MacGregor M565 V-Foil Iron
Having been using Callaway X14 and then the disappointing X16s for some while, I recently switched to the Mizuno MX-23. Unfortunately, I found them no-where near as good as I had hoped for...in fact they were very disheartening in their lack of performance. By chance, I read the reviews on here of the M565 and thought to take a better look.THIS WAS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE REGARDING IRONS. From 3-6 Iron they have a C.O.R legal face for massive length and 7-PW has soft carbon forged steel, for feel and touch. I bought myself a set in Regular Graphite and the rest is history; longer...far longer...massively longer than the MX-23s; very very straight and on mis-hits, there is no apparent loss of power. The original 455 clubs were way to 'clunky' looking, but this brilliant club is just right. I play off of 12 handicap and on the evidence of the few rounds I have played with them, I fully expect to be off 'single figures' in the very near future. When over the ball, these clubs remind me of the X18 Tour or Pro series.. but having had several Callaway sets, I honestly feel these perform 20% better than Callaways. Tonight, I practised with my Uncle (a 62y.o and very steady 14 handicap) He has just purchased a set of Nike Irons. After a dozen hits with my 'Babies', he is going to chop in his new clubs and going to get a set of Macs 565 tomorrow. He was immediately able to hit a 7 iron with mine, when a 6 or 5 was the Nike club choice. IF YOU ARE A GOOD PLAYER (6 TO 16 HANDICAP) AND LOOKING TO IMPROVE YOUR LENGTH AND QUALITY OF GOLF...BUY SOME M565s AS SOON AS POSSIBLE - HONESTLY, YOU WILL THANK ME FOR WRITING THIS REVIEW. Switched from Callaway X-18 Pro Series and am glad I did. These irons have a great balance, good looks, and very nice feel. Like the X-18 Pros they have minimal offset and strong lofts. They may be a half club longer. The 4.5 Regular shafts are perfect and the ball flight is ideal. These are game improvement irons but such appeal to all level of golfer except the blade playing scratch players. These are the best irons I have ever hit with this much help. Soft and buttery at impact, unlike all the other cavity backs I have hit, including the forged Titleist 690CB's I had for almost a year. Try these if you want to feel your golf shots without losing your game. Just purchased these clubs last week. Normally I don't buy irons of the rack but these happened to be the right specs, plus they come stock with royal precision rifle shafts. I was skeptical about these irons at first considering I have been using Nike Pro Combos for awhile. My first round with them has cast away all doubts. These clubs are long and extremely forgiving compared to my old combos. There is nothing like hitting a forged blade flush but the Mac's will sit in my bag for awhile, plus they are forged as well. There are no problems getting the bar in the air even when hitting it thin as I tend to do from time to time. From the looks of it I will probably be a club longer with these Mac's. They also generate a good amount of spin even from the rough and with the longer irons. I was spraying my tee shots yesterday and my iron game had to be sharp to compensate and I'd have to say that they past the test. I hit a 183 a little uphill 6 iron to a par 3 that hit the middle of the green pin high and didn't move more than a few inches from impact. These irons are definitely worth it so far.
