Another year gone by and the M565s are still in the bag. I sell golf clubs and these are the irons that are in my bag. A durable, forged clubs that hits straight, long and lets you work the ball.

The steel Rifle shafts are also about the best I have played. I honestly don't see any club replacing these. I have several sets, but doubt MacGregor or anyone else can do much better - legally

If you want forged irons that are forgiving these might be what you are looking for...the regular steel shafts are the best I have ever used in 40+ years of golfing.

I got a set of MacGregor M565 Iron Set (3 - 9, P, G, and S) with stiff graphite shaft about 4 months ago and played with it about 10 rounds. Previously I played with a Nike Sling Shot iron set (it is nice too). By comparison this M565 iron set is much better in feel and distance. Forgiveness is about the same. Long irons are easy to play and pretty consistant. Miss hits of mid or long irons do not lose much distance and still stick to the direction I swing toward. Gap wedge and sand wedge are good from fairway but may lack some touch from rough, or this may be my own fault. Quality and durability wise this set is excellent. If you are in stage of improving your game I highly recommend this set of irons.

I have been playing with these set for about a year now and just getting the hang of it, I have just been into golf for about a year and all I can say is this irons tend to grow with you, I am currently using a graphite shaft with R flex.Buy these set of clubs and you will not be dissapointed.

After a 10 year vacation from golf I started playing again last summer. I have improved my iron game such that I began using forged irons.

I just bought these Macgregor M565 V Foil irons and I have been very impressed by their distance and ball flight. I have added almost 20 yards to my length with each iron. Even miss hits fly straight and only a few yards shorter. The ball flight is high especially with the mid-irons which can be a problem when hitting into the wind.

Overall I am very pleased with them. They have replaced the Hogan Plus irons I was using.

I started the year playing a set of m565s with Rifle 4.5 regular shafts. I am getting older (48)and thought I should transition from stiff.

Unfortunately, my swing speed is still to fast for regular, and I tended to curve the ball to the left and pin high. If I really slowed down the swing, I was eventually able to get it under control - easy to do on the range - much harder on the course.

After 5-6 rounds hitting the m565s in Rifle 5.5, I got much more accuracy. After 5-6 rounds, I also started getting pain in my hands and elbow.

I decided to switch to a set of YS Technology stiff graphite shafts on another set of m565s

I once stated I would never hit graphite after a horrible experience 10 years ago. All I can say is hitting these things are like throwing darts. I do prefer to hit the matching gap wedge in steel and agree with others that getting the gap (50 degrees) is a must

I am actually stunned that graphite shafts can be this accurate. These shafts rate the equivalent of 6.1 stiff+; however, I am barely swinging (3/4 swing) and getting 185 with the 4 iron and 150 with a 7.

I know I could get 10 more yards by swinging harder, but I am focusing much more on accuracy. I'm sticking with a 3/4 swing and better ball striking. I have shot 39 twice with these on two occasions in the past week.

The pain in my hands and elbow are gone, and I am playing every day.

I have been playing MAC 565s for 2+ years, and they are the finest set of clubs I have played. They are comparable to my second favorite set of clubs (Maxfli A-10 Tour Limited).

I think the ratings speak for themselves 4.98 out of 5.0. These are possibly the best clubs ever made.

first off i would like to say that i found the review's on here quiet helpful.

so my review starts off as me coming off 9 months off of golf due to a bad back after fully recovering i found myself wanting new clubs. having been certified as a golf nut!

in my 15 years of playing ive have owned every major brand out there.
being an 8 handicap and having been as low as 4 im always looking for an edge.

i also am taking my pga pat in two months and im looking for a decent set to score with.

so without further ado here is my review of the macgregor 565 irons.

i bought these at golf galaxy for $199 brand new great price with the stock rifle shafts that they come with.

my first round of golf with these came without hitting them on the range or anything i took them to my local course.
and shot an 84 with them not bad for a guy with 9 months off i thought but be careful
it could be the placebo effect so common for golfers and new equipment.

so my next round i went out and shot a 78
so needless to say im happy with them.

as far as clubs go i have owned nicer looking but not an ugly club by any means.

the workability of these clubs is nice and they also have a level of forgivness built into them they a forged and they have a nice feel and click to them when hit on the screws.

my distances are maybe ten yards longer than normal 160~165 9 iron but that could be due to strong lofts havent checked yet!

overall having owned the best ping taylormade titliest cobra and callaway have to offer i am very pleased with macgregor who by the way is one of the oldest golf companies around they just dont market like the big boys but their technology is on par with them.

for anybody looking to improve their game as well as not break the bank!

go get some macgregors I will be posting more later about the other macgregor products i bought.

I purchased my first set several years ago. My scores have steadily dropped in the past few years. From the high 90s - mid 90s - low 90s - upper 80s to where I am today - low to mid 80s - with an an upper 70 round every 5-6 times out.

These are the best clubs I have ever played, and I seriously doubt I will ever switch. I own 5 sets.

The long irons are great, but I have dropped the 3&4 and use hogan hybrids. Unlike most other irons, the 3 and 4 are very "hittable".

I have been hitting the Rifle 4.5 shafts, and like them. I find that by swinging slower, I am a much better ball striker. I am actually taking a 3/4 swing and hitting the 7 iron 150 yards with a nice draw. If I go for too much, I tend to hook. Many fast swingers will find the Rifle 5.5 shaft a better choice.

Please note that like every other manufacturer, these irons have much stronger lofts. For example, the pitching wedge is 45 degrees (basically a nine iron). This leaves you with 11 degrees if your next club is a 56 degree sand wedge. I strongly recommend you pick up a matching gap wedge (50 degrees), and also recommend you get it in steel - even if your set is graphite. The steel shafted irons are a half inch shorter, and the steel makes a for a nice transition to other wedges.

You can get these on ebay at a pretty good price.

I remember when these irons first came out, I looked at them and thought, these are pretty nice. Liked the look and the feel of the weight in the head. Very well balanced.I wasn't in the market for new irons at the time, so I forgot about them for a few years.I have been playing T M firesoles for a while and they have been decent irons. After reading some of the reviews of the 565's I thought what the heck, let's give them a try.I bought a set on ebay for just over $100.00.Great deal, used clubs but like new condition. Well I hit them on the range for the first time and was impressed.I was hitting a nice little draw without much effort.A few little adjustments and a nice little fade. These clubs are easy to work left or right.Much easier to work than my firesoles.Since these are forged heads, don't expect them to be as forgiving as some of the game improvement irons out there today.If you mis hit them you will know it. MacGregor should have continued to make these irons.I would recommend them to any experienced golfer.Heading to Myrtle Beach to give them a real workout in 2 days. Then I will know if they are keepers or not.Right now they seem to be a pleasent surprise.

These clubs are about the best I have played. I shoot in the upper 70s to mid 80s, I would say these are the clubs I would recommend if you shoot under 90.

The only reason I recommend using if you shoot 90, is that I believe there are a few clubs with a little bigger sweet spot that would probably be better for beginning players. If you shoot 90+ and are committed to improving your game, then I believe these clubs will pay off down the road.

Like many other clubs, the lofts on these clubs are strong P wedge is 45 degrees. You will need to try and find a matching gap wedge (50 degrees) or buy another wedge close to that.
