Ping Rapture Irons

DESCRIPTION

The wide-soled, perimeter weighted
Rapture Iron relies on strategic use of titanium, steel and tungsten to create a high-performance, multi-material iron. One word for these clubs AWESOME! I was fitted at Edwin Watts and ended up purchasing graphite regular flex shafts in the 3-SW. The regular shaft compared to the stiff shaft provided a better feel and I was able to work the ball. I've found the low number irons extremely easier to hit and I've picked up about 15 yards more in distance with all irons. I removed my two HYBRID's, 3 & 4 from my bag and ordered the 2 iron to match my set. I no longer need the hybrids or a 3 wood due to the extra distance I've gained. If you want to hit em long, straight and high, you can't go wrong with these clubs. These clubs are absolutely AMAZING.

Never had to use it, bought the clubs from Edwin Watts.

Model Reviewed: Ping Rapture Irons 3-PW

My 3-PW set of Raptures arrived today and I promptly took them to the range to try them out. White dot (+3* upright lie angle), Ping/True Temper Z-Z65 stiff steel shafts, +1/4" shaft length, gold (+1/32") Ping 703 grips.

What can I say. These things are simply stupid easy to hit. Compared to my previous sets of irons (TaylorMade RAC OS, TaylorMade R7 XD), I found the Raptures to be much more consistent in shot dispersion and distance. The offset took a little getting used to (they appear to have even more offset than the TM game improvement clubs above), but after adjusting a bit I found I was able to consistently hit high shots with a nice draw. I am simply unable to hit slices with these irons. Even the long irons are quite easy to hit and may bump by 3h and 4h hybrids out of the bag. One caveat: due to the wide soles, you can see the rear part of the cavities at address when hitting the 3 and 4 irons. I'm not bothered by it but some may find it distracting.

I'm going to have to spend a little more time with these irons to come to a final conclusion but so far I like what I've seen. Getting fitted properly is a must. These irons are pricy but worth it.

Customer Service

Ping customer service is top notch. Order for custom clubs was filled and shipped in less than a week.

I used ping irons for years, then got caught up in the "hype" of Callaway and virtually owned every model they came out with., the last set being fusion irons which I hit very short. Pings are better looking now so I made the decision to try pings them again and, most importantly, I got fitted. I played my first round, (not on my home course), and hit 14 straight greens and shot 72. I was most impressed with the number of shots that went directly at the pin. I am 60 years old and on a par three I hit 8 iron 161 to 1 foot. I now have a set of irons I will use for a long time!

Have played/owned too many iron sets to list. Before Rapture (graphite) irons most recently played Titleist (graphite) 695CB, an excellent iron but too unforgiving for a 10 handicapper. Local Golf Etc. store let me borrow #6 demo iron from Ping (I5), Callaway (X-20), Cobra (FP), Taylor Made (R7), Mizuno (MX-25), Cleveland (CG-4 Tour) and a few others. All felt OK but not great. Then tried Rapture. Immediate reaction was excellent feel and feedback on sweetspot and close off-center shots. Out-distanced other clubs by as much as 10 yds. Only complaint was not used to such offset. Over time I'll get used to it. Recommend this club for golfers >10 handicap with graphite shaft. Think it's about 15% overpriced but would buy them again.

Customer Service

Bought the clubs from Golf Etc., Tampa, FL, thus, no interface with Ping's customer service.

I work at a golf course and the pro there lets me try clubs out for a few rounds when he gets some new ones in. Boy was I pumped before the round hitting these bad boys on the range. I'm 5'9 160 and I don't really swing at it that hard, but these things just have a great feel at the top of your back swing that delivers a true blow and the ball just skyrockets. The easiest long irons I've ever hit and Lord knows we all need help in that area. I carry an old Ping Eye 2 wedge that I hit from 115 to 120... not today boys cause the Rapture wedge was flying 140. These clubs will add three words to your weekend vocabulary... longer, higher, straighter.

I am coming back to golf after not playing for 10 years. Started 6 months ago with a set of Adams Ideas. I liked them but something was off I could never get below 90. So I purchased a set of Cobra S9's because of the hipe and thats all it was, just hipe! I actually went backwards in my scores to high 90's even over 100, I was starting to see why I quit this game. Decided to take a Saturday and do a blind test with 6 irons from Ping, Callaway, Taylormade, and Adams. I was most consistant with the Ping Rapture and G5 the only difference for me was the Rapture had more distance and of course looks cool! My first two rounds I played were an 84 and 82. For me, any set of clubs that can take 10 to 15 strokes off your game instantly are worth the price!! You can't go wrong with these!

Customer Service

Did a blind hit test as mentioned and was custom fitted.

First review I have written but wanted to back up the good things that have been said about these irons as I feel my long long search for a set is finally over.
With the help of ebay I have been through every manufacturer and most iron models over the past 4 years before finally buying these clubs.
I can't tell you how good they are, they feel great, look great and provide consistent performance throughout the set. I have played 5 competitive rounds with them and the results were as follows Stableford 39pts, Stableford 39pts, Match won 5&3, Medal Trophy Net 69, Bogey 3up.
I know they are expensive but based on the performance and results I have acheived i am happy to accept that.

Customer Service

Went for a fitting before having used the clubs and the marking on the sole suggetsed white spot but the fitter was reluctant to change them from current blue spot because of my normal right to left shape. Suggested I book another fitting after using them for a month or so.

I play off 11, aged late 30's, and have used Callaway X12's for a decade. I decided it was about time to splash the cash, so went to my club pro and spent 90 minutes hitting 16 different 6 irons of all makes. The iron that felt great in my hands, hit the longest, most consistent shots, and never faded (which is my bad shot) was the Rapture. I have even started drawing the ball.

I had no idea what they cost, and had thought in advance I would be buying Callaway X20's. It was a totally blind test. I bought 4 iron through to U Wedge. I shot 78 yesterday, and the week before had 8 pars on the back 9. My problem is now driving(!)

These are expensive irons, but as I intend to own them for a decade like my last set that was not a major concern for me. I am delighted I bought them. They look great too!

Customer Service

It took 4 weeks for my custom fit clubs to arrive (they quoted 3 weeks) and then they arrived without the U Wedge. Ping UK replied quickly to my email and explained they had run out of U heads and these were being shipped from the US so I would have to wait a further two weeks. The delay was poor, but the customer service was accurate and prompt.

Tried all kinds of irons (TM, Titleist, Cleveland, Adams, Callaway and etc.), even Japanese. Got the Ping Rapture irons after 3 swings at the local golf store. Even though the irons look bigger then player's irons, but performance is incredible. Extremely consistant, and still workable. Ping done a great job designing these irons, there is no better irons available on the market today. My handicapp was about 10, my 10 rounds with these irons average 75.6, simply incredible. My golf buddies laugh at my irons since they use blades, but money keeps coming in after each round. I just told them that I work out a lot now. Buy a set and feel the satisfaction!
