This ball is very straight off the tee. With my old balls I used to lose 2 or 3 a round but now that I'm hitting straight I haven't lost 1 ball in 5 rounds. When hitting a green the ball stops on a dime. So you have to hit at the pin and not let it roll up. All in all this ball is good for the high handicappers. For the 15-20 handicaps I recommend a different ball. |

I've been using the One Platinum (Woods') and the HX Tour 56 (Mickelson's) recently in anticipation of posting a comparison here. Below are the results. This is also posted under the HX Tour 56 reviews. First, information about my game in hopes that it will help you. I have a driver swing speed around 115mph with a typical driving distance around 285. I like a ball that spins a lot around the greens and that I can back up when needed. At a minimum, the ball needs to stop within a few feet of where it lands with any club shorter than a 7 iron. I prefer a lower trajectory for normal shots. A professional ball flight on driver and wood shots is also desired. I refer to a flight that penetrates low and then seems to hang in the air as opposed to a ballooning type flight. So, the details broken down into six categories: distance, trajectory, ball flight, spin, feel, and durability. Distance: In my opinion, the 56 is about 5 to 10 yards longer than the Platinum. I realize this is counter to what other people have said, but I've experimented on the course and have found this to be true. The 56 travels on average about 285, and the Platinum is around 275. For all other clubs, the difference is about 5 yards. Advantage: 56. Trajectory: To me, the 56 has a lower initial trajectory off the driver than the Platinum. However, the Platinum's is not bad. In fact, I think I prefer its slightly higher trajectory. The difference is really not that big and is only noticeable for the better ball striker who really cares. That being said, both have a low trajectory that can penetrate the wind but still allow for a high shot. Advantage : Draw. Ball Flight: I think the Platinum has a truer professional ball flight. The 56 initial trajectory was so low that it never reached a good apex where it would flatten out; it was more of a parabolic flight. The Platinum has a beautiful flight that makes it hold up well even in stiff wind. Advantage: Platinum Spin: The Platinum wins this category because it just spins more. Of course, you have to hit it correctly, but when you do, it responds. The 56's spin was a little inconsistent, and I believe that was due to the hex shape of the dimples. With regular circular dimples like the Platinum has, you have more surface area to work with; but, with the hex design, you only have thin edges to grab with the grooves. I was actually quite disappointed in the lack of spin from the 56 a few times when I made solid contact and got no magic. Advantage: Platinum. Feel: Unfortunately, the Platinum felt much more like a rock to me than the 56. Whereas the 56 seemed to just jump right off the face, the Platinum seemed to stick to the face giving it a heavy feel, if you know what I mean. I think this is shown by the difference in distance. I prefer a soft feel, but the Platinum was too soft. The 56 was just about right. Advantage : 56 Durability: This is where the Platinum simply outshines the 56. The 56 just drives me crazy how it gets beat up so easily, especially if you hit a cart path. I mean, after 3 holes, the 56 looks like it's been through a shredder, whereas the Platinum looks like new (unless you've hit a cartpath). This was especially noticeable with the wedge play. I remember standing 100 yards from the pin and wanting to hit a sand wedge that would hit in front of the pin, hit again, and then back up. Well, in doing so, I removed a huge chunk of paint from the 56, exposed the yellow layer, and shredded the outside. The same shot with the Platinum left a slight mark on the outer layer. This one's not even close. Advantage : Platinum. So, in the end, the Platinum wins, though the 56 is still a really good ball. Customer Service I talked to Callaway about the discoloration, and they said that it was because they don't have a patented chemical that other companies have. But, she mentioned something about Callaway buying Top Flite to obtain that chemical. Customer service was elpful on the phone, but don't bother to email...it took over a week to get a response. |

i have been a pro v1x player for the past 3 years, i have experimented with every high performance ball out there and up till now i havnt found one thats better than the titleist, until recently that is....i was given 2 sleeves of platinums by the nike pro before one of my practice rounds, i honestly wanted to dismiss this ball as all hype as i wonder how much nike relies on tiger to sell products instead of pumping out high quality stuff...with that being said...i finished my practice round with the thought that this was the best golf ball i have ever used, its been about a month and i have been comparing the platinum to the pro v1x and the platinum is superior to the pro v1x in every category except for driver distance, for me the pro v1x is about 5-10 yards longer on average. the platinum is a softer ball off the irons and wedges, and it spins more than the pro v1x off the mid- low irons and wedges. off the woods the platinum seems to spin slightly less than the pro v1x as draws and fades seem to straighten out slightly however the trajectory is a bit higher, the ball gets up, flattens and hangs descending very slowly, pretty to watch but i dont get a whole lot of roll which is where the distance loss comes from i think. the platinum has a nice firm feel off the tee as well, with a meatier sound than the pro v1x in my opinion. the most significant difference in the platinum however is around the greens, its the best putting ball ive ever used bar none, it rolls heavy and true and the feel is perfect. the platinum checks up quickly on chips and pitches, something i disliked at 1st, however once i played with the ball for awhile i find myself very close to the hole much more often, the ball sticks where you put it allowing you to be aggressive with pitches, chips and lobs without fear of rolling way past the hole. in summary this is a control ball with good distance, point to point this ball goes where you want it. distance is equal to or longer than the pro v1x with every club except the driver but i feel thats due to less roll. and distances are predictable and consistent throughout the set, the platinum has never jumped on me. it reminds me alot of the old titleist professional but with a little more attitude. this is one hell of a ball. I found a Nike One and used it a few holes and was thrilled with it's spin and response while still giving me a firm feel off of the driver and 3-wood. I went to buy a sleeve and let the vendor talk me into the Platinum version. This bal is a ROCK and this comes from someone who has shot a 63 with a Top-Flite. This ball does not spin any better than anything else nor is it as long as most. If I bother to try Nike again, I will definitely stick with the 3-piece model. Labor Day weekend Sturday afternoon to myself, dropped down to the local muni to see what the crowds looked like. No one going off. Hit a bucket of balls waiting for anyone to show to play with, wound up going out alone. Played the Nike One Platinum and an NXT Tour. Observations- for me (driver swing speed about 100mph)these balls are exactly the same length. I mean there were holes the two balls were 3 feet apart. Both of them would stop or back up slightly with 8 iron through wedges for me. None of the excessive backspin that I find with the Pro V1. The Nike spins a bit more off the driver and is not as forgiving in that regard; but not by alot - this is still a straight ball. And this is a help on those holes where you want to draw or fade around the corner. Around the green is where the difference is most evident. The Nike just flat checks up on half and even quarter shots. The ball is outstanding here. I had more luck putting with the NXT, but not sure that this was not the strokes I was putting on the ball. In summary, this is a very good ball that may need a faster swing than I have at present to really shine. It seems similar to the Pro V1x, which I will play when/if I can play more often and get in better physical shape. Right now, I lose distance with the V1x that I don't with the Platinum. I was looking for a ball with low driver spin. The ball maker states that this was designed for larger club heads and to reduce driver spin. I found this to be true and the trajectory decent after peak of the ball is much better than many other balls I played. This Nike ball feels soft when putting and it rolls nicely. It is very close to the Pro V1 on the greens when putting. Any ball I try for around the green has to perform like my standard (Pro V1) or better if possible. This did for me. So, I was very happy with the ball off the driver and greens. It gave me the feel of the Pro V1 around the greens and the feel of the Pro v1x off the driver. I like this ball very much. This is probably the best ball on the planet right now. The distance and control is good from tee to green. Lots of spin on approach or pitch shots and soft feel for putting. The ball reminds me a lot of the original Tour Accuracy but the cover lasts forever this time. It is too expensive unless you only go through 1 ball a round. I go through about 2 balls a round, so at about $5 a ball, that would be too rich. Similar Products Used: There is no similar ball at this time - none grabs like this one. |

Ok...so I forgot balls when I ran to play a quick 9. Off to the Pro Shop for a sleeve. I have always played the ProV X-OUTS ($20 a dozen) but figured I take the new One ball out for a drive. My first swing off the tee (Ignite Driver)sent the ball 290 yards. This balls POPS and just keeps going. It's like playing with a Super Ball, which sould be a concern if you spray balls all over the place. It gave me a good 10 yards more than my ProVs. I hit one bad high hook off the tee that left the park. Everything else was long, high and straight. Booming shots. Around the greens this thing has TEETH. More like FANGS. It RIPS up the greens. Really. My ball was never more than 10 ft from the divot with long irons and was 10 inches when using the short ones. This ball is longer and straighter than the ProV. I have not played with it long enough to know how long they will last. I usually can get 2 or 3 rounds out of my current ball. That is a consideration for me. Customer Service Previous posts said sleeves were not available. I see them all over in NY. The only thing that stops me from giving up my Pro Vs is the price. ProV X OUTS are sold @ 1/2 the price. I play a lot of golf so I dont know if I can swing $50 a dozen Similar Products Used: Pro Vs X-OUTs. |

This Ball is Super straight off of drives, take it from a person who never hits ball in the same spot and hit 13 out of 18 fairways. I usually shoot in the nintys but the first 3 times i played with this ball i shot a 88, 87, and a 84 this ball. This ball rivals the pro v1 but I would take this over the pro v1 any day.
