I jusdt these clubs after playing some Canadian Goliath Nite Rider clubs. I have mixed feelings after 3 rounds. Although I have no problem getting the ball in the air, and I do find that they self correct on a slice really well, however, I find even with a slight miss-hit on the face and the distance suffers troumendously (albeit straight). I am having a little difficulty hitting the sweetspot but they do feel really nice on a swing. I guess it will take a little time to adjust. Either way, for 280.00 including the SW on Ebay I am willing to give them time. Similar Products Used: Goliath Nite Rider |

Hogan Apex plus
Prior to the Apex Plus I owned the Apex edge. I have tried the Callaway irons and the club head is too light. The Hogans have the feel of a forged and the forgivness of the cavity back. I disagree with other posts saying that the are hard to get off the ground, I have NEVER once in the 8 years of playing hogans had that problem. My only problem with the new set is that since switching my draw has increased a little, however, that is just adjustment to a new club. DONT BUY RETAIL!!! Ebay has great deals on sets.. |

Hogan Apex Edge (graphite)
I have played with Pings and Orlimar Trimetal irons for the past 2 years and have heard alot about the feel of forged clubs, so I tried hitting these at a range... GREAT feel and pretty forgiving for a forged head (actually the Edges are still cavity backs and the forgiveness shows!) I bought mine on eBay 2 months ago for a great price for graphite shafts (they were almost new clubs). Distances were a full clublength farther than the Orlimars and Pings... so much so that I'm still in the process of dialing in the distances. Dispersion patterns are excellent. No problems that earlier reviewers have described as far as getting the ball in the air, although I don't use the 3 iron (I've always used a 7 wood instead). Beautiful clubs! I have played about 6 rounds with these clubs and I am very happy with them. I was playing Ping Eye 2's but decided they were starting to feel a bit tired. I bought these almost new on ebay for $345 (an absolute steal!). I have the Apex #4 stiff shafts. I find the clubs to be very forgiving all the way through the set. They are a full 2 clubs longer than my Pings. Short irons fly very high and land soft. I have hit some awesome long iron shots with these clubs too. Very very forgiving. I don't need to work the ball, I just want a solid, soft feeling iron that hits straight. That is what you get with these clubs. I need to practice chipping with the PW. Not as easy as my Ping PW, but it does have 4* less loft, so I may just need to adjust. My only complaint is that I noticed some of the painted finish on the inside part of the cavity is already starting to chip off. Don't buy retail, go to ebay, lot's of new sets selling for around $400! Similar Products Used: Ping Eye 2 |

This is an update from my previous review in March 2002. I have been playing these irons now for over 3 months in all kind's of conditions at alot of differnt courses. They continue to be the best irons I have ever hit. The feeling and forgiveness are tremendous ! The Accuracy and distance control are very dependable. Of course the looks and craftmanship are second to none. I have shaved 3-4 strokes off my handicap and am now in single digits ..which was a goal of mine when I bought these irons. I like them so much I bought the Gap (F) and (S) sand wedge ! I can see people who have a steep down stroke and take a big divot having some problems with the camber, round leading edge and bounce on these irons like the last 2 posters. But if you take an average divot and are not so steep ..these clubs get the ball up ..no problem. These are a very playable and beautiful set of irons. Great deals on e-bay ! Make sure you get them custom fit..length and lie. Customer Service None needed ! I would have to agree with the previous fellow. This clubs suck. I played three rounds with them and that was enough to make me realize I had to sell them (I could not get the ball uo in the air). On the positive side, they are the most beautifull clubs I have ever seen. sorry Ben Hogan fans. Customer Service have not tried it. |

I would have to agree with the previous fellow. This clubs suck, I could not get a ball in the air. I played three rounds with them and scored 20 clubs more than I am used to. I rather play anything else, like a Mizuno MX-20. Customer Service not tried |

These are absolutely the most beautiful irons I have ever seen however, I couldn't hit them to save my life!! I have play Mizuno MP-19's for a couple of years and I have been reading all these great stories and reviews about Hogan Irons. The would not work for me. I couldn't get them up or when I did the sole was so thick that I had a hard time spinning the wedge at all. Maybe they will work for you but not for me. They may be forged but the feel like crap compared to ANY mizuno forged irons. I went to a new set of Mizuno MX-20's and they are doing great. Sorry Hogan fans but I'm not joining the crowd. Great irons! I wasn't in the market to replace my Callaway X-12's, but I won these in a raffle. My son now has the X-12's, and I'm delighted with the Apex Edges. Thet are a bit longer, and a lot straighter, than the X-12's. The Apex steel shaft is fine. I'm hitting more greens, the true test of irons. These clubs feels absolutely remarkable. Definitely one of the most forgiving clubs around. The solid feel after each shot gives better confidence and consistency for distance too. I would recommend it even to high handicappers even, but not as a first set coz you don't want to mess up the great looks of these clubs! |
