Titleist DCI 762 Irons

Titleist DCI 762 Irons

DESCRIPTION

The new DCI 762 is the flagship of the player-proven DCI iron franchise. DCI 762 irons are high-performance blades with contemporary design technology. Their thin face design and a multi-piece carbon and metallized mylar cavity insert provide unparalleled feel, increased playability, and modern flight characteristics. The multi-layer, multi-material cavity insert provides "muscle-like" feel without any wasted cavity mass. The cavity insert features a woven graphite sheet in the lower part of the cavity to soften the impact area and provide enhanced feel.

I just started golfing seriously two years ago. I started with some cavity-backed, mucho-forgiving Tommy Armour knock-offs. Then I "upgraded" to some Ping knock-offs. I've always been able to pull a great iron shot out of my rear, but on nowhere near a consistent basis. I used to "chunk" my short irons off the fairway. I've have the 762's for 5-6 months now, and after a 1 month or so adjustment period, I now have all the confidence in the world when I pull out an iron. I absolutely kill the long irons (I purchased a 2-iron with the set), rendering my driver inconsequential. The short irons are great, too. What I most enjoy is the actual flight of the ball off these clubs. It's a mid-to-low, "bore"ing flight that just keeps going and going, and drops softly to the ground. Best clubs I've EVER hit, I'ma titleist guy for life.

Used to play to a 7 hdcp. long ago with forged blades. After 15 years away from the game I mistakenly listened to someone claiming most Senior Tour players hit graphite-shaft irons and bought some at age 51 - big mistake as I had very little clubhead feel or feedback, made worse by pretty oversized heads. Recently I hit some friends' steel-shafted Hogan Apex Plus and Mizuno MP 33's, then tested those clubs, Cleveland TA7's, Taylor Rack LT's, and Titleist 762's at an indoor simulator. The machine told me I was hitting the 762's more consistently, straighter, and farther than all the others on every count. Despite my scepticism for simulators I ordered the 762's 3 thru GW. After one session at the driving range I played a pretty demanding course, now a very occasional 55 year old golfer, and was beyond astonished at the results. This will sound like a paid plug for these clubs, but I swear it's the truth: it was far and away the best round of iron play of my life, including the 7 hdcp. days 20 years ago. Every full-swing iron was so solidly struck and straight that I would not have taken one "mulligan" if offerred. No hooks, no slices, despite my tendency toward both in recent years. The one big comittment I made before buying these clubs was to shorten my backswing and tone down my swing, having gotten in the habit of muscling up & arm-swinging those graphites. As long as I stick to that comittment these clubs are a dream, also improving my woods off the tee with the confidence of knowing what the irons will consistently do. Distance (150 yard 9-iron), loft, and bite are all best-ever, and low/mid irons are no longer a problem. In my second round with the 762's I started hitting 3-iron tee shots on some narrow par 4's, and will improve my scoring by doing so. If these irons sacrifice a bit of shot shape-ability, I'll gladly take that in return for the consistency, solid feel, and power. With stock grips these are about a D2 swingweight, the DGS300 shaft was a match for my swing, and my game and dedication to golf have been revolutionized.

I shoot in the high 80's and low 90's, but i could probably be a high 70's low 80's shooter if i could learn to putt less than 45 times a round, anyway. I have had the DCI 762's for about a year now and before that I was using Tommy Armour 845 Oversize and Cleveland TA4's. I had the 762's fitted by my club pro and I think that having that done made a huge difference in how I am able to hit the ball with these clubs. I have them 3 degrees flat with standard length and Dynamic Gold Sensicore X100's, that's the great thing about being 17, you can use shafts that are that stiff. I have to say that these clubs are fantastic. They are very easy to hit, and offer a good degree of forgiveness, but only to a certian degree. These clubs in my opinion are best when used in the hands of someone that has a pretty consistent swing. These clubs look a lot like a blade at address, but they hit the ball completely differently. I have tried to use my father's MP-14's, but that is one of the worst ideas I could have had, my shots with those went thin right and nowhere. With the DCI's however, the ball gets up eaily and you can get a lot out of these clubs if you have a good swing. Now as I said, I shoot in the 80's and 90's, but I CAN'T PUTT IF MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. My opinion of these clubs, if you have a well grooved swing and are looking for something that is similar to a blade, but more forgiving, go with these.

Customer Service

Customer service is great, I have used them for some of my 975D when the face cracked from a bad weld or something, but I have never had to contact them for these clubs.

If you shoot in the 90 and to the mid 80's on good days and really want to inmrove get these clube. Ignore all the 70 shooters who say stay away from them. These are great clube to improve you game if you really want to improve by working on your game. These clubs let you know when you go wrong. Yet with small swing changes you can see a large change in you ball flight. If you pay attention to what you have done with you swing change these clubs will drop you score. These are a club longer than my TA5's and the feed back is much better. If your not serious about working on your game stick with your game improvement clubs and have fun. However if you want to really improve and work on it get these clube and the rewards will be great.

I have had these since Novemeber and now that I have played a number of rounds I feel like I can provide a good review. I have the Dynamic Gold S300 Shaft and I love the combination. I can really control the direction and ball flight with these Irons. I upgraded from the TM 320 Irons (Very Good). I find with the 762 I can dial in better with the short Irons. The TM320 had too much correction/forgiveness. These are forgiving as well, but you have to strike your irons fairly well. The long irons are fantastic, very easy to hit. Overall a great iron if you are looking for a traditional head with some weight to it, some forgiveness, and the ability to control the trajectory and direction.

Wow! I used to use a buddies dad's set of DCIs when I was a kid and they were great. I always said when I could afford those clubs I would buy them. Well, 10 years later I have a much newer model and boy are they sweet. By sweet, I mean much more forgiving than the old model, much longer than all of the clubs I have owned in the past, and great feel. The club head is a little heavy but after getting used to the extra weight I've noticed my distance, club head speed, and my accuracy are greater than they've ever been. The only thing I've changed is the grips. While Titleist may be fond of those rubber things, I much prefer a nice Winn. I promise these clubs are worth every penny-- I've even joked about buying another set to have after I wear this one out.

Customer Service

Have not had any problems.--Except more time at the course, and I don't think Titleist is reimbursing greens fees.

Switched from taylor made 200 and have notice increased accuracy with 762. a little less distance but more consistent(not as many rockets which sometimes happen with tm 200) heavier feeling club. long irons are definitely easier to hit and offset not as pronounced as some of the other game improvement clubs out there . pw is 46 degrees so i order a gap wedge from titleist(50 degrees)

Price does not reflect trade. Traded in Hogan Apex Plus #4's. Hogans are also great clubs, but I never could get along with 3,4,5 irons. Also seems to me sweet spot is tiny. When hit well they are sweet. 762's are a world of difference. Long irons are long and soo easy to hit. I took them out to the range yesterday to really get to know them and it is true love. I havent changed anything I do. I thought I would never be able to hit long irons-not any more. Short and mid irons -what a blast. Fly strong kind of rising flight thencome down. All in all very forgiving easy to hit lots of fun. Grips leave a little to be desired. I dont want anyone in our Sunday afternoon Bar b Que tour to get them so I can spank em.

A good weapon, solid feel. Great cast club with a blade look on setup. I've added 7 yard with every club in the bag compared to the DCI 962's. The progressive offset works for me, long irons are easy to hit. Club can be worked either way. R300 shaft works for me and can control trajectory. A good club.
