Wilson Fat Shaft III Set Irons

Wilson Fat Shaft III Set Irons

DESCRIPTION

Wilson Fat Shaft Irons have been acknowledged by many to be the ultimate game-improvement irons on the market. With today’s introduction of a new Fat Shaft Iron Set, Wilson has taken another step in helping golfers gain confidence with even the game’s toughest shots. While the new set is equipped with the signature wider tip diameter (.500”) for greater torsional stability (less twisting) on off-center hits, Wilson has introduced two hybrid clubs (to replace traditional #3 and #4 irons) that will make hitting difficult long-iron shots a little easier for the mid-to-high handicap golfer. The new Wilson Fat Shaft Irons feature a large, oversize face that creates a large sweetspot for maximum forgiveness, and the weight in the clubhead is redistributed to the perimeter to generate greater stability. The overall weight distribution lowers the center of gravity to enhance the sweetspot and optimize ball flight. Progressive offset and sole width add to the club’s high forgiveness rate.

tyhe pw is one of the best i have touched. it beats the ping and the taylor made rac and this is nbo joke i can hit the 4 hybrid over 230 yards off the fairway. i was on the green in 2 on the longest par 5 on my course 590 yards and drive of 300 and a downhill shot with the 4 hybrid and boy was it a sweet shot. made a birdie on that hole. my pet hate with the clubs is that you do not get a sw and if it was as good as the pw i reckon i would take 3 or 4 strokes off my round ...... fact

these irons are my second set and they have proved to be a FANTASTIC purchase. i bought these because i decided that i had become better than my first set were and after i bought these my scores just kept coming down. i started at a 32 handicap and got down to 27 with my original set, 6-7 months on and using the wilsons i am now playing easily to a 16 handicap thanks to this wonderful set of irons. they get the ball on a high-ish trajectory and stop it once it lands, even on the firmest of greens. they play well from all situations and the PW is the best wedge i have ever touched! i REALLY recommend these to any mid-high handicap golfer who is keen on improving.

Good for the money is all I can say about these clubs. You can generally find a set on ebay for under $200. Upon receiving these clubs I went out to the driving range for a week to get familiar with the set. The clubs have a lot less feel than I expected and the grips are horrible. Once I became more familiar with them I started to like them. They hit straight although over powering your shots may become a problem when you are inside 120yds. Overall with new grips applied, these clubs will definately be with me for a while.

These irons should be called "Fat Shot." I had an old set of pings that I sold and I decided to go the cheap route and buy these irons. It was my worst move as a golfer...ever... and I've made some real doosies in my day. Anyway, here's the deal with this set: They are not accurate and very non-forgiving. My 2nd time on the range with these clubs I developed the "S" word... you know the word that ends with a "K".... enough said about that. These irons simply have no feel to them... kinda numb if you know what I mean. Also, contrary to what's advertised, It's hard to square the club on impact because the stupid fat shaft leaves the face open for you....nice huh? Now naturally, I turn my wrists over like a good boy and hit a crisp shot... but not with these babies. Oh and by the way, the grips are terrible as well… but even with top notch grips these clubs would still stink. I just traded them in and bought I slightly used set of Callaway X-16’s (graphite). WOW…. What a difference…. I forgot what it was like to irons again. On Wednesday I shot an 87 with the “fat shots”…and one day later I shoot a 78. (By the way the 87 I shot came on the heels of only 33 putts… the 78 came with 43 putts) Long story short: Pay the extra bucks and get yourself premium irons... when it comes to golf… you really do get what you pay for.

First off, I'll talk about the 5-PW. These are the most 'solid' feeling irons I've ever hit. In some ways that's their greatest strength and their greatest weakness. On full shots they are great - a real rewarding feel resulting in surprisingly long straight shots. However, hitting between clubs (on the low side) or hitting the PW from below 110 yards took a lot of getting used to, I never realised there was so much acreage behind greens before. While alot of this is probably down to my limited ability I think the stiffish shafts and lack of feel has to shoulder some of the blame. Overall I've learned to adapt and while I'm not going to tell you tales of a 10 stroke drop in my handicap or an additional 30 yards I do like these clubs (my friend who plays of 16 loves the 5-PW, we're like parents sharing custody of the kids, when I've no golf planned he pulls up at the door and off go my clubs). Now the hybrids, I've hit my best ever shots and my worst ever shots with these clubs. Out of the rough or semi rough they're a dream, most of the time (on occasions they have a tendency to start off right and stay there - maybe my allignment). Off the fairway I've hit the 3 hybrid the same distance as my playing partner (a long hitter) hits his 3 wood but thats a rarity. I've learnt that standing tall and swinging slow gets the most consistency out of the hybrids. Although while they aren't the miracle cure I hoped for I must stress that the results are infinately better than I ever got from a conventional 3 or 4 iron so if you have problems hitting these clubs hybrids are definately the way to go. An unexpected bonus is that I really like 'putting' with the hybrids when near the green from the semi or even from the fairway. Overall, a good set of irons for a great price. I know enough about golf to know that if I want to get better I have to practice more but now I have clubs that reward good shots and don't punish the not so good too severely practicing isn't the chore it once was.

Customer Service

I bought these clubs on e-bay so have nothing to add here.

I still think fondly of the Wilson 1200's I used to have in my younger days when I hit irons longer than anyone I knew. When the heads started to fly off and bury themselves in fairways and on one occasion a green (it was my seven iron head it buried itself so deep that no part of it was visible right in the putting line of one member of a four ball) I decided to replace them with some cheap game destroying brand whose name I have wiped from my memory.

I am very happy with these sticks. It took a couple of rounds to get used to them (hitting out of the rough with the hybrids was initially very difficult for me), but I have become really confident in my game. I was hindered by a set of off the rack Canadian Tire special clubs that I bought in university. Don't let anyone tell you that getting clubs that are the right length and flex for your swing won't help your game. These irons rule!

Customer Service

Bought them from an independent mom & pop golf shop - fitted them for me etc. No direct contact with Wilson Golf yet.

These irons, especially the hybrid 3 & 4 irons, are very good. I have a lot more confidence standing over a 180-200 yard shot with the hybrid clubs, and the standard irons are very solid. The shafts took a little getting used too, but now I don't even notice them. Overall, an excellent "game improvement" set that is probably overlooked by many mid-high handicappers.

I tried many sets before buying these. I feel that they are the most under rated clubs in golf. I picked up a gap and a sand wedge with them for a lot better price than other clubs.
