I purchased these clubs after doing research on this and other web sites. I was sick of my Pings, lousy feel and inconsistent shots primarily due to the irregular shape of the Ping sole plate. When I was in high school and college, I played with some cheap blade irons and I could not remember hating to hit my irons like I was feeling with the Pings. A golf friend of mine playe with an old set of Hogan Apex blades and he has a great iron game. That inspired me to do a little research on this site focused on forged blades. I liked the shape of the Hogan Radial clubs, smooth consistenly shaped sole plate and the muscleback is located very low on the back of the club. I bought a set on Ebay for $50, the later '86 mocel with the Spalding Apex 4 shafts. I regripped them with Lamkin Crossline cord midsize and I love them. They hit much easier than the Pings because I tend to hit the sweet spot more than I miss it. The shots go straight and true, or I can shape the shots to get around trees, etc. which was impossible with the Pings. Since I purchased my first set, I purchased 2 more earlier (pre-'85) Radial sets, one with the Vector 3 shafts and one with the AMF Apex 3 shafts. I am experimenting to see what combination I like the best. One of the benefits of these clubs is that they are so cheap on Ebay that you can afford to experiment this way. These clubs have definitely taken strokes off my game, fewer off-line shots because the long irons go much ctraighter. I love to hit my 3 and 4 iron now, something that I dreaded with the Pings. By all means, try these clubs, I don't think you will regret it. Customer Service Excellent, when I have questions, the Hogan folks are quick to respond with answers. I received these clubs in 1992 and only played with them a couple times before picking up a large cavity back Ping Zing type set, since I only get to play a half dozen times a year and wanted an easier club to hit. Lately I got tired of the cavity back look and feel and noticed that forge clubs are making a comeback, so I started using the Hogan Radials again this year. What a great move! My iron shots haven't been this good in years. The clubs seem a little heavier than most, but I find the extra weight helps grove the swing and gives better confidence when hitting from heavier lies. The accuracy is pinpoint and I had my first hole-in-one (on the fly) this year - using a short iron, which in the past always had difficulty lining up. I just shot an 80 today, mainly because of my strong iron play. There is not a club on the market today that would get me to switch. Very nice set and looks great. Im only 20 years old. I have been playing for about 15 years, my first set was used Mizuno Cimarrons, which i loved and refused to give up. but after breaking a few clubs in the range. my Dad bought me a set of used radials from a local pro shop for about 150 bucks. In the two years Ive been away from the game, the second time out with these clubs i improved by 5 strokes. these clubs force you to swing right every single time. Its a great set for anyone who is a perfectionist. |

Hogan Radials with Apex 3 Shaft
I first tried learning how to golf with these clubs and I have to admit it was frustrating... they felt heavy, it had a dime sized sweet spot, and when you miss hit, it stung my hands. (Back then, I didn't realize the importance of the feeling in my hands when shaping shots around greens). Recently, after using light graphite cavityback clubs for a few years to perfect my swing, I decided to retry the hogans. Now when I miss hit the ball and the club stings my hands, I want to kiss it thank you, because you don't get that honest feedback with the new game improvement oversized graphite irons. Using the hogan radials improved my swing and my game by an average of 15 strokes because I now do not rely on my clubs to save me. These clubs force you to swing the way ben hogan did. I can't say the distance changed much. But the feeling and accuracy was just perfect... the ball, the clubhead, the shaft, grip, all connected with my hands... it all felt like one unit. I like how a few of the previous reviewers described the feeling as "butter". Everytime I swing, i look at the clubhead just to make sure it really isn't butter... because it sure feels smooth. For a club designed and manufactured in 1983-84... it really goes to show that advances in technology doesn't always produce the best clubs. When you hit that powerful sweetspot, it feels like magic. The thick muscleback design lets you get the short irons nice, high, and straight. I am able to shape draws, fades, and spin the ball like the pros with the E wedge and the original sureout sand wedge. Similar Products Used: This club gives you the same feeling as the Apex blades, and Armour 845's. But the Hogan Radials are a bit heavier. |

I picked up golf again, after my college baseball career came to an end. After playing with Armour 855's, I brought an old radial seven iron to the range. To my amazement I added about 15 yards, and ohh what a soft feel. For a steal I purchased an iron set on ebay, and my game has been steadily improving. Similar Products Used: Armour 855, Cleveland, |

These are truly fantastic clubs. I used to have Daiwa and Taylor Made Graphite irons with s-shafts in my bag. I picked up a set of Radials just for fun. The result: I went from shooting in the low 90s, to the mid 80s. They look great, feel great, and are a tremendous bargain if you can pick up a set below $100 in good shape. |

Recently started using these clubs after re- discovering them in my garage. Shot 74 the first time I re-tried them. Can't believe I have gone through so many sets of irons to finally prove to myself once again that there is no feel like forged. These clubs look and feel great. I can shape all kinds of shots and really get the ball up in the air. These clubs rock and are staying in the quiver. |

Funny this, I got hooked on golf and someone told me that I need my own golf-clubs, preferably some large over-sized easy to play beginner-thingies. And I stroll off on some add to buy my first set. "Yeah, these are beginners clubs" he said, and not knowing what I was doing I bought them for like $100, including a driver and a bag. 2 days later they all told me (smiling) that I bought really tough clubs to play, nearly blade-clubs, very unforgiving and I felt pretty dumb. Now - 1 year later - I realize what a catch this was! I have tried my friends over-sized hit'em-where-you-want clubs, but hey! No feel! No nothing. Now I play my 7 iron where my friend struggles with his 4. Now I ever so often don't even feel that I hit the ball - it just shoots off where I want it. I have clubs that makes my handicap (though still high) improve with every round and that I feel will take me well down before I ever get rid of them. More than that - they look good. Sorry - they look the best! Made in -84 I think, and nearly 20 years later I simply love them. When worn out, if I can't find another set, I'll hang'em om the wall! I'm missing a wedge, but the feel of this club lets me use the 9 iron from 80 to 120 meters with some accuracy, so who cares ;) |

Have played "game improvement" cast, cavity backs since began playing but with no improvement. Found this set (1-SW but no PW)for $100 with new Winn grips! Now I get actual feedback on mis-hits and my game has improved. Easiest blade I have ever used. Well worth trying. Well, OK, my scores say this is not the club for me, but I couldn''t resist a purchase for a 10 iron set on Ebay. These are, I think, the cast model, and they have lasted quite well. Took the short irons out onto a short par 3/4 course once they arrived. I am impressed. Distance wise seem comparable to my X12s. Not as tough to hit as one might imagine, though I haven''t tried the long irons yet. Thin shots get up very well. Flush shots feel as pure as anything. Good feel round the greens. My best golf bargain, ever. Now if I could only stop 3 putting every green no matter what distance I stick the ball. Look great in the bag. Value these are 6 stars. Don''t know why I ever spent big on golf equipment! Customer Service not required Similar Products Used: mizuno true blades, maxfli revolution, callaway x12. |
