Cleveland CG2 Irons

Cleveland CG2 Irons

DESCRIPTION

These new irons were specifically designed for the avid golfer and are ideal for the low to mid-handicapper searching for a club with the forgiveness of a cavity-back and the workability of a blade. These perimeter-weighted irons, made from Carbon Metal Matrix (CMM), have a small cavity-back design which offers increased control along with added forgiveness. The design of the CG2’s combined with revolutionary low-density properties of CMM have helped engineers at Cleveland Golf create irons with both increased MOI for extra stability at impact as well as a lower and deeper CG which helps promote a higher ball flight. The density relieving spheres within CMM also help dramatically damp vibration making the CG2 irons one of the most forgiving and solid feeling irons.

I hit the TA7 Tours and really liked the feel and forgiveness but wanted a little more feedback on missed shots. I tried the CG2 irons and immediately knew this was the club for me. Distanced increased approx. 5 - 10 yds on long irons and consistency and feel was definitely better on approach shots. Easy to work the ball right or left, high or low and still forgiving on off center shots. Very smooth feel on impact and did not feel the vibration usually felt with blade like irons. You gotta hit these irons.

these irons are very solid, working the ball is easy with them. ball flight is tour like just might be the best iron Cleveland had made... price is a little high though I guess you pay for what you get.

I have been playing Cleveland TA5s for about 4 years and wanting to go to more of a 'players' type club. I demoed the TA7 Tour and the TA2 but wanted to wait until the Cg2 was released to make a decision. I hit the CG2 and liked it better than the TA7 Tour. Personally, I would rank these clubs: 1)CG2 2)TA7 Tour 3)TA2. I especially like the feel and the way this club looks at setup. It is much easier for me to setup this clubface square than it was with my TA5s. I am able to work the ball right and left and I am also able to hit a low ball flight. This is something I could not do with my TA5s. As for distance, I hit the CG2 about a half a club longer that the TA5 even though the CG2s are weaker lofted than the TA5s. (47*PW vs 46*PW) Overall, I think these are great clubs for a low-mid handicapper that is looking to work the ball and get better feel without completely giving up forgiveness.

I was waiting for these clubs to come out wanting a set that had forgiveness of a cavity back and the workability of a blade. I lost patience and went with the cut price of the TA2's which were being replaced by the CG2's. The agent said I could buy these now and If I liked the CG2's when they arrived he would trade them without a lost to me. I do not regret the choice I made. I went to hit the CG2's as soon as they arrived and found them to be disappointing. To start I didn’t like the way they looked at address. The feel even on solid hits was a disappointment as well. The TA2's are crisp the CG2's was like hitting a rock and I was not getting the distance I was getting with the TA2's. Overall, I found them to be hard to hit very similar to the CG1's and not much difference in the feel. I'm keeping the TA2's for awhile.

Blade-like but easy and forgiving to hit. This iron has knocked the X-18 Pro Series right out of the bag. Have played Cally and Ping irons for years and bought the CG2 on a whim but they will stay. The CMM material is very soft and much more forgiving than they look.
