Purchased a set of 4-PW in graphite shaft CW-75 reg flex after playing with 845 silver scots for 15 years. I was looking for something with a larger, more forgiving head and wanted the graphite to hopefully pick up some more clubhead speed. I have had these about a month now and love them, here is my review:

Look
----
Subjective but I love the look of these clubs especially the blue/black of the cavity. The notch weighting on the perimeter gives the club a confidence inspiring meaty look. The medium topline looks fine to me. To me they are the best looking irons out there.

Forgiveness
-----------
Definitely more forgiving than my 845's, wide soles, lots of offset and larger clubface all contribute to forgiveness. When I hit a shot fat, the club seems to compensate by bouncing off the grass instead of digging in. Off center hits also give better more favorable results.

Playability
-----------
I rarly mess with working the ball left or right but I can work it some with these clubs when I try to.

Distance
--------
These lofts are 2 to 3 degrees stronger than my 845's so it is very hard to compare. Honestly I am not sure there is any measurable distance increase (when you compare equal lofts) due to the clubs themselves...esp with the added forgiveness over the 845s.

Cons
----
The wider sole on the wedge took me some getting used to...I am not sure I like all the forgiveness in the short irons. Look at the Pro-Series version if you shoot at least in the 80s and want less offset with a narrower sole.

Overall
-------
Very happy with this set, love the look and feel of these clubs and will keep them for a long time.

My theory on golf is that with a good swing you can play any decent iron, the biggest decisions to make when choosing irons are:

1) Level of forgiveness you want (they make some ridiculous size clubs these days catering to the beginner

2) The look - does it inspire confidence?

Just went out with my New X-18 PRO Series.

All I can say is WOW!!! I was at least 1-2 clubs longer than normal, and it was my first round after some serious neck problems. I was only able to swing at about 70% all day and these clubs really flew with great trajectory. My old clubs I hit a 9-Iron about 125-130, but I was consistently hitting the X-18 9-Iron from 150 no problem.

My buddies were shocked how far I was hitting these clubs after being off for almost 6 months, and this being my first time to touch a club during this lay off.

They clubs are easy to hit, and their trajectory was great. I was not comfortable trying to hit draws or fades today, but straight shots were no problem. The only draw I did try to hit was successful, but one shot with a 5 Iron does not make for a successful study.

Look forward to great things to come. OH Yeah shot 82, and I was elated after such a long lay off.

Customer Service

Had a Callaway, bag that's stand broke. Callaway sent me a new bag at no charge.

It was refreshing to be reminded what customer service was all about.

Thanks,

Callawy

These clubs look and play great. Callaway has finally made a club that gives you the forgiveness of their namesake, but looks enough like a normal club to take out of your bag and not feel embarassed. I Had a set of X-14's and although they played fine, I always felt like I was "special" on the course because of the friggin' size of the heads! The X-18's are not that much larger than my old TA5's(also great clubs)but are noticably more forgiving.

I've only playd golf with one guy that could "work" the ball right or left so I won't pretend that hitting consistently straight is a less than desired feature. When I make the Tour then I will post about needing a club that fades or draws.

All in all, a great club at a reasonable price. I recommend this to anyone who likes to aim at the stick and go for it.

Ok, here we go. I am an admitted club junkie, I am currently seeing a therapist with I describe as "ebay-itis." I buy clubs that is my deal, it's what I do, it's what I love, it is always the arrow never the archer, but until now I refused to review irons because I just owned so many. But now here it is I will let you have a glimpse into the world of my admittedly sick mind.

The journey starts 6 years ago when I bought a set of x-14's playing to a handicap of 16 at the time, these irons revolutionized my game. Great swings produced high floating shots, which were great but the real joy of the clubs could be seen in where the misses landed(that is on the golf course not the parking lot) I am decent size at 6'2 and 210, so I hit the ball a farther than most just don't always know where its going.

The handicap dropped and the ego inflated with these irons, so like so many I figured I was ready to step it up. I got a set of ram tg-898 irons. Gorgeous set, and to be honest I played pretty decent with them. There was no get out of jail free card. So then I moved on to nike pro combos, actually outstanding irons again, but again bad swing days were my downfall. So then it was time to go back to someting forgiving so I got, x-14 pro's played with those for a summer, but then got the itch for a forged iron again. Mp-14s were next, I am a decent ball striker, and was committed to making the irons work. They worked but it was a painful process and the joy of shaping the odd ball exactly where I wanted it did not makeup for how much mental fatigue took place in a round.

So back to forgiveness, this time I thought ping i3 blades were the answer, they last two months. Then back to x-14 again and a commitment to take lessons and play better. Worked for a bit then the pesky ebay mosquito bit and back to x-14 pro's actually made it through a season with them but then came mp-32's and ping becu eye 2's, both of which in all honesty I did not give a fair shake to. That brings us to try out some hogans edge and edge plus which I made a hybrid set of(3-6 edge, and 7-pw edge plus, I told you I was nuts!!)

This brings us to today and finally the set I have bought brand new(first set ever that was brand new!!!) and will stick with the x-18 irons.

So finally here is the review, my current handicap is finally a single digit 9 after shooting mid to high 80's, again good ball striking and distance, but still plagued by the odd big number(also have a membership at a golf course built in 1899, so the trees there are not 70% air!) These irons are great, good distance great forgiveness and are much more appealing to the eye at setup. The topline is peared way down and so is the offset. They have a go straight first flight, which thankfully for me is quite boring and does not balloon(I unlike most hit the ball too high) Learn from my mistakes, allow your golf game to be very consistent give up on the great shots occassionally to hit the good shots all the time, these irons will allow you to do that, while allowing for some creativity. Let's be honest what great compliment can I give a set of irons than to have played with them for an entire season. Hope this rant helped in some way. I take golf as serious as a 9-5 worker can am committed to improving the swing, now if only I can get that mental side of the game down.

Just bought the X-18's steel shaft. Had these fitted at a local place here in Dallas. I played today for the first time and loved them. Very easy to hit, very forgiving clubs. I hit the ball about 10-20 yards more with the X-18's. I also bought the big bertha Hybird 4H 23 degree loft. What a club! 200-230 out no problem with this baby.

One thing I would also like to add. I looked at A LOT of clubs. I swung dam near everything from ping to Nike to TaylorMade's. The X-18's felt the best to me. After one round I know I made the correct choice!

Awesome! I player ping blades for the longest time but I'm getting older and I wanted alittle more forgiveness in a club. So I purchased the callaway x18 after trying other club brands. I was always a callaway hater! I hated the thicknessof the blade when I looked down the hossel. But these x18 clubs are incredible! In one of your reviews the gentlemen from Toronto wrote that he was having yardage problems with his irons, All I have to say is what kind of player are you! These clubs are awesome! I did make one improvement I changed the shafts to dynamic gold S300 and changed the grip other than that I have no complaints. Annika has no problem playing the X18's.

I went to the Callaway Performance Center in Toronto to be fitted for a set of Irons. They speced out a set of X18 with regular steel shafts. I have played 6 rounds with these clubs and now are ready to put them on Ebay to get rid of them. They are a full club shorter than my Titiest 822 irons. The X18 are not as easy to keep on line as the 822 irons are. In short it was a real expensive mistake to custom order clubs without trying them first. Launch monitors are not what they are cracked up to be, or the performance center clubs where much hotter than the ones I custom ordered. The lauch monitor had my 6 iron at 170 yards. The custom order 6 iron club will be lucky if it reaches 155 yards with the wind behind it. With the offset I find it almost impossible to good short iron shots. Mid irons are fine, but just short 10 to 15 yards. Long irons are crisp but still 7 to 12 yards shorter than the 822's.

One word - Amazing. I am recreational golfer and shoot in the low nineties. Was tired of the boring Slingshots, tried being adventurous and got Mizuno MP 32s, realized the error of my ways and got these irons. I have played once on the course, definite increase in distance (could be because of the manufacturer having a strong loft) but the feel of a well struck ball is pure gold.
Would highly reccommend.

I was never a fan of the Callaway iron series, as I thought that they were too bukly looking. A few members of my group switched over to Callaway irons (X-Tour's) last year, and they went through the custom fitting process at the Neshanic Valley, NJ Callaway center, and recommended at least trying them out after the experience. It was not a bum steer. Although my swing would not allow for the X-Tour or X-18 Pro Series clubs, which were more pleasing to the eye, I was fit with X-18's after a 90 minute session with the pro there, and my clubs came quickly. I have played multiple rounds so far this year, and my accuracy on off center hits as well as over-all distance & accuracy on well struck golf shots have improved dramatically. I am at least a 1/2 club to one club longer with these than I was with my old PING I/3's. My first two rounds this year were both low 80's affairs, which is 4-6 strokes better than my average round from last year.

These clubs are the real deal, and with the hybrid Heavenwood replacement options for the long irons you cannot go wrong either. I would recommend these clubs, but furthermore would recommend the Callaway fitting session if you are close to one of their centers which you can research on Callawaygolf.com.

Customer Service

After receiving the clubs I scratched one of them swinging it in my garage. I called Callaway and they took care of everything, including shipping, and again it was an issue that I caused by basically being stupid. Callaway is VERY customer focused.

The X-18s are a great set of forgiving, easy to swing irons which are great for the high handicapper. I purchased a set about four months ago and have been dialing them in. They feel smooth as butter on center hits, and misses still go a huge distance, I'm always amazed. In addition, they look beautiful in the bag. They are a bit heavy and large headed, so they're not for everyone. Still, if you're in the market for a new set of irons, make sure to give these a try.
