These irons are great. I have used many different irons and these beat all of them by far. Once I picked these irons up and hit them I gained 5 to 10 yards each club. I would recommend these irons for anyone under a 10 handicap Similar Products Used: Callaway X-14, Tommy Armour evo V-31, Titleist DCI 962, King Cobra 2, Ping I3 |

I've had these irons for about one week and I have to say that I love them. The other day was the first day that I got hit them and they did take about 5 or 6 balls to get used too but after those first few balls they really started flying off the club face. The feel on these clubs is so sweet when you catch one sqaure along with that comes a high piercing ball flight. Although these clubs are really sweet i do not recommend them for the 90's golfer Similar Products Used: I used Tommy Armour 845's |

I have always played custom built clubs. Never really cared to spend 800 bucks or more on a set of irons. BUt know that i have mad the HS golf team, i have seriously considered overhauling my equipment. The captain of the team is letting me use these, and he said if i want them i cna buy them for 400 bucks, only problem is, I dont have 400 bucks. These clubs are the best I have ever hit. It feels, well, i cant describe it. Just read the other reviews. I have gained about 5 yards or more per club with these. I am consistently hitting the sweet spot so i know that i can pla these, and i have found out that these are what i need to get my game in better shape. Wow. Similar Products Used: Callaway |

I bought these clubs after talking to my friend who plays taylor made bubbles. He bought those only because of the shafts, anyway the first shot I took with these clubs was a 205 yrd 5 iron like a laser! I played 7 holes until I missed one ouch! bottom line if you can hit a decent ball buy these today if not wait until you can find the sweet spot. Well, I'm writing to followup on my review in June (two reviews prior to this one). I'm now shooting in the 90s consistently, so this says that these clubs will not hinder you. The more I play with these clubs, the more I enjoy them. I am now hitting them pretty consistently on the sweet spot, and all I can say is that it is a JOY playing these clubs. They feel so sweet when hit right. All I have to say is that these clubs are fine for people who are committed to playing golf well, even beginners, and they will grow on you when you learn to hit them right. Any doubts I had about buying these irons have left now that I've learned to use them better. Customer Service None used Similar Products Used: RAM Accubar, Spalding Executives, Titleist DCI |

I bought the clubs new when they first came out (late season 1999 I think), I hit and purchased the clubs on the same day. I have played them ever since, I chose the s300 shaft. Overall I have had my ups and downs with these clubs, but honestly I have found these clubs to be something very special and better than any club i have ever played. I have read the reviews here, and I want to help those who didn't like the clubs, go to your proshop and tell them you want to be fitted for swingweight, for some reason swingweight makes more difference with this 990 club than any other type/brand of club. they will probably want to fit you for loft and lie as well (just make sure you do the swingweight) add lead tape in different places to suit your needs. I ended up buying 2 more 5 irons to do some testing with and I found that for me, I played best with the rifle 6.0 shaft with a little lead tape on the head, so i reshafted and added tape to all of the clubs. the stock swingweight was a d2 with the s300 and d1 with the rifle 6.0, and I now have my 3-pw set to d2.6 with rifle 6.0 and wow night and day differentce. please don't give up on these clubs, they are magic, the 990's are so much more of a precision instrument than any other club. much more consistant than blades. Also these clubs will force you into using good tempo, quick transistions will be punished, but not by much, just enough to let you know what you did wrong (10 yrds maybe). Titelist, has by far something very special in this club - I wish they still made it, I have tried most of the new line (762, 690cb) and honestly they are great clubs, but the 990 is the best. The moral of this story is: don't give up on these clubs they are the best clubs you will ever own, just find your swingweight needs and adjust accordingly (do not put lead powder in your shafts) use some lead tape. powder in the shafts will only give you problems with these clubs. I swear the 990's will be the best thing that ever happend to you no matter what your handicap as long as you don't quit on them. keep playing and most importantly have fun! Customer Service excellent!!! - They honestly treated me like my game was important to them, I was surprised. I only used it once, I called the 800# on their website when I changed shafts to find out if they had any ideas why my clubs were acting up, they looked up all the specs and also got the specs off their test clubs and made perfect recomendations on my situation. I started golf a year ago so I've been putting together a decent bag that will last me a while. I came across a set of 990 irons on ebay for a decent price so I picked them up, not knowing they were more blade-like than cavity backs. I find these irons to be fun to hit when you have a good day. When the swing is working, you get this 'click' from the irons and the ball just flies smoothly. When you're having a bad day, it obviously isn't enjoyable, but what is good is you know exactly what you're doing wrong. The feedback on the clubs is hypersensitive. Personally, I find this to be of great help learning the game. I want to know what I'm doing wrong, so these clubs really help me get a feel of when I'm hitting the ball well and when I'm not. My old irons were some cheap cavity backs which were easier to hit, but they felt so dull, I couldn't tell what I was doing wrong. The thing is, these irons work for me even though I'm a high-handicapper. It gives me elation when I'm playing well, and punishes me when I don't. The charateristics of a good teacher. After using these irons, I actually learned to swing better and shot a 95 last week...which is the first time I broke 100. I would recommend these irons to someone who wants to learn the game well and is willing to suck it up when your swing fails you. Customer Service Haven't dealt with them. I had these clubs once before, and liked how they felt, but didn't like the shafts and grips.... so I purchased rifle shafts and half-cord grips and what a difference.... these clubs are for better players with lower handicaps, but you can alter them to better fit your game... I have four sub-70 rounds since modifying them but even before that I loved them.... I bought them used and they were still in perfect condition. If you learn to play them you will never want to get rid of them!!! |

I have to agree with a lot of the other review -- this club does not take well to missing the sweetspot. Do so, and you suffer with major loss in distance and direction (and feel). Hit it well and the feel is pretty good, lacking only slightly when compared to the forged. In any case feedback and control is top-notch, but you need a decent swing to get any joy here.
