I took them for the first time this morning for the biggest outing of the year. Every Wednesday, me and three buddies play two man scrambles. In two and a half years we have never, ever....ever beat them. Today, with my new Berthas we won for the first time ever. Took a couple holes to get used to the big heads. After that it was full speed ahead, I hit shots today that had all of my buddies cracking up because they were so atypical for my game. I hit the 4-iron from 190 yards onto the green. Maybe that is no biggie for you but it was freaking huge for me! I was previously playing Mendrala Tour forged Fat Shafts, which were good clubs, but, the small head required a little more consistency in a swing than I currently possess. Highly recommend these clubs if you are looking for better ball flight and awesome forgiveness.

After using X-12's and X-14's over the last 8 years, these are the best that I have found in the Callaway line. The wedges do take a little getting used to because of the extra head weight, but the irons are forgiving and feel solid on every swing. If you are high 80's or low to mid 90's player, these irons could help you improve your game.

Very solid irons with a lot of forgiveness and length. I have the x-12's but i like these better. They seem to have a draw built into them so it took me awhile to get used to them. They are perfect if you like the looks of a heavy club head.

By far the best set of irons I have ever hit. They are very long and forgiving. The feel is just unreal when you hit the sweet spot. Took a few rounds to get use too. The long irons are a breeze to hit, the four iron is as easy to hit as a pitching wedge.

Id been playing my old set of Ram Lazer ZX clubs for over 10 yrs and decided it was time to get a new set. I had played with a friends set of X-12 pro's and used to use an old Big Bertha driver, so i have some familiarity with Callaway. These clubs are a breeze to hit. The solid, powerfull feel I get at impact is pure joy. On swings that dont hit the sweetspot I definitely receive feedback letting me know I missed the sweetspot, which is good because I can't always tell by the results. Anything appoaching a good swing will be rewarded-these hit it long and straight - for the most part. I have noticed a tendancy for the ball to draw a little more strongly than I would like. Dont get me wrong I am used to hitting much more severe hooks with my old clubs-but it is worth mentioning. These are great clubs- but not magic. I have yet to have a shot slice(I have managed a couple of controlled fades)- so if thats your problem these are for you. Also, these clubs hit the ball incredibly high- too high actually. If you frequently play in windy conditions this may be an issue. on the other hand if you have trouble getting the ball in the air prepare to fall in love. These are great around the green. The wide sole makes hitting chips and pitches seem much more accessible. Again I find the feel to be very good and the playability excellent. So in summary: These irons are great. They are long, accurate, have good feel, and will allow you to work the ball to a certain extent. The only negatives are the ball flight may be too high and the offset promotes a strong draw(if you have that tendancy at all). All in all if you are looking to improve your game and have more fun give these a try.

switched to these from my x14's i was playing. The graphite shafts just really help me get the ball up in the air better than the steel, just something due to the flex point i guess. Plus i love the soft feel. Overall the clubs are very forgiving and really do fly straight and high. The wide sole keeps my from hitting it fat and losing distance. I havent been playing that long but really dont understand the need to be able to "work" the ball. I hit it high and far and straight with the BB's and the ball stops quickly with decent spin. maybe i dont play challenging enough course with trees in the middle of the fairway i need to curve the ball around or hit it low and under, but to my game its consistant point and shoot and thats working really well for me. Overall nogt a cheap club but really does improve my game and i plan to have them for a while so in the long run i think they were a good investment.

Having played these irons for a few months now, I miss the X-12s I sold. These clubs are easy to hit, but the ball flight is anything but penetrating. Long irons are a breeze to hit, and with good height. I got more distance out of the X-12s. These clubs are VERY FORGIVING and would be a great club for higher handicappers. You have to get used to a different sound at contact with the ball. Contrary to what some reviewers say, I don't find working the ball hard at all with these clubs; however, I'm moving over to Titleist after hitting some in Branson MO this year. My Bertha's may be for sale in a couple of weeks.

Model Reviewed: 2002 Callaway Big Bertha Irons

Once the day came that my passion for the game and my understanding of the fundementals permitted it, I decided to shop for new sticks. That took me about 2 yrs. In a short amount of time, I new every golf store in my area and most of their employees by name. Read every review available, checked all magazines and asked just about anyone I knew (and some I didn't) I hit (instore), demo'd (range) and borrowed (round or 2) just about every club available. Cleveland, TM's, X-14, Hogan, knockoffs. All major manufacturers have quality products. There is not 1 club for everybody. But I will say that the new Berth's were perfect for me(Custom fitting helps - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!). To sum up my review, within 2 rounds I went from high 90's to high 80's. I can hit the 4 like the wedge. Used to have slight fade, now an ever-so-slight draw. Shots are high, straight, and stop where they land. On the days when the driver aint workin, 4 iron off the tee all day (205 yards). They say the clubs dont make the player, this is true. You must have basic fundamentals before clubs matter. Once you have a good idea what to do, clubs will matter. Callaway has developed such an advanced product that it deserves at least a couple swings from every golfer out there. If it took 10 strokes in 2 rounds from my 'home' course, what else is it? If looks are an issue, there is quite a bit of confidence when you look down and notice your hitting the ball with a small shovel. How can you miss? Another plus to the oversized, canyon back - if you dont have a ball retriever, flip over the 4 iron, it works great. By the way, for those who say you cant work the ball, I used not to even try for fear of losing another ball. Now that I'm confident they will go straight, I can draw or fade when I want, with control. If I can do it, anybody can with these. If you're looking for new sticks, at least give them a try. Dont worry about the looks or how your friends may laugh at the hockey sticks in your bag, the laughter will end when they pay you at the end of the round.

Customer Service

Havent had any problems. Custom fitting 2d up +1" only took 2 wks from factory. Not too bad!

Found a good deal and decided to buy with the intent of reselling to make some money. Of course, I had to take some swings with them once they arrived. The weather hasn't been warm enough this past week, until today. I pitted the Big Berthas against my Mizuno MX-20 forged. I really hit the Big Berthas well. I was surprised to find that I hit the pitching wedge (10 iron) better than my Mizuno pitching wedge. I thought I'd hit the long irons better, but I really hit nice, high, straight shots with the Bertha wedge. Callaways claims they are designed to avoid fat shots and I found that to be true. If I did hit a little fat, it seemed to be more forgiving than my fat shots with the Mizuno. I decided to pit them against each other on the chipping green. I really expected the forged Mizuno's to perform better with chips. The Berthas chipped just as well as the Mizunos on short chips (12-15 feet) and chipped better on longer chips of 25-35 feet. Again, the design was more forgiving on fat chips and was really noticeable on the longer chips. Because the soles are wide on the Berthas, I tried some touch chips with the clubhead opened up and hit those just fine. I think I found new irons for my bag by accident. I may be selling the MX-20's instead of the Berthas. I think the only turnoff for low handicappers would be the thick top line and wide sole... but once you get past that, the irons perform well. I actually think they're nicer looking than I originally thought. My MX-20's are a newer model, but they looked tired and cheap next to the nice finish of the Callaways. I will try them on the course before I make my final decision, but judging by my head-to-head trial on the range, I'm leaning towards to Berthas.

I play off a handicap of 8 and had just purchased a set of TM 300s. When my father visted me in Mallorca with his new set of Bertha irons. On our second round of golf he let me use his irons, these irons are great and the feed back is more than adequate. They are just so easy to hit and any body who says you cant play a fade or draw with these does not know how to hit one. Shot a 74 first round and a 73 second round. My dad was so impressed he left them with me. Nice Dad eh. If you are a single figure player Dont be put off by your mates taking the pee because you are using so called game improvers. Buy them, put them in your bag, You will soon silence them.
