Cleveland HiBore Irons

Cleveland HiBore Irons

DESCRIPTION

The new Cleveland HiBore irons. 3-PW set with a large club face, and an even larger back. The clubs look a bit unusual at address, but really hit the ball well. They have a nice soft pop on contact and whether heel, toe, or sweetspot, shots eem to always go straight. I havent been able to get them out on the range or course since its been in the 30's lately here, but as far as feel goes they're great. If your in the market for a set of super game improvement clubs you owe it to yourself to check these out. They are very similar feeling to the Nike Slingshot OSS in my opinion.
Cant comment on distance as of yet, but Im more focused on getting a clean straight shot anyways. Its a great time to be in the market for a set of irons as a mid to high handicapper. SO MUCH to choose from.
These can be had for $599 in steel almost anywhere, some places a bit cheaper.

I bought a Walter Hagen Hybrid late last year and found myself using it for every shot except putts. It was a life saver. I have hit (or not) Callaways for nearly 10 yrs. and when I tested the Hi Bores at a local Golf Galaxy and later at a demo days event at a local shop and bought a set the following week. I finally snuck in 9 holes and I am simply amazed at the performance. Previously, my 3 iron was used exclusively for short, low punch shots from under tree or to fend off rabid racoons but I found myself grabbing the 3 iron at every opportunity. Basically, all you need to do is to swing the club and get the clubhead somewhere near the ball and the irons do the rest. The ball simply balsts off the club, straight as an arrow wioth no vibration. Like a "hot knife through butter". Simply amazing. If you buy these clubs and it doesn't improve your game, you should probably take up lacrosse.

Even after reading all of the positive reviews, for some reason, I was still a bit worried about hitting these clubs out of the deeper rough. Well, I got my chance, of course!

It's really quite an amazing feeling! Instead of the typical "blade" cutting through the long grass feeling you get from a traditional iron, these babies get down and sort of cause a "halo effect" in back of the ball and lifts it out cleanly. It's actually kind of strange! I had many other opportunities, too. They work great from all lies! It must be all that weight down low in the sole of the club.

There are so many great things about these clubs...but here's the absolute BEST:

This is the first set of clubs I've ever used (and I've been golfing for 36 years!) where I actually look forward to hitting my 3-iron and my 4-iron!! I know...it's *really* not a traditional "iron"...it's certainly more of a hybrid (rescue-type) club. But you gotta love ANY club that you can count on to go 185-yeards straight every time!!

No doubt, this was my best golf purchase, ever! GREAT clubs!

Customer Service

Purchased at Golfsmith. They took their time to explain things, let me hit them and make suggestions. Good people at Golfsmith!

Haven't had much to compare these clubs to (my previous irons were entry-level Spaldings) - but I am very happy with them. Be warned: these club's shaft lengths are longer than your standard irons by about 2 clubs. ie: my Hibore 9 iron is the same length as my Spalding 7 iron: Hence the extra distance on these clubs: longer shaft = higher club head speed. The longer shafts do, however, detract from the "easier to hit" sell. When connecting on the sweet spot (which is bigger than normal thanks to
hybrid sweetness), the club makes a pleasing "ping" sound, and ball travels far and accurately. Mis-hits are still rewarded with good distance. Found it very easy to draw as well. Added to the great performance, these irons are very easy on the eye. Was not a Cleveland fan before I bought these (was holding out for Tour Edge Iron-Woods - but local store had no stock) - but am very satisfied with the purchase.

These irons are very easy to hit. You can draw the ball a little. Ball flight is high. After a little practice and getting use to the look of the clubs, you will hit the longest and most accurate shots of your life. My iron play is the best ever. With these clubs, I am confident from 3 to PW. How many of us can say that ? The best part - these clubs are cheaper than most.

Customer Service

Due to my height and swing , I had to special order these clubs 3 degrees upright. It took Cleveland three weeks to get the clubs to me.

Very solid and well designed set of clubs. If you enjoy using hybrid clubs, you will love this set. I have played everything out there and this set is among the very best for mid-high handicappers. The clubs are not as soft as some but mistakes are rewarded in direction and distance. The clubs instill confidence. Give them a try.

Have played 2 rounds with my new hybore irons and find them to be approx. 10 to 15 yds. longer than my pings or hawkeyes. Strong offset takes some getting used to, due to pulling shots. Like the wide soles, clubs play quite a bit higher than my old clubs, and sit softly. Toe hits are still quite strong with minimal lost yardage.
