While on business trip about more than 10 yrs ago, I stopped by a PGA shop at Pitts airport and it had this set on sales.. I asked about return policy and they said it's 100% refundable. I took it home and taped the 5-iron to prevent damage. After a big bucket of balls, I learned that I could hit this club but I lost 10 yds compared to my King Cobra clone... Nevertheless, I packed them up and shipped them back to the PGA shop in Pitts for full refund. If they work for you then enjoy them, not for me

These clubs are a great secret for some. Just like a premium pre-certified car. What is engineered in will be there whenever you use them. They were definitely ahead of their time.

Grips for these clubs are not that hard to find. Just go to ebay.

I have a set and went back to them from Big Bertha 2004s. Bought a set of Big Bertha 2006s but they are still in the box because I like my Goldwins so much.

Out of business. Grips and shafts can be purchased on Ebay, though, both rubber and wrap types. I use both.

After using these clubs for a season I have to agree with most reviews on this site. What a shame these clubs arn't made any more!
I'd never heard of Goldwin until a friend offered me this set. Now I can't help but laugh every time I beat him. I'm sure he'd take them back in place of his new ping but there's now way I'm letting them go.

I got these clubs as hand-me-downs from my uncle. after two seasons with them i dont think that they are that great. it might be that i have the graphite shafts or that my swing might not be good but i don't hit them far at all.

I am a new golfer and was told by a friend that Goldwin made the best clubs you could buy used, and that it was one of the greatest secrets out there. Before buying, I read the reviews on this site and can say without a doubt that the clubs live up to all of the positive reviews. I have already beaten several others who have said they have golfed for 10-15 years. If a novice can do sub-50 turns in his first year of golfing, the equipment is definitely NOT a problem. I saw one review that totally confused me, but it must be an exception. I would compare these to a certified pre-owned luxury car...the engineering quality is built in, not based on the current fad.

Customer Service

I have found that replacement factory slip on and wrap grips are available every day on Ebay (search for "Goldwin", and that shafts are also available on request. You might have to look in the secondary (view other Ebay Stores items) area, but they are there in nearly all configurations and colors. It is important to keep lightweight grips on the clubs to keep the design pure, according to some course pros. Although out of business, these clubs still have a strong following from those who know true quality and over-the -top engineering.

I've read the reviews for these irons and most are on the mark (but I have to SERIOUSLY question a player who supposedly shoots in the 70's and can't ANY ironlet alone the Goldwins...).

I have played irons from several manufacturers (Ping, Callaway, Titleist, PowerBilt, Mizuno and Wilson) but NONE compare to the Goldwin's. This iron is extremely forgiving on mis-hits, but also allows for a fair amount of control. I have no problem working the ball right or left. While not providing as much feedback as a blade iron, the Goldwin are suprisingly workable.

A lot of critcism I've seen regarding the Goldwins has to do with the swingweight of the clubs and the higher trajectory. I'm a high ball hitter and have noticed no difference with any other club...I can also keep the ball low with the Goldwins if needed.

If you can find a set of the, pick 'em up! my guess is you'll soon have your Ping, Callaway, Titleist, PowerBilt, Mizuno or Wilson irons on eBay!

I borrowed an iron set from a friend, He had bought new clubs and I was looking for new ones. Since on a budget, (wife and 3 kids), I found a possible way to make a good deal. Tried them out on the range one time and took them out on the course once. Let me tell you, I shoot in the 70´s had some expectations on this club. I really wanted these to preform good enough so that I would have any reason to buy them from my friend. But I did´nt hit a single good iron shot for the whole round. It was 2005 pre season and maybe I shoul´nt blame it all on the clubs. But when I had a hard time hitting 100 yard wedges on the green, been given about 8 tries, I knew these clubs where not for me. And I wonder who should play these clubs, I would definitely not say the low handicapper. These are very special clubs. No wonder why they went out of business

Great irons. Forgiving. True spin and controllable on approach shots. I have hit a lot more greens with these clubs than my old set (some knock-offs?) However, around the green I have found it a bit harder to nuance chips with the 7-iron than, say, my Hogan Magnum 7. Nonetheless, I highly recommend them.

I'm a new golfer (playing for 7 months) with a lowest score of 116. Yes, that score includes penalties and lost balls. :) I inherited these irons from my father who bought them new sometime in the mid 90s. The quality of the clubs is high -- the heads feel very heavy and solid. The shafts have shown some spotting after ~10 years, but the milled aluminum pieces of these irons are still very solid. My first impression was that no way aluminum would be strong enough to be used in a golf club, but these clubs proved me wrong. I started out using Knight clubs that I bought from a friend for $50 (the whole set). There is an obvious difference between the AVDPs and the Knight starter clubs in terms of feel and response. These Goldwins definitely have a large sweet spot and feel tremendous when you hit it. Even though I am a new golfer, I can hit these irons purely sometimes while I build my swing. The 7 iron is a pretty consistent 165-170 yards when I hit it correctly. They're fairly easy to hit, especially for a beginner, and hold up well as long as you take care of them. One point of interest: the AVDP irons included a 10 iron in addition to the PW. Everyone I have shown this club to had never seen a "10-iron", but I feel Goldwin did this because their PW is lofted at 50 degrees when most PWs are a little flatter. In my opinion, the loft on the 10-iron is more like a standard PW from another clubmaker. You can find these clubs (sometimes brand new) on eBay, as well as the factory slip-on grips. I highly recommend the factory grips if you can find them since standard grips will not fit on these clubs -- the shafts are too large in diameter.

I just got done hitting these clubs for the first time so this review may be somewhat premature, but these irons are unbelievable. It took me about ten swings to start puring them. And the AVDP shafts (strong) are a winner as well. The only possible knock on these is that they were not easy to work right to left (draw), but this is tough for me anyway. If you need a great feeling club/shaft and some forgiveness, these are top notch.
