First off all, I'd like to say that this driver is a huge improvement compared to the ERC Fusion. The sound is the biggest improvement for me. It is no longer the muted CLUNK, but rather a lound CRACK. The sound the driver makes is a big deal to me. It just gives me a little more confidence to hear a good solid sound after i hit the ball. Second, the accuracy with this club is just phenominal. I had always struggled with driving accuracy and I knew it was keeping me from getting any better. My iron play has always been my strength; however, I never had a chance to use it because I was punching out from the trees. This club has helped me reach a turning point in my game. I have gone from shooting in the mid-low 80s to mid-high 70s. I now make a lot more birdies and a lot less bogeyes just from changing to this club. The distance with this club is also very exceptional. I hit it the same distance if not further than my old ERC Fusion driver. It is hard to tell the distance right now, though, because it is mid-winter and the ball won't go as far as it would with a little warmer temperature. I will say this much: I am carrying the ball from 220-225 with a clubhead speed of around 90 mph. This club is also surprisingly workable. I normally play a draw with all my clubs but I'm able to hit a little cut if the shape of the hole calls for it. Overall, I am very pleased with this club and am looking forward to improving more and enjoying the benefits of this club.

Model Reviewed: 11°, Draw Bias, Aldila Reg Tip Soft Shaft

History: I've been playing an old Callaway GBB II+ for 2 years and gave it to a friend recently because I couldn't hit the fairway anymore - it always went in a right angle to the right after 100 meters. I could not get rid of this terrible push slice… I instead teed off with a #3 Callaway BB fairway wood for the last few months and achieved pretty good consistency in distance AND direction (I have to admit that I also consulted my pro and my swing, especially with long woods, improved massively). Now I was looking for a driver which is longer than and at least as consistent as my #3 wood. I took a lot of drivers onto the course and was really astonished by how technology improved over the last years. I hit the Callaway BB 454, Cleveland Launcher 460 Comp, Taylormade’s R7 quad and R5 dual as well as some other no name stuff. I was very confident of the TM R5 w/draw bias and a low torque regular shaft with a soft tip - I constantly hit quite straight but was not significantly longer than with my #3 wood. I’ve already given up finding an appropriate driver until I took a look in our local pro shop where the shop manager pointed me to the Callaway ERC FT-3. Don’t know why I didn’t consider testing this one earlier too, but I was not fancy with Callaway’s ERC series at all. Finally I took the FT-3 onto the course and bang – I had a new driver! The FT-3: First of all I fell in love with the look of this driver: Deep black top shell finish, sparkling bottom shell and the flashing Callaway chevron in the center of power! The weighting just feels great and fits my swing like nothing else. It’s almost impossible for me to screw up the stroke. The first time ever I hit the FT-3 (duct-taped) I was center of the fairway, 200 meters carry and 35 meters roll – 235 in total! On the 18 holes I did not miss any fairway and was not shorter than 220 meters. For the first time with an unfamiliar club impressive. I spend a couple of hours on the driving range and the stroke levels off at 250-270 meters now. Always straight or with a rarely tiny draw (hey, it’s w/draw bias).

I have been playing with this driver for about 3 weeks. I am very pleased with the results. This is a player friendly club easy to swing with excellent accuracy and very good distance. Even when I hit it higher than normal I still get good roll. The sound was no problem with me, in fact it reminded me of the old persimmon head drivers I once used. The best thing about this driver is the accuracy, I hit the fairways about 85% during my rounds. Its much easier hitting your second shot from the short grass, resulting in more greens in regulation. Its a D--- good driver.

I was in the market for a new driver having sold my Cobra SZ 440. I tried out numerous drivers and for some reason kept going back to the FT-3. The driver is a 460cc head size but it is not overbearing as in some of the other clubs that I tried out. Takes a while to get used to and to be honest I started getting frustrated with this club. I decided to focus solely on the driver and I spent a lot of time on the range with it. Once I found the groove on this driver I was amazed by the feel, trajectory and workability of this driver. Distance was not much of a difference compared to other drivers that I had owned previously. This is a very solid driver for those of you who truly know how to work the ball. For those of you that don't or can't work the ball I recommend you opt for the Callaway 454 or the Cobra SZ 460. For those of you who can work the ball and don't mind spending the $400 bucks this is one driver that you will definitely be pleased with. The sound to me doesn't bother me at all. After hitting the Cobra driver for over a year it was nice to hit sonething not as loud. The FT-3 is a driver that will stay in my bag for quite some time

With the proper shaft, this driver is a monster. I recently ordered the FT-3 9* Neurtral weighting with a YS-7 X-Stiff shaft and am very pleased. My previous driver was a Launcher Comp with a Penley ETA 75 X-Stiff and the FT-3 is just as long, but I seen to have better accuracy with it. My normal misses are hooks, but even with the slightly closed face of this driver, I have yet to hit a wild hook as I was prone to with the Launcher. I have 4 rounds in with the FT-3 and so far it has been worth the investment.

I did not want to like this driver because it was too expensive, but it fit my swing really well. Great forgiveness on center and mis-hits. The regular NVS orange shaft was a little firmer than most stock regular which fit me perfectly. Long and straight. Put one in your bag if you can afford it. For me, I will have to wait until next year for it to be discounted.

Awesome driver but strange sound! Big improvement over original Fusion and far better value for money. 10 degree/draw/stiff NVS shaft. Longer and straighter than my R7. Consistent draw with mid trajectory. Modern funky looking club. Much more affordable that

Customer Service

Very good but delivery slow due to huge demand if you want custom order shaft. If I had the patience I owuld have custom ordered the NV-65 shaft rather than stock NVS-55 for slightly lower ball flight.

When it's good it's great/when it's bad it's horrible! I don't feel confident with this driver yet. I know that I have to tee it higher than other drivers to get the ball flight I want. It might be that it requires a better swing than I can deliver. If you want forgiveness go with the 454.

Be very careful when purchasing this Driver. The Aldila NVS Regular shaft that I was fitted for as ideal for me only weighs 55 grams. When I took the club out onto the course I spent the whole round slicing the ball into the rough far right which was quite demoralising. This coupled with the really strange sound this club makes when you strike it (Almost like a dull sickening thud )did not inspire me with any confidence at all and I had the worst round of golf I have had in years. The whole thing just feels far too light for me from club head to shaft. It actually feels like a toy!! As you have probably worked out already this club is not for me and I have now returned to my Callaway B.B 454 which is solid and reliable and not prone to wild drives. You may well be saying why did I not go back to the store and try different shafts in the FT-3,but as I say it wasnt just the shaft. There is something very strange about this club that I do not like. I am sure others of you out there will think it the best thing since sliced bread.....just not for me I am afraid.
