Model Reviewed: RAM FX Pro Set, factory graphite regular flex (80-90 mph swing speed), 2 iron - sw

Just got these irons today and they are INCREDIBLE!!!! I'm a 3 handicap and been playing a set of Ping Eye 2 irons for 15 years. I've had numerous sets of irons but always went back to the Pings....not anymore. These are the longest and straightest irons I've ever hit. The regular flex graphite shafts are incredible. I take my normal swing and do not have to fight the hook like I did with the offset pings. The long irons are actually larger than I expected, and the short irons are small and precise. I average 1 club more on short irons, 2 clubs more on mid irons, and 3+ clubs more on the long irons. I hit the 2 iron off the tee the same distance as my 3 wood (250 yards). I may never hit a wood again. I picked this set up off of eBay for $90....the best investment in my 16 years of playing golf. I was looking for a set of irons to shave the next several stroke off of my handicap.....I think I have found them. These were made in the mid 90s and the original RAM company went out of business and the name was sold to Tommy Armour. What a shame. If you ever have the chance to get your hands on a set of these irons, for the love of Pete do so. Don't be afraid of regular flex shafts or graphite. I swing hard and this year switched to regular flex and picked up 10% in distance without sacrificing accuracy. If I don't pay attention to my grip with the driver (left hand strong causes me to snap hook bad) it causes problems. Just be smooth and pause at the top of the backswing and the regular flex will provide significant gains.

I'm a range rat constantly trying different irons. These were an experiment at the low end of the forged club price range and I can see that club prices will probably continue to go down. These clubs compare favourably to my old Hogan edges and my new Snake eyes 600c's. Ram seems to be disappearing from the market and these can be picked up very cheaply. The grips are excellent and the Apollo stepless shafts look like Rifle shafts. Off center hits are not in the supergame improvement category but are manageable. The available lob and sand wedges - are cast stainless and are excellent as well.

Customer Service

I tried to email Tommy Armour for more information but did not get a response. I don't think they are paying attention.

I play alot of tournament golf here on the west coast and I find these clubs by far the best blades i've ever hit. First off, they have an extremly small head which makes you swing properly. EXCELLENT TRAJECTORY..I have rifle 6.5 shafts. which helps me to launch a little higher flight. Immediate feedback, if you miss it, you know it. If you run across these clubs and you play serious golf, give them a try.

Customer Service

excellent..too bad they're not around any more.

I bought the Ram Tour Grind Nickel blades after starting back playing 8 months ago. I have played with about 6 sets until I bought these. Great feel with the ability to control the ball describes them best. Plus, paying $100 on ebay does not hurt. Buy them if you can find them.

Well, too bad that RAM has made so many terrible irons in the last while since the FX oversized came out. (probably because they were bought by teardrop/tommy armour) I decided to purchase an old set of Ram Progressive irons which basically is their pw-8 Tour Grind blades, and 7-2 iron is the older Tour Grind Laser FX. These things are nice and heavy and are all forged and have a nice soft feel. The shafts were old, so I replaced them with some Dynamic Gold X-100 and bent the longer irons 1 deg uprite and pow, these legacy irons are in my bag, and hopefully they will let me leave on a legacy! hehe

I've played Ram blades (forged Tour Grinds) for years and when this club came out in '98 I had to try it. This may be the best blade ever built in terms of feel, looks and quality. The only thing I would say to the owners of this club is that it must be checked for loft and lie specs every year as the soft metal "moves" a little with a lot of play. Still the best clubs money can buy.

Customer Service

Never tried it.

Model Reviewed: Ram FX Blade (Nickel)

About 5 years ago, I began to take the wonderful game of golf serious. I started practicing everyday and slowly got my handicap down to about a 4. One of the things that I did to help my game back then was to get a set of blades. I purchased a set of Titleist tour models and instantly fell in love with the feel of forged clubs. A few years later, golf took a back seat to other things in my life and I regrettably sold the Titleists and purchased an original set of the Tommy Armour 845s. Last fall I joined a club in town and have started playing golf about 5-6 times a month. The 845s have been working fine for me, but I knew that if I wanted my game to get back to where it was, I needed to be playing a blade. Last week, I stopped to hit balls at Otte GOlf Center in Greenwood, IN and afterwards started walking around the shop to see what they had. Otte does not actually sell clubs, Indy Custom Golf has a space inside Otte where they buy and sell used clubs and make clubs as well. I saw the Ram FX blades on the wall and took down the 7 iron to have a look. These clubs were used but in great shape, hardly any wear on any of the faces, even the wedge! I had to hit these clubs. The guy gave me a half a dozen balls and I went outside and put all 6 right over the flag of the 150 yard green. Every shot went exactly where I wanted it. I did not have the cash to get them right then so I left with the intentions of returning a day or so later to get them. I could not stand it, I went back the next day and hit the 2 iron and wedge and it was over. I made the swap without thinking twice. (I paid $140 plus my 845s) These irons are the most solid clubs I have ever hit. It must be a combo of the nickel and sensicore shafts because they are soooo soft. I can work they ball again. High, low, draw, fade, they do it all. They compare to my old Titleists in every aspect, except that the Rams are a little lighter. I hate to hear that Ram was bought by Teardrop, thats a shame. There are plenty of these clubs out there, on eBay and golfclubexchange.com. I think every golfer can play blades, the loss of distance and direction is not as drastic as most will have you believe. It make more sense to play a club that looks good to you, then a club someone say will help your game. If you like the look and feel of blades, play them.

In a nutshell, these are easily among the top irons I have ever played. An EXCELLENT choice for those looking to work on their game but not wanting to give up the big bucks often necessary for a quality set of forged irons. These will teach you to hit the ball properly and purely, they are much easier to hit than one might think. As far as saying a high handicapper wouldnot want them I wouldnt do that. High handicapps are not always the result of poor ball striking, but often of a poor short game and putting. I have found 3 sets in the last hour for between $175 and $225. For that price (those included Sensicore shafts) you can't go wrong. I actually prefer them to the mizunos which i love. These are VERY soft, are very workable, accurate and consistent. I have and prefer the blade model and recommend it heartily to virtually any golfer. Give them a shot before you assume you can't hit them! (PS. if it were possible, I would give the value rating a 10 out of 5! No better deal for the money anywhere!)

I no longer have these find clubs, and it is quite unfortunate. With these irons I took my game into the 70s with ease after only golfing for 2.5 years. They have a classic look, forgiving touch, soft feel, and grooves that will rip the cover right off. These are the softest irons I have ever touched (I've tried many irons). I would recommend these over nearly anything.
