I have been playing these irons for 1 full season and have waited to review them until now. I was playing Titleist 690CB (gen 1) irons, which these Pings replaced. Initially I was hesitant to hit anything other than the forged irons I had come to love, but was seeking a bit more forgiveness. After research and advice, I demoed the Ping i5.
Customer Service Perfect. Had clubs within 6 business days with custom shaft/grip configuration. Similar Products Used: Titleist 690CB

Having had a set of Titleist DTR irons with a graphite shaft and about 1 inch shorter than standard, I thought it was about time for some new irons, Since I started I have always hit my irons the smae distance and this has never changed, this confused me because my driver distance has increased dramatically since I started, so I thought the irons I was using must have something to do with it, I was right. Bought a set of ping i5 irons 4-9 iron (didn't buy any wedges as I already have Ping MB 48, 54, 60 degree)I bought my irons from my local pro and I had previously been fitted for Mizuno mp-t series wedges and I new from that that the clubs needed to be 1 degree flat. The clubs were very quick to come, ordered on Monday came the wednesday, a week and 2 days later. I started using them and saw an immediate gain of about 15 yards each from my old irons. I used to use 9 iron from 110 yards and on the first time of taking them out on the course I took an 8 iron out from 130 yards and proceeded to hit it straight over the back of the green, I then took out a 9 iron and put it right on the green from 130 yards, I hit 5 balls from this distance and all of them went inside 15 ft. These irons are brilliant, I tried cleveland cg4 and taylor made rac and these beat both of them by a long way. I would recommend them to anyone. Customer Service Great, didnt't get my clubs properly fitted but then there was a ping club fitting day at my local drivibg range and they informed me that the clubs were fine as they were but they changed my wegdes, which were orange dot to red for me, Brilliant! Having conducted some major iron testing recently,I can honestly say that, although by no means the most attractive, this is the best feeling iron I`ve ever hit.Now this has come as a bit of a surprise and I know you forged lovers will not believe it,but this really does feel better than a Mizuno.Don`t just take it from me try a demo iron and compare,I have. It`s as solid a ball strike as I`ve experienced and ball flight is very consistent.Ping really have created a superb iron and it is in my opinion much sweeter than the new S58`s which feel a little hard.If you can`t stand the look give it a try anyway and don`t hang on to the belief that forged are better than cast, that`s just plain rubbish! Customer Service Ping are second to none in custom fit and offer a quality service. Ping i5 irons
My games has deteriorated during the last two years and whilst not the direct cause of my decline, I knew my clubs needed to be more forgiving. I'd also never been confident that they had been fitted correctly. At 6'5" with relatively short arms I have always had custom fitted clubs but have previously avoided Ping for asthetic reasons. This summer I decided that I had to do something about my game and so decided to invest in a new set of correctly fitted clubs and a course of lessons. I was resigned to buying Ping as I suspected they were the only manufacturer who could actually custom fit someone of my height. This proved to be the case. Most manufacturers seem to be able to make the clubs 1 or 2 degrees more upright but I knew I needed at least 4 degrees. In any case I went to the largest pro shop in my area with a driving range (Silvermere in Surrey) - I've previously been fitted using only a net in a shop and it is NOT to be recommended. I was introduced to a pro who I have come to trust completely. I listened to his advice and ignoring my previous Ping prejudices parted with my cash. A week later I received my i5 irons and commenced the lessons. The lessons have not been easy - I had developed a very flat swing in spite of my height and it has taken a lot of commitment involving hours at the range ingraining what I have learnt in the lessons. Recently my new swing has started to take shape and this has been reflected in the scores in my last two outings. I have, however, "written off" the winter months as far as playing is concerned and will spend the time having further lessons backed up by more hours at the range. Where, you may ask, do the clubs come in all this. Well firstly I have absolute confidence that these clubs fit me exactly (1.5 inches longer and Maroon dot- 5 degrees upright). I'm also please to say their looks are growing on me - perhaps not as beautiful as say the Mizuno blades I admire from afar but no ugly ducklings either. But having swallowed my pride I can say these are the best clubs I have ever swung. They send the ball on a lower flight than the G5s, which is ideal for me. Each iron flies a consistent distance and they are very forgiving. They may not be able to work the ball like my old Titleist 962 but they are far more forgiving and playing off 14 I have to accept that this is a worthwhile trade off. The big plus is that the i5s are a club longer than the Titleists, although I have to confess that this may be because the pro has got me to shorten my backswing and complete my follow through, which has certainly helped my ball striking. The build quality is absolutely first class. I have used some irons far more than others at the range but after nearly 6 months use you can not tell this by the look of them. I was also impressed with Ping's service - the clubs arrived 7 days after I ordered them, just as the pro promised they would!
Customer Service First class from Ping (and the pro who is an authorised Ping fitter). Similar Products Used: Titleist |

i5 Iron 2-PWw/CS (stiff)
20 years ago, as a beginner, I used to cast an jealous eye towards the Eye 2’s in my dad’s bag. Occasionally, I would try a shot with them and think “wow” (of course my Ram starter set did not help the comparison). Imagine the satisfaction when my dad saw my bag last month with a new set of i5’s. He picked one up and said “yes, that’s a Ping.” I had several demo sessions and had a palette of i5, G5, X-18 Pro, Fusion, Pro Combo, MP-60, etc. Just by touch, the i5 won as the best feeling club to pick up. G5’s did not seem all that easier to hit (clunky is my word for the G5). X-18 Pro’s didn’t feel good at all. Fusions were interesting but probably too long. Some reviews are critical that i5’s are short but I think they play fine. The i5 has a slight edge on the feel and playability of the Eye 2. How can you argue with a better version of a club that has been around that long? My very first ball on the range was an 8-iron that landed next to the 150 marker I was aiming at, no joke. Hitting off grass feels solid because Ping has the soles/bounces set perfect. As stated here, the long irons are simply amazing. A mid handicap should be able get up the 3 and 4 irons in this set. 3 weeks into owning this set, I retired my Heavenwood and ordered the 2-iron. How is that for an i5 endorsement? I actually replaced a hybrid with the i5 2-iron. The 2-iron is a monster off the tee and grass. These clubs feel great, swing great and are dead accurate. At the moment, I’m thinking the i5’s will be in my bag for 20 years.
Customer Service Ping has to wake up to the fact we live in the internet age of discount codes and free shipping. The company is notorious for not allowing any breaks on their products. They are not the only high end manufacturer in golf. In my experience, Callaway has an edge in customer service while allowing at least some discounting and free shipping.

I have played Pings for over 15 years and was in love with my S59s as I played consistantly in the upper 70s. BUT! my swing went with the cool weather in the Texas heat. I decided I needed a bit of a more forgiving club so I gave the I3+ blades a shot and they really helped. A playing partner had a demo i5 6 iron so I gave it a try and it was hard to hit a bad shot. I was leary thinking that it was a one day fluke until in my travels I rented a set at a course and played remarkable. After 2-rounds I was sold. Months later these are still impressive. I will be keeping set. I5 Blue dot standard grips. Customer Service Ping sets the standard for fitting. I can't tell you how many times I see pros using the Ping system to fit players for Pings as well as other brands. Similar Products Used: S59 and I3+ blades |
