Ping G5 Irons

Ping G5 Irons

DESCRIPTION

Designed in multiple sections for maximum performance, the radius of the lead edge helps improve ground impact for better ball impact. Enhanced perimeter weighting maked the G5 iron very forgiving. By increasing the moment of inertia, off center shots are straighter and distance loss is decreased.

Model Reviewed: Ping G5 left handed

Incredible! Let me say, I am a huge Callaway fan. After playing several Callaway models, I was heading to the pro shop to custom order a new set of left handed Callaway X-18's. I saw the new Ping G5's when I walked in the door and decided to give them a try. I tried my hardest to hate the G5's. I tossed and turned in my bed for a week before deciding to order the G5's over the Callaways. These sticks are brilliant. They have all the confidence boosting features like wide soles, significant offset and perimeter weighting. Also, they feel very soft for a cast club. I love the sandblasted finish!! Always liked that aspect about Ping. Why did Callaway stop doing this??????? Anyways, I got fitted for the first time in my life!!! Wholy crap, ladies and gentleman, what a HUGE difference!!!!!!!!!! I'm 5'9" average weight and build. I figured that stock clubs off the shelf were close enough to what I needed. After being fitted for my Pings, I found out that I required the lie to be flattened 2 degrees, shaft shortened by 1/2", regular shaft flex ( I always thought I was stiff flex but the numbers don't lie), and finally a mid size grip. Man, there's no way a stock club could ever fit me. Un- real. "Damn!" I said to the guy after crunching all the measurements. So, I never felt so good about ordering a set of irons. I have the irons now and just love playing with them. They look, feel, and perform exceptionally and best of all, they fit me! I should mention that the demo irons I used at the range were color coded orange (2 degrees flat) with a regular flex shaft. This probally explains why I fell in love with them. I've seen the light and completely believe in a fitting. Very happy with my choice and glad to be one of the first ones to get these new sticks. Pings best ever!!!! By the way, there are several grip styles. I got the Ping full cord. Oh man, what a sweet grip. If I have a brain in my head, this will be my last set of sticks. Somebody shoot me if I end up selling these!!!!!!

Customer Service

Very good about returning my emails.

Model Reviewed: Ping G5 Irons

I have played pretty much all the Ping lines from Eye2 to G2 and can say in my mind, these are the best to date by a good margin. Initially, I felt that the G5's were probably a cosmetic re-do of the G2's, but after playing 2 rounds, I'm a believer. I liked the G2's but felt the steel shaft version was a little harsh feeling. The graphite's feel much better, but I like steel shafts in my irons. On the other hand, the G5's in steel feel great. Very solid, and extremely easy to hit. I think the wider soles and lessened bounce (as opposed to the G2's) make a big difference in playability. The mods they made on the weighting and the tuning port must have done something, because I feel a difference. Maybe not a big enough leap for some folks to rush out and buy a set, but for me it was definitely worth it.

Customer Service

Ping sets the standard.

If it has a head on one end and a grip on the other, it's probably been tried.

Model Reviewed: Ping G5 Irons, CS-Lite Stiff Shaft

Have just tried a demo set for the past 3 days - on first impression they didn't look that much different to my existing i3 Blades; but as soon as I hit the first shot I realised that the difference is massive. These irons are the best I have ever tried ! The rubber grips are really nice, and the irons sit beautifully at address. Looking down, you can only feel confident. On impact these clubs have a great feeling - like a knife passing through soft butter !! The 'feel' is just outstanding, and the degree of forgiveness is very high. They also give a nice feeling of weight in the head - they are not a heavy club by any means, but I liked the fact that the club-head felt that all the weight was underneath the ball at impact. I tested them against my i3 blades - distance is very similar (arguably the i3's are marginally longer), but the overall feel, level of forgiveness, and look make these irons FAR better. I can't afford them, but cannot resist - an order is going in tomorrow !

Customer Service

Not yet tested, but we all know that Ping has a great reputation. I buy all my clubs from the Golf Warehouse (in New Zealand)- they are a great retailer - nothing is ever a problem !

i gave up on my ping eye'2 and played with the callaway x 14's.after the x 14 plate on the back of the clubs kept falling off i hit the g5 demo at the driving range.i ordered a set that day. .i ordered the irons with the rifle flighted shafts.i found the clubs to be longer than the x 14's.the club do not go far off of line on bad shots.the wedges are deadly.just aim them and that's where they go.they seem to spin the ball like my eye 2 sq.grooves did,but are at least 1-2 clubs longer.i have played 4 rounds with the g5's and i am usually shoot around 83-86.i have had a 78 and 79.i am 60 years old and am hitting the 6 iron 170 yards.i had the eye 2's in my bag for 20 years before buying yhr x 14's.i will have the ping g5's for a long time.one great set of irons.

Model Reviewed: Ping G5 irons

Had a chance to demo these, and the G5 irons are a very good. One thing The main reason I sold my G2s is that they had way to much bounce. This made them hard to hit off of firm ground. The G5s have a average of about 3 degrees less bounce per iron. They also have less offset in the shorter irons which is nice. They have a wider sole than the G2 and are hard to hit fat, these are very forgiving irons. The feel to them is nice and not to harsh, but isn't that responsive. It is hard to tell if your are missing the sweet spot. The ballflight is very high and about a club shorter than my regular irons ( likely do to the stock shafts ). There are some downsides to these irons though. One is the CS lite shaft that they come with. This shaft just isn't in the same class as a Rifle or a Dynamic Gold. It is too light and wippy even in stiff. If you do buy these I would upgrade and get custom fit. I also believe the swingweight is C9, this is also somthing to consider if you are a stronger player as most irons are in the D range. The G5s have that same very nice finish that is unique to Ping, but the shape of the heads will not win any awards. There are new Ping grips for these irons and they are very nice to hold. Overall these clubs are a 4, but with a quality shaft upgrade I would give these irons a 5. And as always, Ping's quality is top of the line.

Customer Service

Ping and Callaway are the best hands down.
