Ping S58 Irons

Ping S58 Irons

DESCRIPTION

The tour-proven technology of the Ping S58 iron elevates the feel and performance of a smaller, traditional head. The ball fight and distance control preferred by players seeking to compete at the highest levels is achieved through strategic placement of the center of gravity (CG) further back in the long irons and moved forward in the short irons. This results in a slightly higher trajectory in the long irons and a more penetrating, controlled ball flight in the shorter irons. The dual cavity design of the Ping S58 iron combines with a vertical stabilizing bar to enhance feel by positioning the CG towards the center of the face. The width of sole increases inertia and moves the clubhead smoothly through the turf and rough. A thicker cavity near the toe and a thinner cavity closer to the heel moves the center of gravity away from the hosel toward the center of the face for a solid feel. A thin top line and progressive offsets aid in alignment and inspires confidence.

Shoots in the 70s
Model Reviewed: S58 2-PW Z-Z65 Steel Shaft

I shoot pretty consistently in the high 70's. I had been playing Ping S59's and Mizuno MP-32's. I got a 2-PW set of S-58's by selling the S59's and I have to say they pretty much have kicked even the Mizuno's out of the bag.

These are BY FAR a much better club than the S59's. Certainly not that soft forged feel of the Mizuno's but a large step up from the S59's. I can tell where I am contacting the ball on the club face with no problem, and when struck flush, it has a wonderful feel to it for a cast club head.

Very easy to work the ball all directions with these and they are about a half club longer than the Mizuno's. Not a difference I could see between these and the S59's, but again, a huge difference in feel.

I would caution that if you are looking for something that offers tremendous forgiveness, you might want to look at the I5's or G5's as these are not game improvement irons. Still, they are more forgiving than my Mizuno's are.

I highly recommend a try out of these to anyone who has a pretty solid swing. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I know I was!

Customer Service

Ping has the best customer service I have ever dealt with. I got this set in 3-PW and asked to have a 2 iron made up. It arrived within a week. The customer service people at Ping are second to none in my experience.
