Cobra King Cobra SS Stainless Steel Forged Irons

Cobra King Cobra SS Stainless Steel Forged Irons

DESCRIPTION

Greater workability. Better feel. Forgiveness. Cobra''''s new forged irons promote all three thanks to an oversized cavity back and muscle arch behind the hitting zone. Great forged iron feel w/o compromising distance and forgiveness.

Fantastic irons! I have hit just about everything from the big name newer models to a number of older ones in various shafts and lofts/lengths. I grew up playing forged blades and have a hard time hitting with the larger sized "forgiving" cavity back style irons. However, I am getting back to the game after a 10 year absence, so my swing is not what it used to be. I have a set of Titleist 680's that are absolutely beautiful, but I am just not striking them as consistently as I would like to, and they are not as forgiving for me as I probably need. Anyways, after taking these out to the course and playing some I have to say that the Cobra SS Forged are wonderful. They are VERY accurate (a great deal of that is the shaft of course) and give above average distance. Where I really see a difference is in the forgiveness. I can honestly say that my mistakes were very playable and I have been able to make many "saves" regardless of thin hits or hits off center, etc. Distance was good on these mistakes also. There is a little cavity back to these that helps alot. Also, they are a little bigger than most forged blades out there, which can inspire some confidence. They have a good top line, and look great at set up. If you are interested in playing a more traditional looking club, while maintaining a good degree of forgiveness, give these a try. Also, if you are a bogey golfer and want to try to take it to the next level, a good set of forged clubs can help you groove a good swing. I would suggest you try these if you are shopping for a forged club. They are affordable and you can get them cheaper than I did off of Ebay. I simply had alot of credit at Roger Dunns to use. Don't be afraid to try a forged club/blade and don't make that decision based solely on your handicap. Give everything a try. The email they have listed for me is not valid anymore and I have not changed it yet, so if you would like to ask any questions, please feel free to email me at poormandan@hotmail.com. I would be happy to tell you more or answer any questions. Even though the 5-star rating might be over used, I can honestly say I believe these deserve it.

Customer Service

Roger Dunns is just like most golf shops, however, the RD Super Store in Santa Ana, CA and the Islands Driving Range center have a great selection and a real driving range to hit demos on, respectively. Plus, they have a 90 day exchange policy which I have used many times before I found these Cobras! Very nice to know I can bring them back within 90 days with no questions asked! (and not have to try to resell clubs that don't work myself)

Have played everything... these irons are without a doubt the best forged for the money. I have become a much better ball striker, than I thought possible. Scores are now creeping into the high 70's. Solid feel, decent distance... from 150 out they are pin-seekers!!!

I'mm pretty much a golf club junkie, so I try a quite a few clubs every year. I decided to get away from the blades I was playing and looked at all of the combo/forged cavity irons (Nike, Mizuno, TaylorMade, Titleist, V-foil). After demoing all of these clubs, some of them several times, I decided on the Cobra forged with X100 Sensicore shafts, and I could not be happier. I've gained yardage over my old blades, about 1 club more. I put away the 2-iron, because I can hit this 3-iron as far off the tee as any 2-iron I've ever tried. I'd say this club is designed for the good ball striker, but it does have some game improvement aspects for the mid-handicapper (fairly large cavity back and bounce to reduce fat shots). The best testament I can give is that I feel confident with every club in the set. We all have our favorite clubs, whether its the 7 or 5 iron, but with this set, I have confidence in whatever club I pull. I have been a 2-5 handicapper the past 4 years. I play once or twice a week, and after having these clubs for 2 months, I feel my handicap is headed down. My last 5 scores are 71,72,70,72 and 70 (yes, from the back tees). I say this not to say "wow, look at my scores", but just to show how much I think I have improved by playing these clubs. I feel much more confident in my swing, and while not all of this is the clubs, I do think that they have helped measurably. I'd rate these a 4 star for value. $799 is pretty high for any club, but when you look at its competition, these are in the same ball park. As everyone is finding out, you can get them for considerably less online. I give 'em a 5 for how they have improved my game.

I haven't played a round with these clubs yet, but I just them out these clubs hitting into a simulator. They were great. I drove most of my 3 iron shots solid. One went 245 yards straigt as an arrow. I also hit the Callaway X-16's. The Cobra's felt alot better for my swing. I am am going to buy these clubs asap and save $300 between the two clubs I tried.

These clubs are the best I've ever played. I hit the ball very high with every type of iron I've played and have always looked for clubs that I can hit a variety of shots with......Now I have them. They are so easy to hit high, low, left or right. I highly recommend these clubs to any single digit handicapper out there.

Over the past few years have played many of the brand name clubs. Recently, TM 320, Hogan Apex Plus, Mizuno MX 20/MP 30 Combos and for the past month Cleveland TA7 Tour. The Clevelands were good but I missed the forged feel. Have now played the Cobras for three rounds and about six hours at night on the course hitting various shots. These are the best clubs I have ever hit. Great feel and distance control. These clubs have a wonderful trajectory (slightly higher than usual for me) with a nice controlled draw. I don't work the ball so can not tell you in that regard. Shots on the sweet spot, which some describe as butter, to me feel like almost like nothing at all. The Clevelands were often hard; these are soft. The feedback from the sweet spot is that you know you've hit it because you don't feel anything. I say this in the positive sense. Never felt that before. Distance is better than average for me in the mid to long irons. This is the only set where I haven't put the PW and 3 iron in the garage and use my Cleveland wedge and Mizuno Fli Hi. Both the 3 iron and wedge in this set are great clubs. The aesthetics of a club are personal and can inspire confidence. These are (my opinion) the best looking clubs out there. Mid-sized, but not large, with a real nice top line. I love their look. Finally, I have used regular shafts for the past ten years and these have DG S300. This concerned me at first but they are not overly stiff shafts. Just a slightly higher swing speed than with regular shafts through the ball gets and keeps the ball on line. This is actually a good thing for me since with a 93 mph swing speed I was always just between regular and stiff. I would highly recommend these clubs to any golfer 12.0 or better. Get over the fact that no one else may be using them. They are too good not too use. Don't buy retail though (4 stars). Buy for half price on ebay (5 stars). I don't think you can beat this combination of forged feel, cavity back forgiveness and club aesthetics.

Customer Service

asked for a demo set and had them at my club within one week. Otherwise not used. Actually, they have a pretty poor web site which does not even give club loft information. The SS Forged are normally lofted; not strong lofted like many other clubs out there.

I had been playing callaway x-14 pro's for the past 3 years with no complaints, but was looking for a forged club as a change. I Hit the Hogan apex, MP-30, Mizuno Pro's, 690CB and took a couple of swings with the cobra ss forged. Truth be told I initial was leaning towards the MP-30s Long.... My buddy and I walked out on the range at our club after to confrim it (10 ball spread 195 - 205 with a 5 iron.) I was sold...then came the sticker shock. Went home thought about it and hit ebay while looking around I placed a modest bid on the set of cobras and Bingo it came through. Since then I have played 3 rounds and 2 buckets at the range with them. 80, 75, 78 to start the season. These things are GIR seekers. You need to have a groved swing but there is just enough feedback and forgivness to allow you to make that minor adjustment to knock down the pin a little shorter then the MP-30 but I play from 6500 yrds not 7000 so who cares. Looks like that 10 handi cap will soon become a 6. The only negative I could find was the V50 grips, I swiched them to a golf pride full cord.

Model Reviewed: Cobra SS Forged - DG S300

The Cobra Forged must be the greatest secert in the golf industry. Originally, one of the biggest reasons that I bought the cobra's was that nobody uses them and the looks - however when I demo them, against the TM 300, MP 30's, X-16, I found them much more forgiving than the TM 300 and MP 30's and provided superior feel to the X-16. Very easy to shape the flight path of the ball, yet the ability correct slighty off-centered shot, a contradiction in design. As one of my friend said "doesn't matter how good you are, you can always do with some foregiveness" Only complaint, they hit significantly shorter than other irons I've used. Could be due to the S300 shaft - normally would use a R300 or Rifle 5.0 - 5.5, however the S300 don't really feel that stiff at all. Anyways that's a pretty petty complaint - not really that significant. Don't understand why aren't more people using the Cobra's - just as well I'm still them only one at the club using them.

Butta, butta, butta, They feel like Butta! I had purchased the Cobras on the reccomendation of some of the Edwin Watts sales people. They were answering my question of "what is the sweetest hitting cavity forging in the shop?" Here are the facts: Distance control is excellent. Trajectory is penetrating, with a slight draw. They are suprisingly forgiving and accurate. I tested them side by side against Ping's new I3 Plus Blade and the Calloway X-16 Pro-set. The Cobra was the clear cut winner in every respect. Plus you get the added bonus of that buttery forged feel around the greens. They are a little pricey, but so are their only true competitors. For a true golf nut they are well worth the price. They are the best that I've hit and I've hit them all. I trusted the guys at Edwin Watts and if you're smart, You'll trust me.

Model Reviewed: Cobra SS Oversize Irons

I am a lefty and I recently I had a rare opportunity to try L/H 6 irons at a local range. I tried the Cobra SS Oversize, Callaway Big Bertha (Graphite shaft), Callaway Steel head, Titliest 822 OS, Taylor Made 200 and Mizuno Comp CT. I was really surprised to find I preferred the Cobra SS. All the clubs worked better than the Spalding Irons I have been using for the last 12 years. I am 5’8” and 170 pounds, I hit a driver at 100 mph and can carry a 3 iron 200 yards. For me the Cobra, Titleist and the Steelhead all hit the ball especially well. High and very long with forgiving off centre hits . The Cobra came out tops because it has such a wonderfully soft sweetspot. I think the Powerbar behind the club centre must help here. The Big Bertha’s by design should have the largest sweetspot but the ball left the middle of the clubface with a fair old clunk. Golf gives me tennis elbow and from time to time and I have to lay off the game for a while. These Cobra irons could really be the cure, anywhere near the middle of the club they are sweeter than honey! The Cobra’s measured about 1 degree stronger loft than the other irons and hit the ball furthest. I use Stiff shafts in my woods but prefer Regular shafts in my irons to reward a smoother swing and soften the impact. I bought the Cobra SS Oversize and broke 80 in the both the first 2 rounds. The whole set consistently progressive as I move through the irons. I am using a club less than normal with a three-quarter swing. This gives me more distance than before with added accuracy and control. And I am still amazed how softly the ball leaves the clubface. As a bonus the Cobra’s were the cheapest in the UK. Bargain!
