I've been playing golf for about 3 years. The only type of instruction I've had is reading (and re-reading) Ben Hogan's 5 Fundamentals of Modern Golf and working on my swing at the range. My point being, I am by no means a scratch golfer. I am your average duffer that goes out three times a week to trash talk my friends and get some exercise. My average round is a 93-97, I hit an 89 only once in my life and I play mostly public courses.

I was playing on Cleveland TA-7s with a graphite, regular flex. The flex wasn't firm enough, so I headed down to Edwin Watts to make a change to a steel shaft. I hit the Cleveland Launchers, TaylorMade RAC OS, and the Mizuno MX-17s, all with regular flex steel shafts.I like to take an easy swing on the ball and according to the swing/launch monitor my club-head speed is between 85-90mph.

At the end of the testing, I ruled out the RACs...they were prohibitively expensive and didn't perform any better than the Mizunos. The Launchers I liked, but the feedback from them wasnt great. Moreover, the distance on the Mizunos seemed to be a little better. That coupled with 20% off the original price, sold me.

I've had them on the course five times now and each time gets better. This morning, on a par 3 165yds, I stuck a 6 iron about 2 feet from the pin. The ball gets up and moves slightly right to left with almost every shot. I can take my easy swing and still hit my 7I 150 yards and with a pretty high consistency.

In summary, the MX-17s are a great iron with a nice feel and don't require you to be a scratch golfer to hit some decent shots. I feel confident with every iron in the bag from 3-PW. Now I am going to get to work on that short game so I can actually do some scoring!

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Well after reading dozens of reviews and bringing my club selction to four different makers,i decided on the x-17
price for price these were the best.
Tried then on the range and out of 40 balls 6 were out of a 8 to 10 yard circle
and this with a 5 iron at165 to 170 yards
Trajectory is nice and high ,and the fealing in your hands is HO so soft.
No bad reviews here.

These clubs look great, the have terrific forgiveness, they feel great. I've tried many game improvement irons, and these feel the best. The price is excellent, too. Sometimes I miss the feel I used to get from hitting the sweet spot, but that's not much of a concern. The only question I still have is whether they are shorter than my old top flites. I'd like to know how others feel about that.

I recently purchased these irons on ebay with NSPRO shaft. That's exactly what I want. I used to play a set of Cleveland TA7, these are good clubs but due to my ability the 3-5 iron were never on course. I have replaced them with a TM 25* MID. The MID is a nice club which can hit up to 185y but sometimes difficult to control the distance.

The MX17 are very forgiving, staight and with great distance (+ 8-10y may be becase of the shaft). The long iron are so easy to hit and get the ball in air. Bad shots will only loss little distance.

With the MX17 iron, I can now have full contol of distance between 115Y to 190Y. Any mid to high handicap should give this a try. GOOD WORK MIZUNO

Easy to hit and very forgiving. You get a lot of loft with these irons. Easy to stick it on the greens.

If you are a golfer with a mid to high handicap clubs are outstanding. Some people complain that they are a brick on a shaft!! This is due to the genius design of the club. The extra weight forces you to have a outside-in swing. Not only did I hit these irons better but after a while on the range I was hitting my metals beautifully.

I recently purchased these irons on ebay, great price and I couldn't resist. Not that I needed a new set, I am very happy with my Nike Slingshots, and those are the irons that I will use for comparison.
Both sets are very forgiving, but I have to give the edge to the Mizuno's, probably because they have slightly more offset.
Distance-wise, I hit the Mizuno's about 4-6 yards longer than the Nike's, not a huge difference, but a difference nonetheless.
As far as feel is concerned, I thought that this would go to the Mizuno's, but it is the Nike's that win this battle. There is a definite click on impact with the Slingshots that is nice, where the Mizunos feel kind of 'blah' at impact. There is no difference in feel between a well hit shot or a poor shot, they all kind of feel the same, a little dead to be honest.
Both sets play to the same degree of loft, 3-PW, but the Nike's have a lot more bounce per iron...like, a lot more, from 2 more degrees at the 3 iron, to 5.5 more at the PW. This makes the Nike's a little easier to hit out of the rough, but also makes them look a little fatter at address. The Mizunos set up a little better to my eye because you can't see the sole at address. Both have similar toplines, a little thick, but that is the nature of game improvement clubs.
All in all, both sets are comparable, which is making my decision on which set to leave on my bag all the more difficult! Either way, you can't go wrong, and I wish I could give them 4.5 stars instead of 4 for the overall rating.

I have used probably 12 iron sets so far,
incl Ping, Callaway, Cleveland, Tour Edge,
Spaulding, Arnold Palmer to name a few.

When I tried hitting the demo 6 iron, it
was very easy to swing and the hits felt
soild. So I ordered a set with steel shafts. I play 4-5 rounds each week, so
I will post my results in a couple of weeks. My set ordered is 2 deg flat and
1/4 inch short.

I strongly recommend these irons. I played with Titleist 790 cb forged, and I missed alot of shots due to the small sweet spot. The sweet spot in these irons is amazing and I finally broke 86.
I tested the slingshots, callaway X18s,etc, and for the money $499.99 new, vs 699.99 for others is remarkable.

I normally play Talyormade 300 forged irons. However, this last year I haven't played nearly enough to keep my ball striking accurate enough for these clubs so it always takes a number of holes to get"warmed up". I decided to purchase some more forgiving irons so I can enjoy my recreational golfing from the first hole on. I got a new set of Mizuno MX-17 irons on ebay ($303). All I can say is that I cannot miss with these clubs! Ball striking is efortless and the distance is almost comparable to my 300's. Even the 3 iron is easy to launch. And these irons fly up and straight! The only thing missing is that sweet buttery feel when you hit the sweetspot on the forged irons. Its also a little harder to "work" the ball but it can be done. These are amazing irons! You can't go wrong with these requardless of your playing abilities. Kudos Mizuno!
