Ping Eye 2 Irons

Wildly Popular since their mid 80's inception, the Ping Eye2 Irons are the original, and still one of the best cast, perimeter weighted cavity back irons on the market.

I struck gold at the local Goodwill store!

Bought a complete set of Ping Eye 2s for
99 cents each, and whatb the reviews say are true.

I've never played better.

I've played the ISI's since the 90's and had never wanted to change. Got a set of eye 2's (model w/ "u" grooves) made only one yr from Sept of 84-Sept of 85. The intrigue was to own the u groove model..Also have the Karsten 1 iron set.
After playing a few rounds with the eye 2's I see why so many folks luv em! The control and accuracy are really impressive.

Very happy to own them!

Fairways & greeens to you!

Bought a set of Ping Eye 2 Red Dot left-handed irons last week for 20 bucks. 3-LW with serial numbers in great shape, just needed cleaning up. Still has original grips. Can't wait to play them this weekend. They have been sitting in a closet for years here in Okinawa.

I bought mine in '82 after seeing many pros play them and I played blades for 20 years prior. Its the only set I use and Ive tried all the others at demo days. What did these irons do? All cavity backs are just trying to imitate them as they were first. Callaway has built a company from cloning versions of them as well as Titleist. I cant believe that Scotty Cameron has the balls to charge so much for putters with his name on Ping designs. Dont let them tell you that golf clubs are better every year. Ive played and won many tournaments with my 30 year old irons so dont be a golf fashion moron. Buy a new shirt and balls if it makes you feel better but it ain't the clubs holding you back if they are Eye 2s.

I decided to try the Ping Eye 2 irons again, and man am I glad. I had a set , which I stupidly sold a few years ago. After trying all the Major name brand top of the line irons , I noticed one common thing , they all lacked feel and consistancy, which is what I try to get form my clubs. As soon as I received this set I hit them and not one bad shot , and the smoothness and feel were great . It was if I never stopped using these iron. I hit long straigh shots , also found them very easy to work. I won't make the same mistake twice. Old technology that can still keep up with today's best.

I bought some used Ping Eye 2's back in the late 80s. I played them 30 times a year or so until 2004. I then started playing more often and was told, and believed, that if I ever wanted to get good I needed to move to a "forged blade" design. I have since played several sets of Hogan and until recently played Titleist AP2.
I now play almost every day. I usually shoot 80, sometimes 79 but more often 82. I tend to have a good round followed by a horrible round. I have shot below par but not often. I have been unhappy with the durability of AP2's and complained about it to my neighbor (30+ handicapper). I pulled out my old Eye 2's and showed him how these 25 year old clubs that were never taken care of showed less wear than the 2 year old forged clubs.
He plays a set of Precepts that look just like the Eye2's. We ended up taking them out to the course and he played with them for 9 holes. He hit the first 7 greens in regulation shooting par, went in the lake on 8. And pared 9. Shooting a 39. He said that while they look just like his club, they feel 10 times better. He was baffled that the two could look so simular and feel so different.
Just for laughs, I played a round with the obsolete cast steel paper weights. I shot a 69. I have played with these now for the last two weeks, while I wait for my "new clubs" to sell on Ebay. I have had good days and bad. Bad days with poor driving and inability to putt the ball into the hole, I shot 81. My average with these clubs is a 75.
These clubs are a black dot and I need a green. So I ended up buying some ISI Becu on Ebay but am planning on playing with Eye 2 wedges. I went with the ISI because of the ability to work the ball. The Eye 2 went straight, period. I could work them high and low and left but they would not go to the right. The ISI go straight but you can make them turn if you really try. I also liked the stronger lofts of the ISI.
That being said, my neighbor is buying my Eye 2's. And I have to say that they are one of the best irons I have ever played. Some say that they feel harsh compaired to "forged". I say I completely forgot to compare the feel when the ball hit three feet past the hole and rolled back to within 3 inches on the first par 3 I played with them. And on days where I am not hitting the ball irons well, overswinging mostly, I can find my ball 3 feet off the edge of the green not 30 feet in front of me.
I will review the ISI in a couple of weeks after I have had an opportunity to compare the two over time. I played with some ISI Nickel that a friend has and loved them. They felt very sweet. I went with the copper because they also look different.
