In fairness, I played this ball because a friend gave me a sleeve to try. I usually play the ProV 1 and ProV 1*. On similar conditions the following occured. Played the star at home club from middle tees; shot 77. Played the regular Pro V1 at home club from middle tees; shot 78. Played the Hogan at home club from back tees; shot 79. Mixed the Hogan with ProV 1 at home club from the middle tees; shot 78. In summary the Hogan is a terrific ball, and every bit as good as the ProV or ProV star. I couldn't tell any difference among the three. I'm 62 and 250 is a big drive for me, and on good hits with all three balls I was where I expected to be. Same with my irons. The ball putts great. In summary, I would buy the Hogan on value; that is, if cheaper than the Titleist, then buy it. It's a terrific high quality ball. Similar Products Used: ProV 1 and Star |

THE FOLLOWING IS THE WORDS FROM DENNIS FROM BALTIMORE, FOUND ON THIS SITE. "I've undertaken a search for a new ball via a 'side-by-side' comparison of the Titlest Pro V1, Wilson True Tour, Callway HX Blue and the Ben Hogan Apex Tour. The Hogan ball is the first to be eliminated. The Hogan ball just feels to 'hard', doesn't get the altitude (ie, the lowest trajectory of the four) and produces the most inconsistant distance". This is a person who shoots in the "90's". To me this doesn't appear to be the balls fault. I play in the upper 60's and find this to be the best overall ball I've played to date. I played (past tense) the A10 and the Strata Ult 2...The mid trajectory flight of this ball (for normal tee placement) is the design they had in mind, and the drop and stop spin action works great for this type of ball flight. If I want a higher ball flight on my drives I raise the height of the tee and swing under the ball more,(That is true for any ball)...Iron shots are true and the feel is accurate. Even out of the sand this ball reacts great...Putting is not hindered and rolls true...I am sold on this ball and will be for sometime. In summary...This is the ball to gage the others by.. I have play a few rounds with these and instantly noticed that these were goind farther than usual. Added distance to my woods and irons. This ball is great into the wind and is great around the greens. Only bad point would be the cover durability. Can cut up pretty fast with wedge shots. I am writing this review to help those of you who are trying to find a great ball to play with but are becoming discouraged by the reviewers taht don't know what to look for in a golf ball. A 300 yd drive and a 2 foot putt BOTH score a stroke on your score card. Just because someone can hit a driver and stinks around the green for whatever reason DOESN'T MEAN THE BALL SUCKS!! That being said...I have played this ball on 3 different courses of differing conditions, from soft plush greens to chewed up almost grassless greens and some of the nicest fairways in Florida. This ball performs on ALL!!! I have stopped this ball on EVERY GREEN I have hit in regulation play. I don't know if this ball carries 10-15 yards further on my drives and, frankly, I can't understand how anyone can measure that "extra" distance and attribute it to the ball. And does it really matter? If you want to cut strokoes off your game you will do it from 100yds and in and this is the ball to do it with. Ever try to hit a 60* or 56* from the fringe and have it roll across the green instead of 'checking-up' just after it lands? This ball lets you do that every time. Turns a 15 foot putt into a 5 footer OR SHORTER!! Now you can hit at the pin and have confidence your ball will be 1-2 yds from you ball mark EVERY TIME no matter how you swing your irons or wedges. I got these when they first came out so I have the less durable cover, but I have only had 1 ball shred on me of the 4 I've played with. That is 4 balls on 3 different courses @ 18 holes a piece. Not too bad. This is a great ball if you are looking to save strokes around the green. If you want to have a d#%@ measuring contest with your buddies then buy some Top Flites or anything that says Titanium, 'cause that's what they will feel like when you hit 'em. If, on the other hand, you want to lower your score by hitting the ball closer to the pin from 100yds and in try this ball. It may take a few minutes on the chipping green to get used to hitting cliser to the cup with less roll, but you will see a reduction in your score. This is the best ball on the market. In one word this ball is "Butter". It jumps pff pf the face of any wood, and spins perfectly off of he mid and short irons. I'm by no means a short hitter, but this ball still added 15 yds. to my tee ball. Accuracy-got it,spin- got it, feel- got it. If you want a ball wiht these attributes you better get it. I ahvn't had the shredding problem since the new harder cove rhas been implemented. Similar Products Used: HX red, Revolution, MC double cover, Smart core Balata distance. |

Ball plays similar to the Pro V1 but the durability of these are the worst on the market. Any iron shot starts to shred the cover. I was playing a chipping game around the practice green with a friend and we were both using these balls brand new and after about 30 minutes hitting up to 15 yard chips the balls were all scuffed up. I wont play these until the fix the cover. Similar Products Used: Pro V1, Nike TA, HX & CTU |

I cannot actually believe I am switching from the Pro V1. I got a sleeve of the BH Apex Tour and thought I'd give them a shot. About 15-20 yds longer off the tee for me. The feel is slighty harder than the Pro V1 but not so much as to ruin the necessary feel on and around the greens. All I need now is to get used to the additional spin I put on the ball with the short irons. Great ball overall and the only negative is the ball is not as durable as the Pro V1. Almost but not quite. It sounds like from reading the other reviews that the company is working on that issue. Great ball, try it. Similar Products Used: Pro V1, Callaway Blue (Rule 35), Maxfli A10 |

I find this ball quite hard. It is harder than the pro v1's. It is longer than the prov v1's. My preference would still be for Maxfli A10 or Nike TA. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Strata TU2 and TU+, Pro V's, Wilson True |

If I'm playing poorly, it's very painful to lose one of these beautiful balls, but it is definitely my "money-no-object" ball. ProVI is great, but plays best on warmer days, and I don't think my swingspeed gets everything out of it. The Apex Tour rockets off the face despite conditions, cuts through the wind somehow, and it's ability on the green I've seen it seemingly defy physics. Have not had the shredding problems mentioned here, but have seen it on a higher swingspeed player I play with. Someday I hope to have a game deserving of this ball Similar Products Used: PROvI, Precept MCSpin, Titleist Tour Distance |

Ben Hogan Apex Golf balls
Anyone buying premium golf balls knows the equation: Your gonna pay a lot of money for a golf ball that you can loose just as fast as a cheap one. That being said, I cry everytime I loose one of these. The Hogans are above average on distance (they work very well with thin faced drivers--they have excellent "hang time" on the club face. Great for pitching and chipping and absolutely terrific for putting. They have become my favorite ball from 100 yards in by far. Are they worth the money? Does your wife need another pair of $85.00 shoes? It's all relative.... |
