Tried the New Callaway Hot Ball and was amazed how it jumped off the face of the club. Gained at least 10-15 yards of my drives...and 5 yards on average on iron play. Great ball with low spin so help keeping it straight. Priced competively for the quality of ball. Customer Service No expierence Similar Products Used: titelist nxt topflite 3000 |

I also received a sample pack of these balls in the mail. After playing them I went out and bought a dozen for spring play (wet conditions). I found these balls to be fairly long off the tee with below average spin. That makes them good for driving and the spin is enough for softer greens. The balls are about 1/2 club longer off my irons than normal. As the courses have firmed up I have discovered that these balls are hard to control on chips and pitches due to their reduced spin. They also tend to "roll out" on full iron shots into greens (anywhere from 5 to 10" depending on club). On putting they seem to hold their line well and the "feel" is acceptable. I will switch back to U-Tri Tours, HX Tours and Pro V1s for the harder summer conditions which tend to negate the HX Hots distance advantage and make spin and control more important. I will keep a sleve or two of these balls around for times when I play in softer conditions and also for driving when participating in scrambles. The first thing you need to know, and maybe the only thing initially, is that this ball fly's off the club. Seriously. I added 10-25 yards of carry+roll to my drives. Here are the facts about my playability: My normal set-up is a Ping G2 driver (8.5 degree, Stiff flex ProLaunch Blue, normal swing speed 97 mph), 2 3/4" tee played 1/4 into the ground and the ever famous Pro V1. Normal ball flight was a draw bias, 240 yards of carry, 10 yards of roll, for an acceptable drive of about 250 yards per drive. Of the 14 fairways (on a normal course) I would hit 9 as an average. WITH the HX Hot my stats get a little better. 250-260 yards of carry, 10-15 yards of roll for an above average (for me) total of 260-275 yards. Now the real fun stat. I am averaging 12 of 14 fairways with the decreased (slight) draw bias. That stat was compiled after 10 rounds this month (on 3 different courses). It’s also important to note that the ball felt softer during impact with the driver. The Pro V1 has always felt a little hard (not as much like a rock as others, but hard) to me, the HX Hot does not. Surprising to me because I’ve tried some other distance balls (Nike Mojo, Dunlop Loco, Warbird) and they felt like granite marbles off the tee. As for the approach shots, expect little spin control. This ball wants to roll, and it will. You might want to adjust accordingly. I take one less club and play for 5 yards of roll after the greenside bounce (or on the green for longer greens). Putting felt a little SOFTER that my Pro V1. The roll was true and I made no adjustments to my putting style to accomodate the ball. So this sums it up: More carry and roll on drives Straighter drives (=more fairwys hit) Approach shots WILL roll, not much spin control Putting was true and predictable My personal decision is to keep playing the HX Hot. My average round is 83 of the 10 rounds I used to compile these stats. The 10 rounds before playing this ball I averaged an 87. So with more playing time I hope to break into the 70’s very soon. I received a 2-ball trial pack of Hots in the mail a few days ago and played a round with them. These are really good balls. They are really long of the tee. They have very low driver spin and I think that helps with the distance. Soaring trajectory and good roll. They are average on iron spin. The greens were very firm, but all of my full iron shots stopped somewhat close to the pitch mark. Putting feel and distance control was good. Most distance balls tend to explode every once in a while off the putter, but the Hots did not. Very similar to a Hx Red in putter feel. Some roll needs to be allowed for in pitching and chipping. They will not stop on a dime, but are great at pitch and run. This is a good ball overall. If you want a super-spin ball look elsewhere. If you want a really long distance ball that plays with good feel look here. The price is nice too. Customer Service Great. Switched from Pro-v1. Used to play Titlest Tour Distance until the discontinued it. I never even heard of the HX Hot until a buddy of mine bought me a three pack on a golf trip in Vegas. Distance-wise, there is no comparison, the HX Hot is much longer then the Pro-v1s for me. It is also straigher because of the lower spin. I have had no problem stopping the ball on any green so far, and I play in Arizona. I even backed it up a few inches with a 7-wood. If I played on tour, maybe it would be an issue, but shot stopping on full shots has never been an issue with "distance" balls for me. Around the greens, it does not bite as much as the pro-v1, but I don't mind that so much. I play a bump and run anytime I can get away with it, and I'd rather have less spin becuase the ball rolls truer after it lands with a ball that spins less. As a 9 handicap, I figure on the types of shots where I really need to spin the ball, the percentages are not in my favor one way or another (no matter what ball I am playing) to get up and down anyway. I'll sacrfice the green side spin for the chance to use a 9 iron instead of a 7 iron, playing from the fairway more often, hitting straigher iron shots, etc. |

This ball is very long,[my swing speed is about 88mph], and has a nice forward roll, but what sets it apart is the wonderful straight ball flight for accuracy. With this ball finding the fairways with great distance the game is a real pleasure. This ball is somewhat softer than the HX Tour by Callaway, and it checks up on the green very well. It has a good feel off the putter and seems to roll very true. This is a lot of ball for the money and is sure worth a try. In somewhat windy conditions the ball like the hx tour held its flight very well. I found the HOT to have more control and similiar distance as compared to the HX tour. Pro V1's are still superb, but this ball was a very pleasant suprise and the price is very fair. It held up for the entire round so there is durability as well. Give them a try. Customer Service Callaway is very good. Similar Products Used: Pro V1,HX Tour,Precept u-tri extra distance, and many others. |

I love this ball! Very low spin off the driver and it zooms. I like the way it hits off the irons and my putter. I have the DFX 2 ball blade putter and have found only 2 piece balls putt well with it but this feels great. I was using titleist DT solo but I think I will change to this ball. I can stop the ball where it lands like a Pro V1 & Pro V1X but at half the cost and maybe 5 yards less. Similar Products Used: Titleist DT SOLO, Pro V1 Pro V1X Callaway Big Bertha Blue Nike Mojo |

Nice ball longer than the Srixon AD-333 I have been playing. Probably by 5 to 10 yards. Not as soft as the Srixon but not too hard. The HX Hot ball is longer with a lot less driver spin than the Srixon. Hit every fairway but one, which is pretty rare for me. On the last hole I miss hit it a bit and it still stayed in the fairway. The Srixon that I normally play would have faded into the rough for sure. Even though it's harder than the Srixon it still had good feel off the putter. The HX hot also stopped pretty well on approach shots into the green. Overall I thought the lower driver spin made a huge difference for me and therefore I plan to switch to HX Hot. Interesting ball. For $25 I figured it was worth a test run for 18 holes. I normally play the NXT Tour - so my comparisons will be against that ball. I called Callaway and asked them about the HX Hot and who should play it. They assured me - although it is a 3 piece ball - the technology would be unleashed for players with swing speeds in the low 90's (like me). Also, the balls low spin rate makes it more forgiving, but less accurate. Meaning, the ball will pick up less side spin off the tee, but will be less accurate then a Tour ball attacking the pin. First, the HX is silly long. I used it at a track I play quite often and found myself in some new, improved locations. I would estimate, with the driver it is 10 yards longer on average vs the NXT. As promised, the lack of spin also created a forgiving ball flight - less side spin on errant tee shots. I was really able to keep this ball in play all day. The ball isn't as soft as the NXT on iron shots. I have grown accustomed to the 'feel' of NXT, and the HX was a little harsher off the clubface - but I expected that from a distance ball. So yes, I clearly notice improved distance out of the tee box. But I also noticed a difference around the greens. I have good - not great - touch around the greens. If anything, I usually chip short of the hole. Yesterday, I blew 3 or 4 chips way past the hole. The NXT checks up a little off the club face on chips. The same swing and the HX just released, and released and... Putting wasn't an issue. The ball rolled true and I had good (or at least my ususal) distance control. But clearly, if I continue to play this ball, I need to practice with it to get a better feel for how it reacts green side. That being said, this ball has earned at least one more round in my bag. The price is certainly right for a dozen balls and I could get use to hitting one club less on long par 4's. If I can learn to trust it around the greens, I will play it all summer. If it continues to be a guessing game - I will stick with the NXT. Customer Service Callaway Cutsomer Service is excellent. I called and asked them several questions about what type of golfer should play the ball and how it compared to other balls in their product line up. They were very helpful.
