This is without the best short game ball ever made. For shots from 100 in the performance of this ball is unsurpassed. It can be worked with the short irons in any way you can imagine. High, low, fades, draws, backing it up, stopping it on a dime is a breeze with one of these. Absolutely pure feel off the clubface, still the sweetest feeling in golf. Also great to putt with, roll and feeling is pure. Downside is usual downside of wound, balata golf balls i.e. they go out of round easily and smile at you if you hit them thin. Also not great for distance and accuracy with todays modern drivers. These balls are for skilled golfers who can work their drives, not for guys who want to bomb it straight with huge headed drivers that hit with less spin. Off the irons, particularly forged blades, these balls are still great and go as far as new balls, but can be worked alot easier. In the hands of a truly skilled golfer (which is not me) these would still be one of the best balls out there. A shame they don't make them anymore, I still think ther's a place for them in the modern game. Similar Products Used: Everything |

I have played many different golf balls since I began playing golf. I hit the ball far and have decent control with my irons. This ball is the BEST ball to putt. It is also the BEST ball 100 yards and in. You will get more distance off the tee with other "soft" feeling golf balls but if your short game is where you want the best performance you can buy, I HIGHLY recommend these balls. I found one of these balls in the thick stuff while looking for my ball. I started playing the ball and wow! I got great straight distance off of my driver, and yet it had supurb spin with my wedges. It's one of the best balls I ever played. The only problem is that a couple weeks later I lost the ball when I sliced it deep into the woods (my fault, not the ball's). I looked around to see where I could buy some but apparently they aren't being made anymore because I couldn't find them anywhere. I might just go on a little hiking trip in the woods next to the course I lost it on. Maybe I'll even find a few Pro V1s in there. Wild ball! All the reviews are correct when they talk about spin. If you don't know how to spin it and control it, you'll find more trouble than help with this ball. Also, If you generate lots of club head speed, avoid this one. I hit 330 on my drives when I don't fade, well off the range at most driving ranges, this ball will deform to the point where it will hop on every revolution on the putting surface. After only one drive! I haven't had the problems with cutting and scuffing that others have described but it is probably because I hit all my high irons pretty thick. I have no idea how Tiger and the others avoid changing balls on the putting surface when they notice the ball is out of round... it really distracts me. One really good use for this ball however, is in the early spring or late fall when the temp is low. I've found it hard to spin well with anything at 45 degrees except this ball. It's really nice then. |

This ball is VERY soft. It drives nicely, putts well, and holds the green. The downside is that the cover gets scuffed too quickly. The price is also a bit expensive... |

A very nice ball to use, especially if your a feel player, who likes soft balls that spin. This ball spins heaps, but i wouldn't recommend it for inaccurate players. But this ball gets damaged and worn and torn too easily. Okay distance. Similar Products Used: Titleist Professional 90(more durable) |

Balata is the way to go in my opinion! I know many will disagree with me, but I''''ve yet to find a ball better for me than the Balata Ball. I''''ve been most happy with the Titleist Balata ball, but I''''ve yet to be disappointed with another name brand. I''''ve hit the ProV1 and other current "top of the line" balls, but they just haven''''t been able to pull me away from the balata ball. They may not be the longest balls on earth, but golf is won in the shorter game and that is where Balata''''s excel....and with drop and stop accuracy. Nothing feels as good as hitting a balata ball....but this is just one man''''s opinion. And let me add that you can''''t beat the "$21.99" price that they''''ve dropped to. I normally shoot in the low 80''s! Now my scoring average isn''t quite indicative of my golfing ability! I hit the ball a very long way and this can get me in trouble off the tee. The Tour Balata is not the best ball in the world when it comes to hitting driver...as it quantifies the amount of draw you impart on the ball! Anyway...aside from that, this is by far the best ball EVER..well, then there is the issue of durability! Absolutly horrible! I generate a lot of clubhead speed and I can take a brand new Balata out and hit a wedge or short iron and just rip chunks out of the cover! But man...talk about spin! I can spin almost any ball quite a bit, but these Balatas hold greens, check up, and outright spin like mad and back up a heap! They are a great feeling ball and feel great off the irons! Now I see there are mailorder places closing these out for $20 a dozen. Needless to say I will be racking up on these puppies every chance I get! This ball is not for everyone....and as far as the oriental fellows commment about 6 reviews down...my friend...you really do not know what you are talking about! If you can play with one of these balls for more than 4 or 5 holes....you obviously do not strike the ball with much clubhead speed....you can hit a long iron on one of these balls and catch it flush....and I promise you you will have cover in the grooves of your club! I like this ball, but i find that the Pro V1 is longer off the tee (when seamed correctly) and also feels softer to me (Pro V1s are 85 compression)the downside to the Pro V1 and the upside to the Tour Balata 90 is consistency through the green. This meaning that the Pro V1 will produce different results depending on how it is lying. However, the Pro V1 is far more durable. However, I recently played with a Precept MC Tour Premium and found the ball to be longer and better feeling around the green. To Yutoro Saturo or whatever your name was, I must say that i am one of the best wedge and short iron players most people have ever met (other than pros, but i'm only 15) and i find myself ALWAYS destroying the cover of these balls with one shot from my wedge (Vokeys of course). Because of this, I must inform you that your wedges and short irons have either no grooves, or you don't know what you're talking about. By the way I can spin this ball off every green at my golf course, so you're not that special. For a scratch golfer, these are a life saver. A true shotmaker's ball. Now, if you are one of those 58 year old guys who clog the course by slicing into the woods on every hole, for god's sake PLEASE don't buy these. They spin like crazy, and when they hit the green they bite harder than Marv Albert. On one green,(sloping from back to front, wind in my face), from 90 yards, I backed up a lob wedge 35 paces (or about a hundred feet for you schmoes)off the front. It was like US Open Southern Hills garbage. But most of you will just stick it, which is good. A great ball for a great player. Here's a good tip-only play these if you have blade irons. I think that's a good rule of thumb. Customer Service You get what you pay for, and with Titleist, that's good.
