I can't say enough about these irons. I played Hogan H-40's for years and finally decided to purchase the newer technology irons being marketed. Well I purchased a set of X-18's last year and was not that happy with them as I kept pulling the ball left (too much offset). I traded the X-18's in after trying the R7's. The first couple of rounds took some getting used too but, after the third round I had them dialed in. They are at least a club longer for me than the X-18's, 2 clubs longer than the old trusty Hogan's.
The trajectory off the clubface is awesome and they are extremely straight. I never have been able to work the ball much but, If they go where I aim, who cares. Mis-Hits still get plenty of distance and seem to stay online. Pitching and around the greens You still get plenty of feel. I feel these irons will have me in the 70's soon. Do yourelf a favor and give these a shot, You won't be dissapointed and will definetely hit more greens.

Perfect balance is what best descibes these clubs. D1 swingweighting is really nice to help to control the club through the transition at the top of the swing. If your at a mid to low handicap level as I am, it may take a little getting used to the offset. With a little realinement, these clubs will deliver positive results. I think the thing that most impresses me is the "pro like" distance and consistancy you get with these clubs. If your thinking this club isn't good for the mid handicapp level, think again! The Callaway X-18's are in the bag of such professionals as Charles Howell III and Anika Sorinstein and these have as much offset as those with a lighter swingweight allowing for faster clubhead speeds. Not that you'll need it, but that'll generate extra distance (XD go figure.

The craftmanship in these clubs are very detailed, I seriously doubt you'll find any flaws what-so-ever. They claim a 3 part construction to the clubhead, but unless you look closely at it, you won't even see where the titanium meets the stainless steel. The inverted cone technology is something that'll soon be duplicated in some form or fasion real soon. This club will own the fairway, their drivers already own the tee-box. Leave everything you've ever known about golf equipment behind when you demo these, they're as fun to hit as the Ping G2's, and as workable as a Callaway X-18. You'll enjoy this crazy game again, I put these in my bag a mounth ago, and have been smilling ever since.

Customer Service

Taylormade is making long strides to be #1 in the golf equipment industry. Their drivers are the launching pad, but their technological advancements added with common tradition will make them the leaders in golf equipment without a doubt!

This is my first set of high quality irons. I played on a starter set for quite a few years. After the decission to invest in a quality set, I spent quite some time trying out different brands. I had pretty much decided to purchase the Cobra 3400's. I went to a local Golf store to get fitted and they happen to have the Taylor Made R7 XD demo set. I went ahead and tried out the seven iron( at the reccomendation of the store manager)in the store demo area and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! The club felt light in my grip and after hitting about 20 shots, it was the most consistent amount of shots I had ever made!!!! After some thought about wether I was prepared to now spend close to $1,000 for the set of irons (compared to the Cobras for around $700)- I felt VERY comfortable knowing that I would use these clubs for quite some time. Now, after having owned them for close to 5 months, they are AWESOME!!!! I have NEVER hit so many consistant shots, and the room for error on the club face is VERY noticeable! GREAT INVESTMENT!!!

Customer Service

I purchased through an online company but they had me deal directly with Taylor Made. It took a few weeks to get the complete set (the 7 iron and sand wedge were back-ordered)but they shipped them next-day and 2-day air and actually sent a hand written card to thank me for my purchase and patience!

Well, I can say this is the best Irons set I have ever had. It was my mistake to be using mostly Titleist Irons at my level and handicap, but I wanted to learn with irons that could allow me to hit anything else. Wrong! After a change to Cobra irons for a short period of time and trying the R7 XD at the Golf Pro Shop, I found out that I have lost a lot of time trying to be better with something was making me be worst every week more. Since I use this Taylor Made set (including R7 460 Driver, TI Fairway Woods and Rescue Dual Hibrids together with the XD) I have lowered about 18 strokes from my score and shooting 103 to 105 without too many problems and I am using this set from just 2 weeks and still getting used to it. They are easy to hit and even to control from any lie. Highest recommendations to any level of amateurs.

I had been playing the Cleveland TA7 for about a year and was happy with them. I saw the R7 in a mag and was interested w/ how the club had stronger lofts then the average irons, but had launch angles true to original irons. I hit acouple 6 irons and I loved them. So on a impulse, I traded in the TA7 and got the R7 XD's. I hit them on the range and was impressed. But the first time out on the course is where I really noticed how great a set of irons this are. The ball flys off the face and very soft. On miss hits the balls travels far with no vibration on the hands. The length these clubs have is foreign to me. I usually hit my 5 iron 150. But playing these gave me some confidence and with a nice and easy swing hit a green 165yd away and a little uphill with my 5 iron. This was'nt a fluke because several days later on the 188 par 3 where I would hit a hybrid, I pulled my 5 iron and cranked it pin high. All the irons , for me travel a mile compared to my old set. The trajectory is amazing. I love these clubs, and broke 90 for the first time in 5 years. These are wotihout a doubt the best clubs I have ever played.

I've just returned to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia from 'out west' and haven't had a lot of opportunity to play golf for many years. I decided only after a few rounds, however, that it was time to trade in my much loved Tommy Armour's for a set that was a bit fresher than 11 years old. Yes, the shop pro didn't mind laughing when I revealed that! I gave her my budget and it was straight to the nets and measuring stick to custom fit me for a set of new clubs fresh from the factory. I must admit, having all TaylorMade drivers and being able to hit them well, my dream set of irons was TaylorMade and when all was said and measured - they were one of my four choices available. The Pro recommended the R7 XD and pulled out a few irons off the rack that pretty well fit me. I can't ever remember hitting the 'sweet spot' so well and so consistantly in my life, even as a junior (younger & much fitter). It was like hiting boiled eggs! No jarring up the shaft into my hands even in the occassional mis-hit. I'd read every review possible before going in for a fitting and I have not been disappointed. The speed, strength, accuracy and confidence with which I can hit these clubs is unbelievable. Thank you TaylorMade.

Customer Service

I was recommended to go through 'Drummond Golf' at Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast In Queensland and I have nothing but praise for their patients and professionalism. They gave me the best price they could and plenty of quality service to go with it.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R7 XD irons

These were just the irons I have been waiting for. I loved my Taylor Made SuperSteel Burner irons and still do (although the grip replacement options on the bubble shafts were limited). But my pro suggested it was time to get some new technology. I was looking hard at the Callaway Fusion irons, but the expense gave me some pause. I didn't feel 100%. The Callaway X-series are nice as well, but still not 100%. These XD irons had everything I was looking for and the first time I saw them and demo'd them, I knew I had found the right irons for me. They have the titanium insert, the face is separated from the back weight, they are very light (in graphite), they're long, the ball-strike feeling is like butter. They're as close to magic as you can get. The LT and OS versions are nice as well. I love the thin topline of the LT. But these are probably the best match for me in feel and forgiveness. And I felt like I got a good deal in a buy-it-now on ebay for $715 in graphite, nearly brand new.

I was looking for a technology update over my Ping I3 Combo set. My goal was to find something more forgiving, but still maintain the distance I got from my Pings. I'm not a long hitter (5 iron = 165 yds), but I thought the distances were good enough for a player at my level.

I tried a number of sets - the new Pings, Callaway X-16/X-18, and various Clevelands. Then I tried the Taylormade R7 XD irons.

First let me say WOW. I have never hit a set of irons that allow you to launch the ball so easily. They setup nice with a thinner topline than the Callaways with most of the game improvement featues not visible at address. The steel shafts are very light, but the clubs are perfectly balanced and swing very easy.

With that said, the biggest bonus with these irons is the distance. Taylormade went to tour lofts to counter the high launch trajectory and the results are just amazing. I'm always suspicious when people say they gain huge distances with new clubs on this site. But, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that I'm hitting these irons almost two club lengths longer than my Pings. High and very, very long.

Customer Service

I custom ordered my set through Vans Pro Shop 1 degree upright and extended an inch with mid size grips. Ted, the mgr at Vans in Ocotillo AZ, is one of the best.

Taylormade delivered the clubs ahead of schedule and with the correct specs. Very nice. And they answered after less than a minute hold time when I originally called the customer service line to ask about custom fitting.

Wow, what can I say? These clubs are all that they've been hyped up to be. Crisp upon contact and it just takes off from there. The distance is attributed not only from the lesser loft of these clubs, but also from the hot titanium inserts on the clubface. I compared these to the R7 CGB's and the distance was about the same. Just like the other reviewer, I opted to pay much less and am pleased with the results so far. And yes, you will need a 49 or 50 degree gap wedge to compliment your standard sand wedge and PW.

The quest for my perfect set of irons is over. These irons have it all. I have been through four sets of irons this year and once I hit these on the course I knew I had a keeper. The titanium face is hot. Be careful though because the pitching wedge has a loft of 44. All of the lofts on this club are higher than standard. You will need a 50 degree gap wedge. Taylor Made has done a great job with these clubs. Power, sleek look, and control.
