Well, I'm going to be in the minority on this one, but these are the worst irons I have ever played. I shoot in the low to mid 70's and I've played the Tommy Armour 845s since they first came out over 10 years ago...before that I played the old Wilson Staff Tour Blades that all the tour players used in the 70's and early 80's. I've been playing Titleist Woods for a few years now and I absolutely love my 976-R driver and 975-F 3-Wood, so I decided to sell some old drivers and putters I had and use that towards the price of the DCI-981 Irons. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT WAS AMAZING. USING THE 981'S, I WAS SUDDENLY A FULL CLUB SHORTER THAN I HAD BEEN WITH THE TOMMY ARMOUR'S. IN FACT, I WAS SHORTER WITH THE DCI'S THAN ANY IRON I HAD EVER HIT IN MY LIFE!!! I normally hit an 8-Iron about 160-165, but with the 981's I was unable to carry the ball 150 yards with the 8-Iron!!! I have no explanation for my failures with this club, but I have since switched back to the Armour 845's and I'm back to my normal distances. If anyone wants to buy the Titleists, I am willing to sell them cheap because they are utterly useless in my opinion.

What I like about theese is the weight. Club hesds are quite heavy and it gives me confidens to hit it firmly and still getting it straight. The Vokey Wedges are perfect with theese, because they are also heavy ones.

I purchased these irons last winter, and was very impressed with them. Last season I got a Hole in One and two additional eagles off the fairway(all shots +115yds). I found them to be forgiving with a nice boring ball flight, and had very solid feel. Although miss hits did not feel spectacular well struck shots were very rewarding. The clubs increased my confidence and approach shots became a strong part of my game last season. I would recommend these for the better player who seeks clubs that feels solid and who would like to gain confidence with their approach shots.

I used to play with King Cobra I irons and then upgraded to King Cobra Gravity Back with steel shafts. I then injured my shoulder badly and was asked to stop playing golf for a year. When I recovered, I picked up the 981 after much research. I'm so happy with my clubs and I will never replace this for a loooooonnnggg time. I got the one with the Rifle 5.5 shaft. It's a club farther than the KC. IT looks so handsome and it will give you Tiger-like confidence. Also, you will be rewarded with a great feel when you hit it correctly. This is important to me bec. I would like to know if I'm swinging correctly. On mis-hits, you will feel awful, but funny thing is, your ball still goes far and not too wayward from your target. After using it for a year, my number 7 head got loose, but I had it repaired and it's back to normal. I hit it with a hidden rock before. Ouch! I can soildly hit my 3 irons with these to 210 yards. I never did use 3 irons before. My problem is the PW goes far, around 135 yards, but the SW that goes with it only goes to 100 yards. A big discrepancy in distance. But I don't like to get a gap wedge. I plan to reduce the angle of the Sand wedge later.

The DCI 981 are easily airborne, the distance is superb(!) – and they have a very nice way to find the fairways and greens. The design is pure Titleist – professional, ”no-nonsense” and confidence building. I feel very comfortable lining up with a DCI 981 in my hands. They are more forgiving than the first ever ”mega-oversized, mega-forgiving” irons I had – and since then I’ve played several other ”hot names” in golf: The DCI 981s are at least not less forgiving. Some say the DCI 981s are a little heavy; but that gives me a more consistent, stable swing. The PW and SW works very well with Cleveland wedges (51 and 60 degrees). No wonder my wife complains I spend more time with my Titleists than with her ...

I have had these clubs for just a short time and absolutely love them!! Everyone said they were not very forgiving but I have not noticed a difference compared to other more "forgiving" clubs. Of course, when I hit it bad, there aren't many clubs that forgiving! These feel great and I am very comfortable swinging them. If someone tells you not to get them because you're not a low handicapper, don't listen!
