I was so disappointed in the MX900 short irons i took a beating but I traded them in on a set of Callaways X20. Callaways iron don't leave the gap in distance like Mizunos
Beware before paying High Dollar for poor performance like Mizuno's..

I've used several brands of Irons,Taylor Made, Titliest, Corba's now i have Mizuno's MX 900's. Mid and Long iron have great distance, hybrid effect is smooth. BUT, the 8, 9 and PW are short and weak. Lost a full club in distance with the short irons. Disappointing is my rating.

These irons are fantastic. And what a great idea of widening soles with the longer irons. The head made of carbon steel so hits feel soft and pleasant. A very well constructed set of irons. Forgiving but doesnt have as much offset as Callys or TMs. Mizuno needs to cater their marketing to US consumers. They have the best irons but dont generate alot of hype. Highly recommend these irons.

I started playing golf at age 50 and I am now crowding 70. I have played golf at least 4 days a week for the last 7 years. My handicap has increased from the low 80s while in my 50s to the mid 90s the last 3 or 4 years and I have changed several drivers-hybrids-iron sets- and putters rec'd pro-instructions ,tips( good and bad ) and continued to loose confidence in my ability to improve or at least stop the bleeding.
I purchased a set of Mizuno MX-900 3-pw and I am scoring and enjoying the game again because these clubs are game improvement clubs for a fact. I needed distance and I got it - I needed better control and I got it.

Model Reviewed: Mizuno MX 900 Irons Graphite R

I played several years with the Callaway X14 and switched to this set of graphite MX 900 R flex irons about 6 months ago in search of greater forgiveness and control. So far theMX900 have proven to be much more forgiving on both off-centre hits and thin/fat shots. Thin shots also rise much higher than the X14 and doesn't airmail or zoom pass the greens like most irons. The best clubs are the mid irons, which are easy to control distance. Distance is about half a club longer than the X14, for me, that means a 7 irons of about 155 yards (I am not those that hit 5-iron 200 yards or driver 300 yards, just a weekend recreational player). The long irons are easy to hit off the tee, but you should not assume that they are as easy to hit on the fairway as the true hybrids out there. My only negative point is that the lengths of the clubs are half inch shorter than almost any other models out there and also the lie is a bit flat, so anyone above 5ft7 or 5ft8 would probably find the factory standard length shorter than normal and lie about one to 2 degrees too flat. I am 5ft10, so I need to crouch a little or stand a little further back from the ball at address. The regular graphite shaft is fine as long as you have a fairly smooth transition. If you go after the ball hard or fast, then I would recommend the stiff shaft or a regulat steel model. All these are not really negative if you understand that the standard factory specs are designed for both the Asian and US specs by Mizuno. Afterall, unlike its competitors, Mizuno still do most of its manufacturing in Japan and the halfway between Asian and US specs is done to minimise inventory and production costs.

I was lucky enough to pick these up at the bargain price of £300, just as the later MX950 were about to hit the market. I had looked at the MX900 in the pro shop many times snd thought what a beautiful set of irons they were, and envied anyone who bought them, but I wasn't prepared to pay £650 which was the original price. I traded in some very ordinary John Letters irons that I had only bought a few weeks earlier. Am I glad I did? The MX900 are absolutely brilliant. They have taken my game to a level nearer what I feel I should be playing and that 'buttery' feel, ie NO tremour through the shaft on striking the ball has to be experienced and then understood. In short a truely amazing set of clubs for all levels of golfer, and you feel 'special' having them in your bag!

I WANT YOU ADD MY COMMENTS.
I played the MP-33 for 8 years but the last few years I have more trouble making good contact. (getting older)
Bought the MX-900 after trying them at the test area. Didn't like the feel of the S300 (STIFF) But as soon as I hit the S300 SL (SUPER LIGHT)I KNEW THE FEEL AND SWING WAS PERFECT.
Played 6 rounds now and they are by far the best irons I have ever hit.
STRAIGHT...10 YARDS LONGER with the same swing. Great feel.
I would suggest you find a ball that works best and stick to that one ball.
I would not hit a ball that is made for "long distance" can not control the right distance for the club.
I use the BRIDGESTONE E6 and the Callaway tour HX-56.(still working on the best one for these clubs)
I have an 8 hcp. but these clubs will be great for ANY PLAYER.. Very forgiving and easy to hit. (be sure to try the SL shaft) IF you are young and strong you may not need them but for us older
players, they are very easy to swing.
I tried working the ball and found it went straight most of the time but I'm not one that "works" the ball anyway..
I say STRAIGHT IS GOOD.

I am a iron snob and have belived in the past at a cb or mb was the way to go, oh yes forged. A friend strongly recomended I try the mx900 and what a suprise, at 60 plus I have have lost some distance and have to rely on my short game. WEll THESE irons definitly are one longer than my mp 32 with almost as good feel. I replaced the 2,3,and 4 irons with the mp fli hi and could not be more please. My scores are around the same but with a lot less presure and confidence. Oh, I found i could manuver these just fine once you trust your swing. I would highly recomend. they are a steal on ebay, ibought through games people play and the adjusted the lie for 25 for a total of 350-what a deal!
