I'm one of those golfers who had a low draw on a good day, a snap hook on a bad day. All my life I've been fighting it, even lining up wedge shots 20 yards right of the green! My game had become consistent, I can play right to left but I realized I needed to have approach shots stick if I'm going to be a single digit handicap. So I decided to pack up my Mizuna Cimarrons with stiff graphite and find clubs that could help me out. I got my CGBs and went to the range a couple times, discovering they do exactly what I was hoping: most every shot goes straight and high. I wasn't hitting them as far as the Mizunos on the range, but wasn't worried about that. I found my thin mis-hits still got some loft, even though they didn't sound or feel good. Well-struck shots had tons of loft and a soft landing. My 3-iron was consistently landing at 200 and staying there... a far cry from the Mizuno that would go 210 -- 180 carry and 30 yards of roll. I steadily improved contact until I was hitting the same distance as before, but now with a very soft fade. My first round started a little disappointing, mostly because I was adjusting my game to the new trajectory. But by the back nine, even though I wasn't scoring great, I was striking the ball well and even flew two greens. That's a nice problem to have! Like any change, it takes practice to get under control, but the potential is. Part of my improved trajectory with the new irons comes from the regular shafts (I hit a stiff driver but swing easier with my irons), but I credit the rearward center of gravity for the loft change.

What can i say but WOW. These irons are truly awesome. From the moment they were in my hands i just knew i had to have a set of these beasts. Yes they are a touch on the chunky side, but unlike a callaway iron for example this is somehow hidden at address, and rather than looking down and thinking oh my god, you just look down and smile, safe in the knowledge that the ball is going to take off on the exact line you want it to. I have tried so many sets in the search for the perfect one, and i finally beleive i have found them. The way the club face lifts the ball off on a medium to high trajectory is just amazing, and as these irons have strong lofts (2 degree's stronger than most other manufactureres irons) the length you get is fantastic. And although the lofts and stronger tthe 3 iron is still a dream to hit off the deck and even out of the rough. My handicap is 8 at present but my first two rouds with the CGB's have produced two 75's. If you want a new set of irons and want the best, then look NO further than the Taylor Made RAC CGB irons. I have the stiff steel and couldn't be happier. As i said earlier i have tried all the sets around and owned most. These irons a head and shoulders above anything else out there. My set prior to these was a mixed set of the Ping G2 (3-6) and the S59 (7-PW) and i although i liked them all of a sudden i couldn't dream of using them again. The shafts have an ascending weight system which is great. So the 3 iron shaft is lighter than the 4 iron shaft and so on. This promotes more club head speed and stops the dreaded fade on the long irons. It also realy helps when the short irons come into play as the heavier shafts keep the club on line longer both before and after the ball, creating longer straighter shots. Although the recomended price of the irons is around the 1000 pound mark, i believe this is going to be money well spent by all who invest in a set. Great job Taylor Made.

Model Reviewed: TaylorMade RAC CGB IRONS

I must start by apologizing to those of you who may have experienced technical difficulties with satellite television yesterday....I think I must have hit a couple of orbiting satellites while at the range trying out my new TaylorMade RAC CGBs! Man, this club is unbelieveable! The ball jumps of the face so quickly that one would be led to think that some one placed an explosive charge in the club that goes off on impact! Even on miss hits the ball goes straight down the line with these clubs...very forgiving indeed. However, I will have to take them back to Golfsmith for them to re-order them from TaylorMade with the specifications that I originally requested. The extra inch in length was fine, but the grip wasn't built up large enough for my hands; my fingers are a little sore from gripping too tightly. In addition, I noticed that I was hitting off the toe consistently. That was due to Golfsmith not having TM adjust the lie as I requested. Also, the 6 iron chrome began to peel away from the steel shaft near the head after just two shots! I think that was due to bubbling durning the chroming process when the shafts were made. Other than the few setbacks mentioned above, these really are great clubs. I don't think that they are for everyone though. They do have a high price point, and some may not like the large heads on the irons. I suggest that the you try them out on your own during a demo day or ask your local shop for demo clubs to try them for yourselves then form your own opinions.

Customer Service

Golfsmith botched my order from the very beginning! The grips were too small and the lie angle had not been adjusted. I had to wait for over 3 hours for them to rebuild the grips and they were still too small. The manager felt so bad she offered me 180 plus days for me to return the clubs and have new ones reordered from TM with my specs done at the factory.
