Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Irons

Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Irons

DESCRIPTION

Callaway Golf has weight distribution technology. The Tunite cradle allows 77% of the mass to be positioned around the extreme perimeter of the iron for ultra-high MOI and a low, deep CG; the TPU SenSert helps reduce vibration for great feel, plus eliminating the hollow sound and feel of an oversized cavity-back for a crisp, responsive sound; the lightweight 6-4 titanium face insert is 22% lighter than a comparable steel face allowing the weight to be distributed around the perimeter for faster ball speed.

These irons are better than any iron I have ever played. I am a 5 handicap and these irons give me everything I need in all categories. The feel is incredible. When you hit them dead solid you get a terrific feeling and a terrific result. When you have a mis hit, you lose less in distance and direction with these irons than any other iron on the market. The difference is the technology in these irons is way more advanced than any iron on the market. I was playing the new rac lt which is a very good iron but not in the same league as the fusion. I always wanted to play with a small, players iron with more workability. Here's the deal. I have hit shots with these irons I can never imagine hitting with a smaller blade. The reason is simple, with a bigger sweetspot, you have more ability to work the ball than with a smaller blade where you are more apt to miss the sweetspot. They look a lot sleeker than a typical shovel too. Distance is long but when you get used to hit they are very consistent. Because of their unique head shape they are suitable for all golfers. I can say honestly that when I switched to these irons my scores dropped dramatically. I have had some real scoring break-throughs do in no small part to these irons. I have been playing with them for about six months.

I took a chance & bought these clubs even though many people told me they were terrible. I do not understand what that was all about. I have played about 8 rounds with them so far and they are awesome! Took about a year off from golf, and when I came back the rust showed. I could still break 90, but not as consistantly as I would have liked. Once I picked up the Fusions, that all changed. I have not had a round over 85 with them yet! I just shot an 80 in the wind, including two birdie putts from just 10 inches away. The first was 170 yds with a 7 iron and the last was 135 yds with a pitching wedge. It feels great to have clubs that I can fire at the flag with. These may not be fro everybody, as the feel seems a little muted, but who needs a lot of feedback when you look up and the shot is all over the flag? Ball flight is high, but not ballooning. These set-up very nicely, almost like a blade. You can work the ball gently in both directions, but the usual shot is pretty stright. My only real complaint is that the face seems hot when pitching and chipping with them. It can be difficult to accurately judge distances. These sticks are expensive, but you can't put a price on the huge grin I have on my face when hitting these!

Had the pleasure of playing a demo set for 2 rounds of 18. Very nice, but I hit my Cleveland TA7's just as good, though they have been with me for 2 years. Both have steel shafts. Overall I would have to say that the Calloways have a little bit better feel than the older Clevelands. Also maybe a little more forgiving. Nice. Will finish the season out with the Clevelands and maybe start looking on ebay over the winter. Hey, the Fusions are already listed there for about 500-600. Another 6 months and you will pick a great set up for 400 +/-. Played with a friend the other day who wanted to try the Fusions. I used his Mizuno T-ZOID Sure clubs. VERY nice. I was very happy with them. They are going on ebay now for under 200!!! A little too similar to my Clevelands though, both nice. Hey, if you are having a good day out there, any of the top irons can feel great!!!!

It's tough to describe how these clubs feel without using positive profanity. I grew up on blades, and then switched to cavity-backs in my teens, looking for that elusive distance ahead of time (but sacrificing skill development). The combination of power and control you get from the Fusions is truly awesome, and I've gone back to playing more like the golfer I was 20 years ago. I've gained a full club and the harder I swing, the better the results...which is tough to believe. Be sure about your shaft selection with these. I hit several different types over a 2-day period before deciding.

Golfmart in South San Fran did their job...but it's incredible that dropping $2,500 (incl TM Woods) in that town is nothing out of the ordinary...

I have always played oversized Irons. I had Titelist 822 OS prior to my buying these fusions. I thought that I could not play a smaller head iron. Boy was I wrong. These irons are everything they say and then some. I shot a 84 today, and alot had to do with these irons. I have never hit crisper irons. In fact, I have always hit weak slices with my 5 & 6 irons. The ball flies off of these irons like a ball hit to deep center. Accurate, high and long without a large effort. I do not swing hard. Even on hits on the toe, they still go. I am amased at these irons. Even my playing partner told me today that it is the best he has ever seen me play. This was my 7th time this year. I have played Pings, Taylor mades, Titilests, Callaways, etc. These are without a doubt the best irons I have ever played. They were worth every bit I paid for them. They are here to stay.

Never wrote a review before, but these things inspired me. I replaced a set of X-16 Pros with these, and they're great. Ball jumps off the face, lively feel, very forgiving, sound great. Mis-hits less punished than the X-16's, and sting less. Nevertheless, I actually feel that having the Big Bertha name attached to these clubs is doing them a disservice, as they aren't really a "hit 'em high and straight and that's it" iron. They're pretty workable, with a thin topline and not much offset. Short irons fly really high, and I've gained an iron throughout the set. Overall, the intrinsic gain of boosted confidence makes these clubs worth the high price.

Awesome golf clubs. I have used these for about 15 rounds now. They are improving my game dramatically. My scores are averaging about 8 - 10 strokes less per round. No kidding. There are other positive factors but the irons are the biggest reason. After moving on from my Big Berthas four years ago, I have tried alot of different iron sets. Until now I have not been able to find a set that I was completely happy with. I did like the Cleveland TA7s but not nearly as much as these Fusions. The reasons that I love the Fusions include: - Excellent feel. Feel like butter on well struck shots. The ball explodes off of the club face. Very powerful feeling. - Very forgiving. - They look great. Not the clunky look of Big Berthas. Definitely not "shovels". - I've gained about one club in distance. These clubs would be good for all handicap levels. They are expensive but are well worth the money. I have no doubt that they are the right clubs for me. The enjoyment that I have already gotten from these clubs has certainly been worth every penny of the cost!

Model Reviewed: Fusion Iron Set

I just upgraded to these from my previous set of X-16 Pros. Got a custom set with the Dynamic Gold Lite shafts. I had hit them in the store and on the range a few times and really liked the look and feel. Just played two rounds with them and I think they are amazing. I have always wanted a more traditional-looking club and never felt comfortable with these oversize heads that offer better forgiveness. What's the point if you can't put a good swing on the ball because it looks and feels like garbage? Unfortunately, my skills are good enough to play blades, so I never really found clubs that were a good fit. Th Fusions are perfect for me - they look and feel more traditional in terms of the shape, size and look at setup. Thy are forgiving and easy to hit. And they have amazing feel. I have been looking for irons like this and I really think the Fusions are a leap forward in iron design and technology. Once I get familiar with my distances, I have no doubt that these will improve my game. So far, the distances seem better than my previous set. The only downside is the high price, but I would recommend that anyone at least try these and see if you have the same experience as I did. I give them a 5 for value because I think an extra few hundred $$ is not much when you get clubs that you really like. I usually buy a new set of irons on Ebay every 12-18 months trying to find something that fits, but I think I'll be playing these for a long time.

Customer Service

Custom ordered my set and had them delivered from the Callaway factory quickly.

WOW! From the first time I hit one of my playing buddies fusion until now owning my own set and playing 10 rounds with them. I feel is crisp, but solid. If you line up to your target, that is where the ball is going. I like the arch which is higher than I was use to, but the ball lands soft. I have always been between 78-85 on my rounds, after the first round and getting use to them my last 9 rounds have all been between 76-79. I can not say enough good things about them, yes they are pricey, but well worth every dollar. I have put my pings up for sale and looking forward to a great golf season. I like the way they look at address and the fact you can work the ball both left to right, and right to left. My one concern coming from Pings is it does not take much for them to look used, with their chrome look they have.

I have never reviewed any product before but I feel compelled to write this as I made my purchase partly because of the mostly favorable review I read here. I took the big plunge with these clubs and have played 6 rounds with them now. They are magnificent. I'm a 12 handicap, I've played Tommy Armour 845 for about 13 years. Loved those clubs but thought I should see what newer technology has to offer. These clubs are solid, gorgeous looking over the ball, and are worth every nickel. The obvious advantage is the extra forgiveness. Shots that I can feel clearly off center still jump off of this club. No vibration or clunk, just a nice crisp click and the ball jumps. I highly recommend these clubs for mid level handicappers looking for a more forgiving club that will absolutely shave strokes off of your game.
