If you've read many reviews of "blade" style clubs on this site, then you know there's endless talk about who is good enough to play them. As a 20 year veteran of playing cavity back, investment cast irons who only recently made the switch to blades, I can tell you that I didn't experience a huge difference between the two. I can also tell you, that that difference, though small, is very signficant.

The irony is that cavity back clubs such as Pings and Callaways are often referred to as "game improvement" clubs. The reality is that those clubs are designed to mask swing faults, and so they provide little incentive to hone one's stroke. Blades on the other hand, will let you know on no uncertain terms if you've hit a pure shot or if you've missed. If you want to get better, then this feedback is paramount.

That said, I think the Golfsmiths are as good as any blades out there. I had demoed Mizunos and Hogans on the range and on the course and have found that the Golfsmiths perform every bit as well and look virtually identical to the $700 Mizunos not the mention the $2,000 Titleist 681s.

I know you've read it a hundred times, but here it is again, there's really nothing like hitting a shot dead solid perfect with a blade. The ball absolutely rockets off the club face and has a piercing, soaring trajectory unlike that from cavity back clubs.

I got a lightly used set 3-LW on e-Bay for $167! so what's to lose? Give them a try, I don't think you'll be sorry.

I assembled Golfsmith Pro Forged blades with Royal Precision Rifle 6.5 shafts and Golf Pride Victory V-50 Full Cord grips. After being told I didn't have enough experience (playing for 2.5 years and shoot in low 80's) to hit a blade or swing a rifle 6.5 shaft, I went with my instincts and got the blade with rifle 6.5 shafts anyways. I hit my 5 iron 190 yds (200-215 yds when I try to rip it). These clubs are very accurate and have a huge sweet spot for blades. The rifle shafts take away a lot of the vibration on mishits. These clubs are like butter when you hit the sweet spot. These are the best clubs on the market for the money. You can work the ball easily and puts lots of spin on any type of ball. I will never go back to hitting a cast club after hitting with a forged club. These clubs hit better than Hogans and Mizunos. I will soon be hitting in the 70s.

Just plain awesome. These are every bit as nice as any blades you can buy... gorgeous workmanship, razor CNC-milled lettering, beautifully simple design. The set I got has Rifle 5.5s in them, and they're a great match for my swing. Pure and sweet, and amazingly enough, the easiest to hit long irons I've ever tried. I don't quite understand this since I'm basically a duffer, but it's true. Played my second round with them yesterday, and hit the best 3- and 4-iron shots of my life. Don't buy the hype... blades are great even if you DON'T have a single-digit handicap. Try one of these... you won't go back! The feeling of a pure shot hit with a nice blade like this is indescribable. You can build a test club for less than $40 with a high-end shaft. It's well worth it to experience these gems.

Customer Service

No complaints, but I haven't had to use customer service much. Shipping of orders has always been prompt and correct.

The short irons are like pure butter and they're so accurate. The long iron are not the easiest one to hit but when you get used to the small size and no offset of the blades you would be able to work the ball like pro.

What can I say. These clubs are beautiful and they play. Built 2-pw with TT S300's. Hit high or low and work em. Saved 600 bones over name brands.

The Finished product looks OUTSTANDING! With that said I advise everyone to be careful when selecting your shaft. I choose the Rifle Spinner, which is a heavier then standard shaft. In addition I added length to make up for the missing swing weight, however I didn't add enough.

The club feels heavy in the hand but when I swing it, I loose the feeling of the club head. I have spent time with the wedge at my clubs chipping range and find that club actually makes me swing easier (trying to feel what the head is doing) and thus makes me or accurate. Also, this club can really chew up some balls. I have great stopping action with this thing and it surprised me that the covers of my Professionals were getting chewed since I didn't feel like I was striking the ball very hard. However I got great results on the course with my new wedge and I would recommend it to others looking for that 40-50 yard point and shoot club. NOTE. Add length or extra weight to the club head if you choose this shaft combination.

I have been ordering from them both by phone and by web for over 5 years. I will say that I experiece longer hold times then every before, but I also get what I want. And they have always made things right with me when mistakes were made by either me or them. I say they are the best!

I kept the shafts from my other irons because they were fairly new. I wanted to get nice looking blade irons, but I didn't want to sacrafice an arm and a leg. So I decided to try these Golfsmith irons Scott Verplank uses on tour. i was surprised. When I took them out to the range to compare them with my buddy's Mizuno mp29's i was amazed at how similar they felt. They suit me perfectly but I need to get them swingweighted. These are good clubs and I recomend that you try them before you shell out a tonne of money for a set of Mizunos of Hogans.

I couldn't afford the 2 for my mp-33's so I built up one at golfsmith. They are real light. But after a little lead tape it is right on. Whata bargain. Feels much nicer than one would expect for a componet club. I would buy the entire set and play quite confidently with them.

Aesthetics: Beautiful finish, simple design, and classic-looking.

Feel: Medium-soft on center hits. Off-cener hits are noticeable. Want forgiveness, stay with your cavity-backs.

Distance: shorter than my previous set, but that might be because the shafts I had installed are too stiff for my swing (Royal Precisions 6.5).

Other: Great sticks, at a superb price!

Customer Service

Knowledgeable and friendly.

I've hit just about everything worth hitting lately and knew I wanted a forged club, but the price tags are too high. So I decided to give these a try. I'm sure glad I did. The only club I like as well or better is the Hogan Apex, but for half the money, I'm quite pleased with these. Mis-hits aren't as punishing as I expected and clean hits are outstanding. Still trying to establish my distances etc. with only 2 rounds under the belt, but so far they seem more consistent than my swing is.

Customer service was good and everything shipped on time.
