement help you get over that. I do think it is somewhat hilarious reading some of these reviews..two of the last four say they average over 300 yards for drives. lol when only 9 players on the entire PGA tour do that. it is a fact period. http://www.pgatour.com/stats/leaders/r/2005/101 Anyway, back to review. This club performed it's best matched with the Aldila NV stiff, the other shafts seemed to reduce the the performance considerably. This club has a nice sound. I would rate this driver 4th on the marker right now behind the #3 Ping G2, #2 TaylorMade R7 and #1 Titleist 905T.

Well, I finally decided to upgrade to the year 2005. I have been playing the TaylorMade 320ti with a UST 65 shaft for the past three years. I have been able to work the ball and deliver respectable distance on well-hit shots (300-330 yds.) However, my mis-hits could really be tragic..sometimes 20-30 yards off line, which can mean in the woods or in the water! After trying everything currently available through the nice folks at Fredericksburg Golf Center, I settled on the Callaway 454 with a Fujikura Vista Pro 70 shaft. I am now able to produce similar distances (in the low 300 range), but with much better tempo. Also, when I am sure I have miss-hit the ball, I look up to find that my ball may only be 5-10 yards off target. This has produced significantly straighter and more reliable shots. I am anxious to see the distances I get when the summer fairways begin to produce roll! I don't change equipment very often, but I am sssoooo glad I made the switch to this confidence-inspiring Driver! Next task...upgrade those Cleveland Ta3's

FAR, FAR, FAR and away the best driver I've ever played! Switched over from a Cleveland Launcher 400 a month ago after launch monitor comparison. Have picked up 12-15 yards in carry alone! My longest drive so far was 343 yrds! Also finding 10-12 fairways per round as opposed to 6-7 with the Cleveland. Mis-hits are finding the intermediate rough as opposed to the trees, lakes, houses, etc. If you haven't at least tried this driver, you're cheating yourself out of not only strokes, but bragging rights in your foursome!

On my quest to fill my bag with the perfect set of golf clubs, I decided to focus my attentions on the driver as although you may drive for show....it certainly makes the game easier if you're hitting your second off of the short stuff! I had been playing a Taylormade 510 for a year or so with varying results, and recently changed to a Srixon 302 which was an impulse Ebay purchase. I decided that I would take a trip to the local golf shop and try all they had to offer, which turned out to be nearly all of the big names with Ping missing. I took my own club (the Srixon) in and had the flight scope put on to give me a bench mark, and then proceded to hit about 10 shots with each of the clubs to narrow the search. Looks and feel obviously had a big impact initially, as I wasn't going to be happy with an ugly driver....unless the results were extanordinary! The search very quickly narrowed to the Callaway BB 454 and the Taylormade Quad, but price and flight scope distance and accuracy made it easy for me to go with the BB 454. I have been playing with it now for a couple of weeks and I am extremely pleased with my choice. Of course you can still hit bad shots with it, but they don't seem to be as bad any more. I had suffered from a duck hook every now and then with the 510, but now that isn't there, and a bad shot is more of a pull draw which I know is a swing fault...and the club seems to limit it's damage. When you do hit one out of the screws it really does seem to have carry and roll. Driving, or golf is so much about confidence that if you're not thinking about bad shots, you'll hit less. This club has given me the freedom to swing freely, with much more consistency and accuracy than before.....a great club. I would also recomend the BB Fairway 3 wood which I've had in my bag for 4 months now, and that isn't going anywhere. I also carry a Taylormade rescue 3 which is so versatile. A new set of irons will be my next major purchase, and I like the look of the MP 32's....but there will be a lot of thought as before, cos these are staying with me for a good few years! Until the next time ;o) Oh...and I'd fight anyone who tried to take my 2-ball away from me!

Customer Service

Callaway have fantastic customer services, although I have only experienced them through Odyssey...but faultless.

Ok guys... this is the review you have been waiting for. Have you asked your buddys what driver do think the pros like the best? Well here is your answer! I am a professional. Have played on a few mini-tours and a few events on the Nationwide tour. Still trying to chase down that ellusive tour card. I can tell you for fact that the Callaway 454 with the Mitsubishi Diamana shaft is the best driver in the world of golf....period! Yes, the Diamana shaft will take the price tag over $500.00 for the average guy, but if you want to hit the best drives of your life you have got to try it! No, Callaway will not put the Diamana in for you unless you are a tour player, but any good pro-shop can do it. The 454 is also the best stock driver out there as well. So if you don't mind stock performance forget the shaft upgrade. All the players I know (not kidding) think this driver is the best out there! Even though, most of their sponsers won't let them play it. Thank god I am able to! I was never a real long hitter. Keep in mind i'm talking long on a tour level. I do average over 300 yards. This driver gave me an extra 7-10 yards over any other driver out there. At my level of play 7-10 yards means a lot!!! That is a club difference on approach shots. The head is an excellent head, but keep in mind that the shaft is the engine that determines accuracy. For me and most any player that swings it well will benefit from a shaft upgrade. I like the Diamana because of its boring trajectory. Shafts like the Grafalloy Pro-Launch Blue, Aldila NV, Aldila NVS, all the YS shafts, and the Fujikura shafts are good upgrades as well. The before mentioned shafts are also much cheaper than the Diamana. The Diamana retails for $300.00. Yes most of the guys on the major tours are using the Diamana. Including Woods, Singh, and Els. Phil will make the switch soon I am sure. As soon as he realizes the endorsement from Graphite Design isn't worth playing their shafts! I know everyone thinks Tiger plays the Grafalloy Blue, but he dosen't. The Diamana is just the same color, and not many lay people have heard of it because of the price tag. Well anyway buy the 454. It is the best. If you don't like it stock don't throw it out before trying a better shaft. It is the best! See a pro that can put you on a launch monitor. That way you will know which shaft is best!

Customer Service

Not fair to comment on customer service. Callaway does me very well because they are a sponser.

Can someone please post their experiences with this club and shaft configuration because I plan to custom purchase it directly from Callaway. I heard the orange NVS is a tad easier to hit as compared to the green NV, which some have said is made more for fairway woods. I appreciate any advice.

Customer Service

Excellent so far.

This club really does what it is supposed to!! I finally made the decision to get some new technlogy and bring my driver up to the legal limit. I normally feature in the long drives in the Saturday Comp so I fairly well hit the ball. This club has added and extra 10 to 15 yards, but has increased the consistency of that due to the larger sweet spot more consistent shaft. I suppose everyone knows what it is supposed to do.... but the thing is I see the results everytime. I suppose at the end of the day, if you are not hitting a really big headed driver you are cheating yourself out of some quality golf. I am hitting one club less in and can now reach more of the par fives....who wouldn't want that. I didn't really bother shopping around... when you blast them long and straight and can shape either way at will you don't need to look any further. The Callaway clubs were on special and I tried the regular and firm in RCH shafts. The firm was lower and easier to work but showed up the odd poor swing a bit more... always buy the lowest flex you feel you get away with....so I wnet with the regular whish is quite forgiving. I am a happy golfer....

Outstanding driver, by far the best i've hitten and I've hit just about all. Very forgiving, long off the tee. The shaft combination (which you can choose) works well for me, this will be in my bag for a very long time. I'm looking forward to shaving off a few strokes this summer. You really have to demo one and see/feel for yourself, you will not be disappointed!

Customer Service

Have not had a need with the driver, but in the past i've had great service with them.

Model Reviewed: callaway 454 driver

This is the first time I have been inclined to write a review about a golf club. I recently was searching for a new driver. Hit so many of the different brands. I was currently using a callaway gbbII 380cc. i have always like the 63gram ultralight shafts callaway offered in the gbbII and the Biggest Big Bertha I used before gbbII. When I hit the 454, the shaft was the standard rch callaway shaft in R flex. Just wasn't right. I felt I needed to hit it with a 63gram or so stiff shaft with low torque, midkickpoint. Anyway I decided to buy the club anyway with an aldila nv65 stiff, 9 degree loft. I couldn't get it high enough. My buddy who manages a golf store let me exchange it for an 10 degree with YS-6 stiff. This shaft is 64 grams with the right torque & kickpoint. "Bingo." This was the perfect setup for me. I swing smooth, 100 mph speed. Figure 10 yards more average, ( not a whole lot), but the extra forgiveness is sweet. This driver is solid, I love the way it looks and sounds. Also liked the titleist 905, except for the sound! Funny how little things like that can make a difference. I had used ping irons for 15 years, but got the itch to buy new clubs. So i switched to the x-18 callaway irons. All because I loved the callaway drivers and woods i have used for so long. Anyway, I think the callaway 454 driver is the hottest driver around overall. Especially good bargain for under $300! Enjoy!

Customer Service

I have never had to use the customer service.
