Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Irons

Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Irons

DESCRIPTION

Callaway Golf has weight distribution technology. The Tunite cradle allows 77% of the mass to be positioned around the extreme perimeter of the iron for ultra-high MOI and a low, deep CG; the TPU SenSert helps reduce vibration for great feel, plus eliminating the hollow sound and feel of an oversized cavity-back for a crisp, responsive sound; the lightweight 6-4 titanium face insert is 22% lighter than a comparable steel face allowing the weight to be distributed around the perimeter for faster ball speed.

Pros: easy to set up and balls goes high and far on good hits ... the face is a little smaller and the sole is a little thinner compared to the regular Big Bertha, but I actually found this to be less distracting during set-up; longer irons are even relatively easy to hit; crisp feel and sound on good hits, easy to work a draw. Cons: still considerable vibration on mis-hits, but that's not such a bad thing ... it forces you to learn to hit properly; not so easy to work a fade, but that is probably just me and how I swing. I did find that if I adjusted the ball position between my stance at set-up, I can work a fade better (even though this may not be the best way to accomplish the goal). Not sure if the titanium insert really makes a distance difference as opposed to a normal steel face. The weight does seem lighter than a regular iron, so this is beneficial for those who like a lighter swing weight.

Customer Service

Bought it from a golf pro shop through Ebay, so not really applicable

As a game improvement iron, the Fusions certainly deliver as promised for me. The clubheads feel much lighter than the competitive brands I tried, which I admit may just be my imagination. Regardless, I definitely feel that I am in more control of my swing with these irons, and confidence should count for something. Contact is a nice crisp feel and sound, with no hint of vibration on off-center hits. The sweet spot seems to be literally anywhere on face. For distance, the Fusions have added a club length to each iron, so I added a gap wedge (Titleist Vokey 52-degree) to compliment this set. I had planned to leave the 4-iron at home in favor of a 22-degree hybrid, but I’ve been hitting the four well enough to keep it in the bag and forego the hybrid. Overall, the long irons were long and straight with very good loft. The short irons have all performed well on approach, with significant loft and stopping power. If you prefer a low-loft iron, these are probably not your best solution. As far as shop-shaping, I can put a slight fade or draw on the irons, but don’t expect blade-like performance if this is important to you. Perhaps this will get easier for me by the end of summer as I get more familiar with the irons. The bottom line is that my game has improved after buying these irons. I am hitting more greens in regulation and playing with more confidence. If you are a mid-handicap player like me, these irons are definitely worth a look.

Customer Service

Haven't needed for this set, but I have had great experience with Callaway on other clubs.

It has been about four years since I last golfed. So my return to the game obvioulsy called for a set of new irons. My most recent irons were ping isi, nickel heads with stell shafts. Prior to them I played big berthas, taylormade, yonex and ping eye twos. Thus I commenced to read up on new irons in the marketplace. Several came up on my radar screen (taylormade racs, ping g2's and callaway fusion). Although there were some negative reviews about the callaway fussion irons (i.e. feel or lack thereof, vibration on missed shots as well distance control) I thought I would give them a try at the range. In short, they are in my bag now, complemented with two fusion fairway woods (5&3) and driver. To begin with, these irons are the best I have ever hit. No vibration or sting on missed shots. The steel nippon shafts couled with the fusion head do a terrific job reducing vibration to almost nothing while maintaining feel. Distance control is absolutly there for me. Good swings eqaul great shots while poor swings still allow me to make good to fair shots. Callaway has out done itself again with respect to R&D on these clubs. Now I still have a high tragectory on my ball flight, however, the flight of the ball is penetrating and controable. The fairway woods and driver are the best I've owned. So if you can afford them buy them. You will not be disappointed!

I am not one to write reviews. Have Callaway Fusion irons with True Temper TX -90 steel shafts. Simply the easiest to hit best feeling irons i've tried and believe me I've hit them all. Nice looking, not the clunky, big ugly irons Callaway is known for. The 3 iron hits high, straight an long. No exageration, off the tee I hit it 235-240 yards and it look like a 7 iron ball flight. These will be in the bag a long time. Worth the price, though i got a good deal on ebay.Highly recomment the Tx-90 shafts for a higher ball flight than my old Riflr 6.0. My beloved Ping Zing 2s are headed for the closet !!

Let me first say that I am not a fan of Callaway irons. I have never been able to get over the way the irons look when standing over them. I have tried them all but generally go back to Ping irons. That being said, I work PT at a large golf shop and can and do hit just about every club that comes out. When I first saw the fusion irons I liked the look at address. A departure from the standard Callaway iron. A more "traditional" appearance. I took both the firm graphite and "uniflex" Nippon steel shaft out and began what I thought would be a 5 minute "oh, they're ok but I'll stick with my Pings demo. To my amazement these irons are the real deal. Easy to line up. The ball flies off the face and the feel is surprisingly crisp. The ball flight is very consistent and very straight. But because of the somewhat less then normal Callaway offset very easy to work the ball. I also demoed the new X18 irons and did not like them nearly as much, really just a cosmetic change over the x16 in my opinion. The price is steep, no question but the performance is really amazing and consistent. The technology really does work in these irons. Unlike the Fusion driver which is crap. So as much as I hate to admit it I now have a set of fusion irons with the Nippon steel shafts and they will be there for at least 2005.

Customer Service

They have improved greatly over the last couple years, not quite Ping but getting there.

I have played Big Bertha irons and love them. I purchased the Fusion irons due to thinking that they would play even better than the last two sets of Callaway irons, wrong! I have switched back to my old Callaway Big Berthas. They are the worst feeling clubs that I have ever hit. They look different and feel different from the previous Callaway irons that I have owned. They really laid an egg with these irons. I wish I could sell them back.

These clubs are HOT! They are LONG ,straight and very forgiving. Best set of irons I've owned since my Cleveland TA7's. I have dropped 2 shots on my handicap since I purchased them in December. They are a little pricey but worth the sacrifice.
