Mizuno MP-14 Irons

Mizuno MP-14 Irons

DESCRIPTION

A favorite of dozens of PGA Tour Pros, the MP-14TM is one of the most popular forged blades on the PGA Tour and features a clubhead made of Grain Flow ForgedTM mild carbon steel. These nickel chrome plated forged blades are as solid as they look, delivering the feel and performance demanded by accomplished players. The MP-14 irons feature a cut-away muscle-back contour design with a slight offset to generate feedback and excellent workability. They also feature rolled leading edges to reduce turf drag.

First let me start off by saying these irons do not require a perfect swing as some might think. For the past year I've shot in the low 80's and high 70's and the only thing that kept me out of the 70's on a consistent basis was my iron play. For the past 2 years I have fought a hook with me irons (at the time Lynx Black Cats). So recently I decided to do some research on some irons with less offset and a thinner topline. Mizuno has a good rep on tour so I thought I would see what the buzz was all about. While everything about the MP-14's sounded good to me, I couldn't help but think about how intimidating forged blades seemed. In fact, when I finally got enough courage to go to a driving range to try out a set, the gentleman that ran the range told me (in a round about way) that I was not a good enough golfer to be happy with the MP-14's. Regardless of his opinion, I had to try them for myself. Its a decision I will never regret. I can't imagine an iron feeling any sweeter than my MP14's. The club head is a little heavier than my Lynx's so I can feel where the club is throughout my swing. The less offset and thin topline offer a clean and confident look at address. The smaller head offers more feel for finesse shots and green side chips. They have truely changed my game. The only distance I lose is on shots that are not hit square. I can deal with that because with my Lynx, bad shots carried the same distance but would go a mile off course. That's not the case with the MP-14's; they don't stray too far from the target line. My game use to look forward to short par 4's and par 5's and wanted to avoid par 3's and any other hole that put a long iron in my hand. Now I look for a birdie opportunity on every par 3 and even if I don't stomp on a drive, I know I can still get on in regulation. If your sitting there wondering if your game is good enough to play a forged blade, do what I did and go try them out. It's worth it. Take it from me.

i acquired my mp-14's from play it again sports. i had ping zing 2's and liked them, but felt it was time to move away from the battleship on a stick. i took the zings to play it again and traded straight up. usually play it again screws you on trades, but in this case, i definitely won. the minimal offset has encouraged me to try to find a repeatable swing and has allowed me to play a draw instead of a booming hook. lastly, the feel of a forged blade is so good that i'll never use a cast cavity back ever again.

I am a weekend golfer now, but when i purchased the mp-14's i was playing around 3 to 4 times a week. I have hit mostly every type of irons in my golf experence, and nothing but the ben hogan apex pc,and the new nike blades compare to the mp-14's and 33's.The distance when you strike the shot you are shooting for will repeatly proform the same yardage everytime. I shot in the 80's because of my putting and my course management, when i am striking the ball good no irons compare to the soft and controlling feel as these irons. I purchased these irons in 98 and i have two sets for life that will never be sold. bye

These irons (3-PW) have a great look and feel when struck well. The short irons have improved my game tremendously. They have an outstanding feel and put plenty of spin even on distance balls. The middle and long irons must be struck well to find the sweetspot on a consistent basis. Only choose these clubs if you're willing to put in the practice to develop a sound repeating swing, anything less will result in clank. I'm looking forward to seeing what a pro-caliber blade design will do for my game after playing cast clubs for the past 10 years. PS - I bought these clubs on EBay for a steal, they are in pretty good shape for being forged from soft steel. I expected a few dings and normal wear and tear marks but overall I'm very pleased.

After 8 years of playing, I switched to blades. Won't look back. The Mizuno TP-9's are wonderful feeling clubs, both in the hands and through the ball. The forged heads look beautiful and feel nicely balanced. The muscle back design provides good weight and confidence behind the ball. My game has definetely stepped up since getting these clubs. Good, repeatable swing mechanics are critical for hitting blades and this realization is now first and foremost in my mind at every setup. Feedback is instantaneous on both good shots and bad. Previously, I played Ping I3's which are a fabulous set of irons; Ping's best in my opinion. However, distance was just not consistent with me. I would hit PW anywhere from 110 to 140 yards. Probally my fault, I can't knock Ping, but it was always a crap shoot. The TP-9s are extremely reliable in distance and accuracy. These irons are not for the Sunday golfer, but you don't have to be Tiger Woods, either. It's worth mentioning too, that I'm a left handed golfer. Quality blades are hard to find for us southpaws. The Tp-9's were produced for a short time and I believe were discontinued around '96. Ledgend also has it that the TP-9's were made exclusively for lefties and only sold in the U.K. In short, I can't imagine a finer blade ever made. These beauties are keepers.

Game improvement clubs, you have to think about every shot. They will punish you if you don't. I found myself getting sloppy with my ping isi's, so I decided to try out some blades. I read all of the reviews for the various clubs, Mizuno seemed to have the best ratings. I can see why, at first I thoutht that I made a mistake even to try out some blades, but when I realized that I just needed to swing the club instead trying to hit the ball, what a difference. That is why I call these game improvement clubs, they will not let you get away the the crap the cavity backs will. After 3 weeks with the mizuno mp 14's my ball striking has greatly improved, shot 76 yesterday. If you want to become a truly player try these clubs. May be frustrating at first but worth it if you have the potential.

Sweetest clubs I ever swung and I'm hitting the ball better than ever. I got rid of my two sets of Ping irons two months after I bought these. I had the lofts strengthen 1/2 club each and now get optimal trajectory. Beforehand, they hit too high. Not for everyone if you are all over the clubface however.

I replaced the DGS300 with DGR300 and have been striking the ball solidly with these beautiful irons. The feel is superb. Mizuno should seriously reconsider the discontinuation of this great set of blades. The only thing I had to get used to was the weaker lofts.
